🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The shelter has been generally well-received by most customers, who consider it to be a good value for its price. It is particularly recommended for housing young chickens or just a couple of birds, with users pleased by how light and easy to move it is. However, users mentioned that it requires some extra work, including additional painting or staining for greater resilience against the weather, and the assembly can be tricky due to inaccurate cut of the wood and unclear instructions.

Pros

  • 🐔 Good value for money
  • 🌿 Ideal for younger chickens or a few birds
  • 📦 Light and easy to move
  • 🐥 Can be used as a transition coop into larger ones
  • 🛠 Can withstand modifications based on customer’s needs

Cons

  • ❗ Requires weather-proofing, such as painting or staining
  • 📘 Assembly can be difficult due to inaccurate cuts and unclear instructions
  • 💨 Wood can splinter easily
  • 🌲 Some parts may arrive broken, needing glue to repair
  • 🌋 Not recommended for more than 3-4 chickens or for use in cold climates

Should I Buy It?

Yes, the shelter is worth considering for those who only have a few chickens and are able to make additional modifications to improve durability. It offers a good value for money but buyers should expect some extra work for weather-proofing and during assembly. However, this may not be suitable for those residing in cold climates or planning to house more than 3 to 4 chickens.

  • Great little coop. Added paint. Awesome!
Great coop for what I needed it for: To house my crooked beak silkie and my new chicks. I painted it to protect it from the harsher weather and for the longevity of the coop. Need to add one more coat and sealer. I accidentally attached the wrong side (where the chicken door/ramp is) but it still works great as I keep that door open anyway. This Coop is not perfectly sturdy but will be great with reinforcement. I keep this mini coop in another enclosed fenced coop area so they can roam around safely. The inside is awesome and roomy. I like this coop for what I need it for and adding paint for protection is definitely worth it if you want to get more out of it. The price is great and I’m overall very satisfied with this purchase. It was easy to assemble. After I painted the pieces, I assembled in about an hour. Turned out cute! ... show more

  • you get what you pay for
This shelter will work for maybe 2-3 small birds IF you provide more outdoor space than is provided by the enclosure. This is very small - make sure you look at the measurements before ordering. The wood is lightly treated, but if you want it to actually withstand the weather, I highly recommend painting or staining the pieces before you assemble them. The outdoor enclosure is good, but not terribly sturdy, if your birds like to dig and roll near a fence they will be out in no time. This is cute, but not necessarily ready to go once you build it. We had to modify it so that our hens would be more comfortable, we painted the pieces before putting it together, and provided a bigger fenced area for them (complete with topper to avoid aerial predators and from having to clip primary feathers. ... show more

  • Cheaply Made but Works
I read the reviews and knew what I was getting: a cheaply made coop that work. It is small and truly will only fit 2 chickens. I have Orpingtons. The instructions are terrible and half the nails aren't labeled so make sure you keep everything organized. The instructions are just pictures no written instructions so it took super long to put together. Also some of the instructions are wrong and have it backwards. It's helpful to look at the Amazon pictures at the same time while putting it together. The wood cracks easily and is not fitted well at all. Overall: it's a cheap option but not a long term option I expect to last by any means. ... show more

  • Horrible junk,
Worse item I have ever purchased. It's tiny maybe 2-4 baby chicks at the most. It came out of box broken see picture. Almost Every screw caused wood to split. Roof fell right off. There are 1-2 inch gaps in the nesting boxes. A raccoon could reach right in. The screening is so thin. It's stapled on and most of the staples went straight through the screen splitting the metal. There's no way it would survive a squirrel invasion. So many gaps snakes would have a blast. I can't return it because I tried to put it together thinking maybe I can use it in garage as a brooder but not even safe for that and it fell apart anyway. Now at this price I knew it wasn't going to be fort Knox but I thought I could reinforce it to get us through until a coop was built but not usable at all. So I guess I'm just out my money because how do you return this. We are just going to throw it on the fire pit. Yes it's that tiny. I now have 4 chicks needing out of the brooder and nowhere to put them. ... show more

  • So cute! And way to assemble
The media could not be loaded. I was intimidated when I received the box but once it was opened it was easy to assemble and I did it in just an hour or so. It’s sooooo stinking cute and will hold 3-4 medium laying hens. It’s light enough I can move it around but sturdy enough to do the trick.

  • Size
It’s a decent size held 6 ducks and easy to put together. Very sturdy and durable.

  • Not very strong
This coop does not do well for 4 chickens maybe 2 or 3 the roosting bars are to close to the bedding tray so the chickens end up sleeping in the bedding tray while assembling was pretty easy overall it's best for 2 chickens at most

  • Costs less than buying the materials to make your own
We bought two of these, the first for a family member and I assembled it. Easy for me because I have done a lot of carpenter work, but I can see where average Joe may have some problems. Just use the pictures as a guide. Hold pieces up next to each other and visually verify where they go. PRE DRILL ALL SCREW HOLES with a bit that is slightly more narrow than the threads of each screw. You'll figure it out. The first one we got was perfect and turned out nice, came with directions and the material was decent. The second one however, didn't even come with directions and looked like a new, or younger employee put it together. A piece was broke, some of their screws had cracked the wood, but not too terrible. I was able to repair the broken piece and put some glue in the crack. It is complete and looks just fine. The chickens won't care at all and it is still cheaper than if I bought the materials myself and took the time to design and build it. The final product is 81" long, 45" high at the roof peak (27" top of cage section), and 22" deep. ... show more
