I’ve been using the Epson EcoTank ET-2850 for a while now and I’m very satisfied with it. The setup was easy, and the ink tank system is a huge advantage compared to cartridge printers. The ink lasts a long time and saves a lot of money. Print quality is very good for documents and color prints, and the automatic double-sided printing is very convenient. Wireless printing works perfectly with my phone and laptop. It’s not the fastest printer, but for home or small office use it’s more than enough. The printer arrived in a renewed box, with all the proper tape on all of the pieces. Ink tanks were clean. I got this one because it has a one-year return, and it was 60 bucks cheaper. This is everything I have needed in a printer. I needed automatic 2 sided printing. Check. I needed good connectivity across multiple platforms ( windows 7, 11, xp, and linux, and Iphone, android.) Check. I wanted a permanent print head, but most of all, I wanted to be able to use refillable ink. Check. The bottles that come with it seem large, but so are the individual 4 tanks. I've had some printers that were 4 or 5 colors. Three has been easier, and the picture quality is just fine. When it comes time to refill the ink tanks, I'll simply pour my ink into these bottles, and refill. Screw the "genuine" epson ink. Do you really think that there is a difference? I don't . I have been drilling and refilling ink cartridges for 30 years, and have used the same ink in 3 different brands with no problem. I love that you can do that with this printer...even easier than buying special cartridges to fool the system, or bypassing it in hidden settings on the printer (by law they have to have a setting to shut off the proprietary ink cartridges. Set-up was pretty easy. I discarded the instructions. I had great first time luck filling the tanks, letting it charge the ink, and using the keypad on the front of the printer to connect it to my network first. Then, when I downloaded the software for my computer(s), The software found it easily. This way, was better than the way the software tells you to do it. Same with the phone app. Put the printer on your network first...then let everything find it. The epson app for my android is the first one that actually works with one click to print. Other reviewers have said that this thing paper jams a lot. So far, so good for me. I did have one jam so far. I use heavier weight paper, and I think one corner was bent as I was putting paper in it. This printer will hold a lot (150?) of paper. That's good, but if this thing starts jamming, it'll go back. For years, I have been using HP all-in-one printers with disposable cartridges. This one is incredible. I printed two double-sided, full-sized, color work and activity books (A4-sized pages) for my 8-year-old son, and the ink level is around 3/4. If you keep the heads clean, this printer will serve you well. I read some reviews about the low quality of prints with this printer. Well, my experience was just the opposite. So, their experience does not represent the whole; they should be outliers. These people might need to learn more about the printer's preferences for the basic printing rules. Printers print according to what you feed them with. The higher your raw and paper quality, the better the print you'll get. And remember to check the preferences for better print quality as well. One other complaint I read was about the wifi connection. It does not reflect the reality as well. The wifi card on the printer does not lose connection at all. The units these people have might be faulty. That does not mean these devices lose connection. And if you have a stable 2.4GHZ internet wifi router. This printer will keep its connectivity, unlike multiple HP products that I had previously. I had to turn wifi off and on every time I had to print something. The best part is that even the whole set of inks (black and two colors) is cheaper than the entire set of HP cartridges(Black-color). On the other hand, here are three things that are annoying about this printer: 1) the paper feed is from the top. 2) the LCD screen is too small. 3) generating a printing job outside the local network is crappy and glitchy. They need to fire the whole department of software developers in charge of this part of the software solutions. Here what I wish I had known: 1. You have to provide your EXACT location in order to use blue tooth. They claim that it will never be used - ever. We don't believe you. You can use without blue tooth, but if you are like us and don't have enough ports available, then you have to unplug something else in order to use the printer. 2. Printer often will not be recognized by laptop, even though any other printer we hook-up has no issues 3. In the middle of printing a return label for Amazon, we received an error code in the middle of the print to "remember to check your ink levels often" - my ink containers are all completely full - as we have used this printer so infrequently. Then it finally spits out the 1/2 printed page with a HUGE glob of ink on the top of the paper. It has had excess ink on some of the print jobs in the past, but nothing like this. 4. It is not worth your $$$, time, or effort Very disappointed, as this was the first printer I ever used at IBM over 30 years ago (IBM used to OEM Epson), and they were very reliable for many, many years. ... show more

So, I’m not sure if my experience was a byproduct of the Amazon renewed program or a general Epson printer issue, but after going through the set up routine, the printer would not initialize and gave an error. Calls to both, Epson and Amazon did not yield a solution. The error code indicated that something was stuck in the printer. This happened after it had already been filled with ink and was proceeding to the print head priming step in the setup. Following the onscreen troubleshooting prompts did not resolve the issue. Epson phone support was not able to resolve the problem. Amazon was not able to exchange the item because there was no more renewed inventory. With no other option, but a return for a refund I tried one last time to see if I could figure out why the printer was throwing an error. I manually turned the gears inside the printer until the printhead lock moved to the unlocked position and then slid the print head left and right in its track, then again, turned the gears until the printhead locked. After doing this I restarted the setup and this time the error cleared and the setup could be completed. However, I then had problems with the installation of the software on two PCs. I was able to resolve this each time by uninstalling all Epson software, then restarting the computer, then suspending my firewall and then doing a clean installation of the drivers. All Apple devices were able to find and natively print to the printer without any software installs. The printer itself seems fine. Printing is sharp and fast, but photos seem to be a little washed out. It could be that I could improve upon this through print settings, but haven’t tried yet since 99.9% of my printing is text and the images are good enough for my needs. Love this printer. Couldn't be happier with it's easy of setup, ease of use and the ecotank system is amazing after using cartridges for years. So I'll start with setup, I wasn't happy to see that the basic setup uses Epson's fluky and antiquated feeling app, but at least with this setup, everything worked out alright. It takes about 15 minutes or so total to get all the tape off, plug it in, fill the inks and get the printer connected. All of which was nice. Speaking of filling the tanks, the ecotank system is amazing. This printer has an enlarged black tank and so comes with a much larger black fill cartridge. It says it's good for over a thousand pages, which is fine with me, but filling was so easy. Each of the refill tanks has a special nozzle so it will only work on the correct color and you can see what level the tank is at with just a quick glance. You can't overfill the tanks because they shut off when full, and ther's also no chance of leakage since the refill tanks won't dispense unless slotted all the way down onto the refill nozzle. Where has this system been my whole life? I looked up costs for refills and they seem reasonable, especially when compared to all the proprietary cartridges most manufacturers use. Five stars just for the ecotank system alone. Connecting to my home wifi was a bit wonky with the app but it worked on the second try, and thankfully this printer is AirPrint compatible so I was able to print straight from my iPhone and iPad without any issues. A quick check of my laptop and desktop and they both detected this printer without issue and soon I was printing off some needed tax documents. Print clarity was fine, the blacks in particular are nice and dark which is most of what I need anyway. After printing about 20 pages I checked the tank and couldn't see that the ink levels had dropped that much if at all, so I'm pretty excited about how useful this printer will be in the future. First I have to say I was worried about buying a refurbished machine after reading reviews. I am big on reviews and if something doesn't have high reviews I won't even bother. Well I am so glad I didn't listen!! This is perfect. Connecting to my wireless router was a piece of cake. I also have to mention I have always had HP printers and connectivity has always been an issue. I was so surprised on how easy it was to setup and the fact every time I go to print I dont have to turn the printer on and off because I lost connection. So far the ink doesn't seem to have moved even though I have used it a lot. I would have been buying new cartridges for my HP by now. It has the same features as other machines. Plus I find the app a lot easier to use than HPs. The size is perfect. It fits o. The desk fine and takes up the same amount of room all the other ones I have had.
