I put in a lot of time and research reviewing electric grills and decided on the Elite Gourmet EMG-980B Smokeless Electric Tabletop Grill - and so glad I did! I want that grill look and taste that you don't get from the frying pan or stove and reviewed grills from $30 to $200+. Price wasn't as much of an issue but I definitely wanted the value. Why pay too much when it seems an electric grill basically works the same way...it heats up on a grill plate. But don't get me wrong...this is my food we are talking about and I'm willing to pay a higher price for a higher grade of quality. I came across the Elite Gourmet 14-inch smokeless electric grill (EMG-980B) and compared to numerous brands and models - and this is why I chose Elite Gourmet: The Price: The price wasn't my biggest consideration but even when reviewing high-end grills at much higher costs, the EMG-980B still came out on top. Quite honestly, you cannot beat this unbelievable value. Electric Power/Watts/Temperature: This model works at 1300 watts and 450 degrees where the vast majority seem to be at 1000 watts. This assures me the true temperature reaches the level it needs to be at regardless of what it says on the dial. Watts matter. The Cover: The most simplest thing matters the most for an electric grill - and that is the lid (cover). Many electric grills do not have one and it is essential when using your electric grill to distribute the heat when cooking. Take it off near the end for the full grill look and taste. Grill Quality of the Plate: In reading so many reviews of various products, one of the chief complaints was the grill did not distribute heat evenly or reach the stated temperature. This grill plate cooks evenly throughout the plate. Even better is that the grill plate heats up immediately - there is literally no wait time. Pretty impressive. Plate Type: Most models had flat grills where this model has ridges. To be honest, I thought I would have preferred the flat grill but after cooking meat skewers and steaks, I see why the ridges are absolutely better - it allows the grease to separate and go to the outer ring and drip pan. Also, it leaves grill marks on your steak which looks like you actually cooked it on the outdoor BBQ grill. Plate Size: Elite Gourmet has three sizes (11-inch, 12-inch and 14-inch). I ordered the 14-inch plate thinking maybe I should have went with the 12-inch - but glad I went with the 14-inch as it is perfect when cooking a couple steaks and/or adding various veggies around the plate. I'm glad I didn't order the 12-inch. The 14-inch is just right. And for some odd reason, the 14-inch was less money than the 12-inch - so scored even better on that one! Non-Stick and Easy to Clean: The marketing states this grill is non-stick and easy to clean. My first use was cooking BBQ pork skewers and sure enough, the plate is nonstick and easy to clean as advertised. I simply wiped down the plate to remove the BBQ sauce char (and garlic) with ease. It made it quick and easy to use the grill right away for my veggies. A+ Smokeless Grill Just about every electric grill claims theirs is smokeless - but it basically is just a form of marketing magic. Now when you cook with the lid/cover on, it is essentially smokeless (until you remove the lid). However, it is pretty unrealistic to expect any type of cooking device to be "smokeless" as it is a matter of physics. Unless there is some sort of air induction feature, this is basically the same for all types of models. Value: I challenge anyone to find a better electric grill than this one based on the quality alone but take into consideration the price point, you simply cannot beat the overall value. I was leery about the plastic base but wanted to try it anyway to see if it'd melt. It didn't. Highest setting was 450degrees and cooked our meats pretty well. The heat seemed pretty well distributed although the part with no oil/grease took longer to cook. The drip pan is also plastic and did not melt. It caught drippings pretty well. Clean up was easy with soap and water, so long as to avoid the plug area and the bottom encasing all the electrical elements. The power cord is a bit short but easily fixed by using a long extension cord. ... show more

I had many electric oven and pan by far this the best since it is large for making multiple foods like potato and eggs and bacon all at same time. the glass top was very smart feature since in my old grill I had to bring a glass top a it never fit completely but now I have a perfect fit and it will keep the food hot longer and keep the flies out of your food, ... show more

UPDATE - The handle issue from my original review was user error. There was an additional collar piece that went under the handle that I hadn't seen yet in the box. Once I put that in place, everything fir perfectly. With that fixed, I decided it was worth giving the grill a fair shot. We did some KBBQ on it and it went great. The grill plate gets hot very quickly, which is really nice. Didn't have to wait long to start cooking. I am not convinced that the temperatures marked are correct (my reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5), but we found that at the top setting, the temperature was just right to cook thinly sliced meat so that it wasn't cooking too fast or too slow. The size of the grill was spacious for 2 of us to use and could probably accommodate 4 people's worth, though it would start feeling a little snug. Clean up couldn't have been easier. Had the whole thing hand cleaned in like 3 minutes as the leftover oil and food bits just slid right off the non-stick surface. No appreciable smoke while we were cooking. There was a little grease spatter on the table around the grill, but that's to be expected. Overall, I recommend it if your purpose is KBBQ, though I think it could be a bit underpowered for cooking thick steaks or something like that. Certainly for the money it's a good value. The grilling plate is almost concerningly light. I question how well it will hold up over time. I'm also concerned that the nonstick coating looks like the cheap kind that comes off very easily and that the base seems to be very thin cheap plastic. The last straw - I tried to attach the handle to the lid with the supplied bolt, but the bolt is at least 50% longer than it should be, so the result is that that handle just sort of hangs off the lid. I had really high hopes about this being a great indoor grill for KBBQ, but I have to say that my first impression is bad enough that I will likely send this thing back. ... show more

Perfect indoor grill. I had one prior and lost the cord so this was a great purchase. In a week I’ve made fish, chicken breasts that has been sooo juicy and flavorful and burgers. Everything is better than in the stove or oven and saving me in the electric bill. Now that I’m only cooking for 2 this is a better option. I have already told several people about it ... show more
