I only have a need to print anything just a couple/few times per month. My old HP printer after 8 years would paper jam every time I used it....still excellent print quality, and it only required two ink cartridges....but it also required an open source scanner program since the old HP Vista software was no longer supported with Win10 or HP. All of the under $150 HP printers had too many one/two star reviews for a multitude of problems...same for Canon, and did not offer any on-printer control panel LCD or LED screens to easily view, and use the different printer functions. Most of these functions are now preformed wireless via cell phone apps, and I only need a USB connection to my Lenovo desktop computer...obviously considered old school printer use, and connectivity now. This Epson XP-4105 is not the latest Epson, and I'm not a 4 ink cartridge fan, and I do notice that the overall print quality sometimes doesn't match up to HP, but again my printer needs are not critical, and for a backup computer in the basement I have a10 year old Epson that I can't remember how old the ink cartridges are, connected to a Raspberry Pi 4B computer that the Linux based operating system recognized as soon as I plugged the old Epson into the Raspberry USB port, and it prints from Google Chrome web sites, or open source LibreOffice program beautifully. Both the old Epson and this new Epson XP-4105 don't seem to use excessive amounts of ink...again that's probably more due to the fact that I don't print much...I have had no paper jams with either...neither would be considered "book shelf" compact size, but only need about one square foot of desk space, both are reliable, and well made....wouldn't it be great if the same could be said of HP occasional use printers. As I type this review looking at this Epson with the green ring around it's power button changing from bright to dim slowly without distraction in standby mode, I know that I made a good purchase, and it will work the next time I click the print icon....maybe next month. BTW...I ordered this printer on a Saturday night, the seller had a FedEx ship notification by Sunday afternoon, and it was delivered standard Amazon shipping on Thursday.     • I like the features and design that are similar to those of my last Epson printer.

It prints, scans, and copies very well. The inks are expensive but, they do not last very long under normal use. I would not recommend using generic ink cartridges because, the printer will eventually reject them after it detects their installation. If you use this type and brand of printer for extended periods, the black ink jets will dry out and clog rendering the printer unusable therefore, I recommend frequent use or maintenance to prevent ink jet nozzles from dry clogging. This is what happened to my last Epson printer after four years of use when I let it set idle for several weeks. It ended up as electronic recycle waste because, that dry clogging issue cannot be repaired. Update: My previous printer was damaged when a seismic event caused a shelf with wall anchors to fall on top of it and break the scanner glass so, I purchased a replacement printer. My new XP-4105 replacement printer works as well as my original XP-4100 printer used to. I was forced to use heavier duty wall anchors because the wall studs in my apartment are made of a thick steel alloy that my drill bits cannot penetrate. Everything about this is easy and a good value. Word of warning though, you should print 1-2 sheets per week, at least, unless you want the ink Jets to fry out and clog up, because then you just have to throw it away. Repair is more expensive than a new device.

    • Did a recommended firmware upgrade and now it won't read any of my ink cartridges.

I did a "recommended" firmware upgrade and now the piece of junk won't read any of the ink cartridges. The thing is less than a year old, and of course is out of their 30 second warranty window so there's no hope returning it - and it's the first time I've had to replace any ink cartridges - and now the thing is a useless brick - DON'T BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK!!!!! Quite frankly, every Epson printer I've ever purchased has died way too soon after minimal use and left me stuck with scores of expensive ink cartridges that nobody else wants and can't be returned. Epson printers tend to screw over the consumer pretty frequently and this piece of junk sure screwed me over. I'm surprised they haven't just marketed their printers as "disposable" printers since they crap out so easily and can't be reasonably repaired - they break and you throw them away - and they break real easy and real soon with minimal and even gentle use. I won't buy any more Epson products - been burned too often by this company selling cheaply made, throw-away, over-priced garbage designed to fail right after you buy refills that won't be recognized....they're probably laughing about that. ... show more

I was going to skip this review. But I received an email twice asking for my opinion. I’ve had the printer 2 weeks. I printed 8 (not) full pages and just the front. Already have to ordered ink. I was sent the wrong ink, I didn’t order. And have to hassle with returning that. And wait for the right ink. Refund….. blah blah blah. Printer works fine. I haven’t had it long enough to give 5 stars. I didn’t want to spend money on a computer that cost a lot. Including the ink. I have spent money for printers with all the bells and whistles before. Why ? Stop the insanity. Not much ink comes with the printer. And the ink is expensive. Where is the reality show, panning for ink. Honestly, I could just buy a new printer every time I run out of ink. Add a written review. You could mention print quality, tech support, or touch screen. If any of these companies cared about review’s or what the customer is saying. The cost of ink is always the issue. With every brand I looked at. ... show more
