LOVE this trashcan. My third one, which is why I ordered two more. Here’s why. It’s the separate inner plastic liner. If something spills in the bag inside the liner, and then if the bag leaks (you know this happens), I DON’T care. Out comes the polypropylene liner. Clean it out. Put in a fresh plastic trash bag. Back in goes the liner. On goes the sensor lid. And voilà! We’re back on business. With ALL other trash cans that do not have a separate liner, the bottom of the trash can WILL become a mess. And it CAN leak onto the floor. Those other trash cans including those with a ring under the lid, well, you have to stretch the bag over the ring. Then stuff the bag back into the can and put the lid back on. I think it’s a waste of money to spend the money on a sensor can that does NOT have the inner liner. I had one, which taught me to never buy that kind again. This cannot compare to what I bought and what I’m recommending to you.

Purchased the trash can less than 3 months ago. Worked fine for the first month although the sensor seems a bit sensitive. After 1 month was up the phantom triggers started happening. The trash can would randomly open when no one was there. It would then stay open thinking something is keeping it open. Cleaning the sensor and lid doesn’t fix the issue. Only way it seems to fix it temporarily is turning the lid off leaving it off for a while and then back on. However only works for less than an hour then the lid would randomly open again. Contacted support opened a ticket 2 weeks ago, sent video evidence and no responses or follow ups. Very disappointed with the purchase as this was our second eko trash can. The first one lasted years. This one is not as well built and feels cheap for what was paid. Avoid.

well built, put batteries in it, install a bag, turn it on, go. Nice stainless look and finish. doors are sturdy, well designed. I am please 2 weeks in use and the electronics failed.. my family and I really like this self opening kitchen garbage can, it is also well made, so I submitted a return and selected to receive a replacement, same item. Amazing Amazon delivered a new unit the next day. I swapped out the opener portion and all is great again. Would still highly recommend this product and thank you Amazon for making the return/exchange a smooth efficient process.

Not impressed. Definitely not worth $100 I would say closer to $65. The bags that come with it do not fit way too small impossible to get over the edge of the inside liner. The lid opens with ease and shows you when it is about to close which is nice. But if you put your hand over it to extend the time it stays open it will not. You have let it close and do it again anyway. It is large so make sure you have the space for it. As a single person I didn’t really need one so big I wish I went for a smaller one that bags can actually fit in.

I finally upgraded to a full-size recycling bin (EKO Phantom-T 50L/13.2 gallon vertical motion sensor version) since the Simplehuman under cabinet combo unit couldn't hold much more than a single 2L soda bottle on the recycling side. My needs then are clear bags which were easily found - Hefty scent free 13 gallon "Clear Tall Kitchen Drawstring Bags" available on Amazon in boxes of 60. The Hefty bags go all the way to the bottom eliminating the concern of heavy items yanking the bag loose. Reviewers had expressed concern about finding bags and it nearly prevented me from buying this unit so I wanted to offer some specifics. Perhaps the concerns were for other unit sizes as the listing has several choices. As with all garbages the recessed ring that holds the bag in place (and keep it from hanging outside the perimeter of the bin) is a pain, although it DOES work fine. I don't want to dedicate 5+ minutes to "tucking in" the bag all around between the ring and the perimeter so I just skip the ring entirely and put the bag overlapping the outside perimeter and pop the top back on - as you can see in the picture. It stays in place fine and I don't notice or care about an inch of bag being visible - it's not like people otherwise would think this thing is a piece of art - it's a garbage can no matter how you dress it. Maybe if company is coming I'll get up early that day... A red LED light that flashes every 6 seconds on the top could be annoying but easily solved with a LightDims black circle over it (also on Amazon and potentially visible in the picture). Our unit had a small ding on the right side despite the solid double-cardboard box packaging it arrived in which was frustrating but not enough to warrant a return given the size of the package, my laziness, and the fact that this is likely the just the first of many dings in it's natural life. It does however highlight the thinness of the stainless material used. Does it matter? Not really, but the unit is fairly light - that might be good or bad for you. I was worried about walking by - would it pop open all the time as it has a 6" sensitivity zone? No it doesn't and we walk very close to it in our regular paths of movement. If this is a problem for your location it's easy to set on manual mode and press the open button which is just as fast opening as the sensor. I read somewhere about an odor or filter package being there, but I never found the filter or where to put it even if I did. Given it's a recycling bin for me and not regular garbage this isn't a grave concern. The 6 AA batteries (which were not included) were easy to install. I choose to put felt feet on the bottom given the location otherwise it would be hard to drag out to replace the bag since you need clearance all around to pull the lid off. With the felt feet it's easy to slide out, pop the top off, replace the bag/top and slide back. I will say that moving from an open-topped under cabinet model to one where you need to pull off (and set down) a top every time you replace the bag takes some getting used to and is not ideal. But that is certainly not a problem unique to this unit and reflects more on my laziness than the company or the product.
