  • Writing this with a bloody finger
Size: 26 inch Color: Blue Tenor Acoustic-Electric
Sadly, I am sending this ukulele back. As with many Amazon purchases, there is both good and bad. You might consider buying the version listed as shipped and sold by Enya rather than the one sold by Enya and shipped by Amazon if the prices are the same. The first negative impression was a common issue with Amazon shipping. The ukulele box was dropped into a larger shipping box with no packing material of any kind. That meant it was travelling in a way that would allow it to bounce around with every shift. Additionally, the inner box had holes and damage to both the front and back. I suspect Enya might use more care with their products when they are the shipper, as is evidenced by what is inside their package. The ukulele was undamaged since it was inside a thin foam bag and within the decent quality gig bag. The accessory package was in a vinyl bag that kept everything together. I took out the uke and tuned it up - it was travelling tuned down a couple steps to limit stresses in transit. The appearance was just about as expected, though it didn't have any of the glow they manage to produce in the pictures they put up with the product listing. It was a true darker blue color and the wood showed no signs of any flaw that would concern me. tapping the body was quite resonant all around and the overall tone of the instrument was very pleasant. The shape of the neck was very comfortable compared to my entry level tenor. The slight radius and the couple millimeters of extra width both worked better for me. The only thing I found questionable in terms of appearance was the choice to use a gold strap button at the neck and a black strap button/jack at the bottom of the body. Pick a color and use it. Combine that with the pink buttons on the gold tone tuners and there is a lack of consistency here, but nothing that would have me looking to replace parts or buy a different brand or model, especially at this price/value point. There were two functional problems with the instrument. One was a buzz that was very evident when playing the open C string. It was there otherwise, but not as prevalent. I got some help in the form of another pair of ears and we tracked it down to some noise in the tuning pegs. I snugged the screws holding them to the body as well as those holding the buttons to the pegs and it went away. Permanent fix? Hard to know. The second problem is why my finger is bleeding and the instrument is going back. The frets were very poorly dressed. You can feel the sharp edges if you run your finger down the side of the neck. When playing guitar or bass, this is mildly annoying, but not a complete killer for me. It didn't bother my fretting hand enough to matter. Somehow, though, my strumming has my fingers regularly catching those sharp fret edges. After I tuned up the uke, I played four or five songs, and the mild annoyance grew to the level of pain and blood over time. I could pay someone to fix this, but I shouldn't have to and that sort of effort defeats the purpose of buying what should be a great beginner to intermediate level instrument at an affordable price. I did not test the electronics to see how it sounded plugged in. I did note that the sound hole is tight relative to the space allowed to get to the controls. No chance to make any adjustment while playing. It's tighter than it looked in the pictures. That said, this has to be better than no controls at all, and the appearance of the instrument is not marred by an external hunk of plastic and knobs. As mentioned, the top was pretty resonant when tapped, so the internal position of the control unit doesn't seem to harm the acoustic tone in a significant way. For my purposes, I'd probably prefer the external controls, all things being equal. I took a quick look at the accessories. It seemed to me as if this ukulele may have been previously sold and returned since the tuner box had an unwrapped battery and a small black screw bouncing around in it. The tuner worked, so not the biggest issue. I hadn't noticed that they were including a cheap cable with the electric version, but it wasn't something I would use. The finger shaker is an interesting idea, but I didn't give it a try to see how it would mate with playing. Didn't open the rest of the stuff once I decided I couldn't keep the instrument, but I expect it all to be acceptable and basic. Given the choice between the accessory package of the MS vs the upgraded appearance of the MAD version, I chose the MS and would probably do so again. I'm on the fence about trying to order another one and hope for a better result. We both found the tone of this uke to be very pleasant and the playability of the neck was a step up from the Paisen we've had in the house for the past year. I was hoping to get the functionality of the EUT-M6 or EUT-MAD without all the cosmetic touches for a better price. Hopefully this one just missed a step in QA and I'll get a better one when I try again. Without the fret issue and after the buzz is cured, this is a four star instrument and a five star value. It could have a slightly warmer tone, but I bet that's something that an experienced uke player could solve with different strings. Edit: ordered a second copy of this, but it was sadly lost in transit. I still believe this will be an excellent product and will see if I can source another one to give it a chance. Maybe I'll order one in natural. ... show more

  • Inexpensive but not cheap in appearance or function.
Size: 26 inch Color: Natural Tenor
Very nice quality fit and finish, much better than I expected from a $100 uke. Action was med-high so I took it to my local mom & pop music and guitar repair shop to get adjusted; $20 later action was perfect. All they needed to do was sand down the saddle a bit on their bench-top disk sander, took about four minutes. They checked intonation (no issues), fret alignment levels (no issues), Fingerboard (oiled it a bit), neck alignment (no issues), and tuners (tightened a bit more). If you are a NOOB like me, highly recommend you spend the $ to have the pros check it out. I'm very happy with tone and loudness of my Enya EUT-MS. It is plenty loud with the fluorocarbon strings that came uninstalled with the beginner kit. I found the titanium strings installed by the factory a bit thick for my liking. The fluorocarbons are a bit softer on my rookie finger tips. The titanium strings are noticeably louder IMO. The kit, to my surprise, included a battery for the ET-03 Enya Tuner. It works great. The strap is basic and functional. Have not used the capo, so cannot give an opinion. Polishing cloth is a nice addition and bigger than I anticipated, which is a bonus. The finger shaker seems stupid to me, but YMMV. I have no use for the picks at this point. The hex wrench (aka Allen wrench) is nice to have stored in the included zipper pouch, just in case. The gig bag is much better than I expected. It appears well made, fits tightly and has a medium thickness padding that will protect the uke from light bumps and scratching. The one negative i have found is the head seems a bit heavy to my liking. For me the heavy head throws the balance off resulting in compromised playability. Overall I am delighted with my Enya EUT-MS. I cannot understand how they can manufacture all that came in the kit, with such good quality, and ship it to me in 3 days without losing money at the price I paid. That said, understand that the Enya EUT-MS is an entry level student instrument and does not compare in tone, loudness, or play ability to a $2,000+ professional instrument. ... show more

  • Nice Tenor Uke
Size: 26 inch Color: Blue tenor Acoustic
This is comparable to ukes costing twice as much, and the included accessories are a plus. Although this is somewhat promoted as a beginner's model (and it would be a good one), I've played uke for a number of years, and I find nothing lacking. There was an issue with the gig bag. I notified the seller, and in a couple of days I had a tracking number, and in another few days, a proper replacement arrived. Sometimes things happen; a seller proves their worth when they "make it right" on such occasions. A+ for both the seller and the product! ... show more
