  • This item fails to power on
Size: 3.5 Quart / 14 Cup
I received and returned the first one of these mini deep fryers because it wouldn’t power on. I received an identical replacement. I do mean identical. The second unit would not power on either. This unit has a magnetic power connection. It connects magnetically but does not pass power through the connection. I attempted to hold in the safely switch to see if it would power on. Still no power passed through the connection. This item can’t be returned now for credit, refund or exchange. I’m left with a chrome polished paperweight the size of a breadbox. This engineering design is a failure. I won’t attempt to order another unit. I was denied a return on the second unit so I was stuck with it. I got it working by cutting out the magnetic electrical connection and wiring around the contact switch. It works now. I would recommend the manufacturer modify the electrical connection to improve reliability ... show more

  • Works great with some caveats.
Size: 3.5 Quart / 14 Cup
Avid fryer here and I wanted to use this for a little while before reviewing it. The Oster I used for years before finally died and is no longer available so I gave this one a try. We use our fryer at least 2-3 times a week for nuggets, fries, and chicken sandwich patties so I've put it through it's paces. +It heats up within a reasonable time for it's wattage so I'm confident the rating is accurate and it's ample enough to maintain it's temperature while frying. +I like the design that when you hang the basket it's well out of the oil at an angle to drip dry. +I've tested the temperature setting with a thermometer and the settings are accurate as well. It just works great as a fryer. Cons: -The fit and finish could be nicer. I know it's cheap but my Oster was the same price and felt more robust and the pieces fit together better. Doesn't effect performance though. Just makes it feel cheap. -The ink used to print the lettering around the knobs absolutely WILL wipe right off the first time hot oil splatters on them. Did no one seriously test this? You'd think that would be the FIRST requirement when choosing the ink. Annoying, but yet again, doesn't effect the performance when I use 375 all the time anyways. -I have to question the wisdom in the plastic shrouding on the lid. It's weird shape makes it difficult to clean, awkward to grab with the weird recessed handle, and just seems to serve no purpose. My Oster simply had a metal lid. It worked fine and was far easier to clean. I don't need you to protect me from getting burned. It's a fryer. I KNOW it's hot. Just put a decent handle on it that sticks out better. -I HATE these knobs. Again, it's a fryer. It's going to get oil on the knobs. Who thought smooth round knobs with some tiny bumps on the top edge were a good idea for knobs guaranteed to get oil on them? Just use some simple blade style knobs that are laughably easier to turn if they get oily at all. These are impossible to turn backwards against the timer to turn off the fryer when I'm done with it. I'm thinking of seeing if I can replace them or use a Dremel to cut some cross hatching in at least the timer knob so it's easier to turn when it gets oil on it. Small complaints that don't effect the actual performance of the fryer, but it seems like these could be fixed at no increased cost and the design just wasn't that well thought out with it's intended use in mind. Ditch the useless shroud on the lid. Change to blade style handles like many stoves use for this exact reason. And find an ink that doesn't wipe right off the product the first time it gets hot oil on it. That would make a decent fryer a great one. ... show more

  • Good, but could be better
Size: 3.5 Quart / 14 Cup
I had an older unit almost exactly like this purchased locally from a now defunct discount chain store under the name Elite Cuisine. I have had it for about 6 years and the lettering is wearing off for the temperature control. This one, the Elite Gourmet is identical in every way except for the addition of a timer knob. I have used it three times, and the lettering is already wearing off. When you drop food into the oil and put the cover on, steam escapes from the slots in the cover where the handle to the basket comes through, AND from the back of the cover where the temperature and timer knobs are. That hot steam moistens the lettering, and when you go to wipe off the moisture, the lettering comes off along with it. The same with any oil that may have splattered there. It is the perfect size for two people. Filling the oil pan to the max fill line, uses two 48oz. bottles of oil. That's not so bad. Any fryer bigger than this one would almost be cost prohibitive to fill up considering the rising prices at the grocery stores. It woud be a great fryer if the lettering was put there with something that was heat and moisture resistant, instead of the cheap paint that all fryers similar to this one have. Paint on plastic just doesn't hold up very long. It is a poor design that unfortunatley quite a few brand names follow. ... show more
