  • This item fails to power on
Size: 3.5 Quart / 14 Cup
I received and returned the first one of these mini deep fryers because it wouldn’t power on. I received an identical replacement. I do mean identical. The second unit would not power on either. This unit has a magnetic power connection. It connects magnetically but does not pass power through the connection. I attempted to hold in the safely switch to see if it would power on. Still no power passed through the connection. This item can’t be returned now for credit, refund or exchange. I’m left with a chrome polished paperweight the size of a breadbox. This engineering design is a failure. I won’t attempt to order another unit. ... show more

  • Works great with some caveats.
Size: 3.5 Quart / 14 Cup
Avid fryer here and I wanted to use this for a little while before reviewing it. The Oster I used for years before finally died and is no longer available so I gave this one a try. We use our fryer at least 2-3 times a week for nuggets, fries, and chicken sandwich patties so I've put it through it's paces. +It heats up within a reasonable time for it's wattage so I'm confident the rating is accurate and it's ample enough to maintain it's temperature while frying. +I like the design that when you hang the basket it's well out of the oil at an angle to drip dry. +I've tested the temperature setting with a thermometer and the settings are accurate as well. It just works great as a fryer. Cons: -The fit and finish could be nicer. I know it's cheap but my Oster was the same price and felt more robust and the pieces fit together better. Doesn't effect performance though. Just makes it feel cheap. -The ink used to print the lettering around the knobs absolutely WILL wipe right off the first time hot oil splatters on them. Did no one seriously test this? You'd think that would be the FIRST requirement when choosing the ink. Annoying, but yet again, doesn't effect the performance when I use 375 all the time anyways. -I have to question the wisdom in the plastic shrouding on the lid. It's weird shape makes it difficult to clean, awkward to grab with the weird recessed handle, and just seems to serve no purpose. My Oster simply had a metal lid. It worked fine and was far easier to clean. I don't need you to protect me from getting burned. It's a fryer. I KNOW it's hot. Just put a decent handle on it that sticks out better. -I HATE these knobs. Again, it's a fryer. It's going to get oil on the knobs. Who thought smooth round knobs with some tiny bumps on the top edge were a good idea for knobs guaranteed to get oil on them? Just use some simple blade style knobs that are laughably easier to turn if they get oily at all. These are impossible to turn backwards against the timer to turn off the fryer when I'm done with it. I'm thinking of seeing if I can replace them or use a Dremel to cut some cross hatching in at least the timer knob so it's easier to turn when it gets oil on it. Small complaints that don't effect the actual performance of the fryer, but it seems like these could be fixed at no increased cost and the design just wasn't that well thought out with it's intended use in mind. Ditch the useless shroud on the lid. Change to blade style handles like many stoves use for this exact reason. And find an ink that doesn't wipe right off the product the first time it gets hot oil on it. That would make a decent fryer a great one. ... show more

The capacity described in the specs is according the real product. It's very practical to fry small pieces of food to 3 people. The food is ready in few minutes! Its size is perfect for storage.

  • You will most likely feel a little underwhelmed.
Size: 3.5 Quart / 14 Cup
First off, make sure you turn the timer on 30min then turn the heat on to 375. If you don't do both it wont heat up. It is a fryer. It can fry food. But here's the problems. I bought the largest size and the basket can hold about 4 chicken tenders two in each row or 2 breasts crammed next to each other. Its small. I cant imagine how small the medium size is. You could just fills the basket and have everything stacked on top of each other and maybe get 10 chicken tenders and 4 breasts but here's where you run into the next problem. As soon as the fryer is ready and the heating up light turns off, as soon as you ad your food it drops temperature like crazy. Cools the oil and the warm up light turns back on and stays on for about 4-5min as the food cooks. So its not heating fast enough to keep up with the cold food you just added lower the oil temp. So add 2-3 min to whatever you are cooking. And as you continue to fry you will constantly see the warming up light turning on and off as it battles to keep the temp at 350 or 375. So you cant overfill the basket if you want that perfect crunch. 2 or 3 tenders max or add more cook time. I found the best method is to fry your food for 4-5min. Lift them up and let the oil drain off of them and let the fryer heat back up to 375. Then let it sit at 375 for 3-5min. After, drop the food back into the fryer for its second fry and do another 5min-6min. This creates a perfect crispy bite and you let the fryer do a full reheat back to 375 versus it struggling to keep there for 12 straight minutes. That's how long it took for 2 breasts to reach the perfect crispiness but with that amount of cook time they dried out. ... show more
