When I first got into smoking, it was with the ubiquitous. Masterbuilt design. I was pleased with it until things started to go bad. First was the plastic control unit housing. To protect my smoker left outside, I bought a cover. They come in black. Hot sun, black cover, and the wrong plastic used for their control unit left me with a melted, malformed control unit. It was still functional, but it looked like crap. When I went to use it the first time this Spring, internal wiring was whacked. Every time I activated it, the outlet GFI tripped. It was past their warranty period. I went shopping. The East Oak smoker caught my eye first on price, and then on features. I wanted digital temp control and 4 racks. My old smoker had increased 25% in price in 2 years. I liked what I saw in their posting. This smoker arrived very well packaged. If it gets damaged in transit, the shipper did something wrong. It's obvious to me packaging engineers were involved. Assembly is installing all the removable parts and attaching the rear handle with a screwdriver. Remove the existing bolts on the top rear and use them to secure the handle. Compared to my old smoker, here is what I like. *A 3-Year Warranty. My last one didn't give me two full years. However, to get the full 3 years, you must register with East Oak within 90 days of purchase. *It's easier to move around. My old smoker had nothing to grab a hold of. If I wanted to move it, I either used a hand truck or picked it up with a bear hug. The rear handle makes it easy. The rear wheels make it very easy if you have a surface that accommodates. *A more robust removable chip tray. My old one had a metal handle with spot welds that protruded. Over time it got bumped enough to break. A replacement was prohibitively expensive. I had to open the door to add chips thereafter. This design is superior. The chip tray is also about 3 times the capacity compared to the old. *Bigger and better placed grease trap. My old smoker had a small shallow tray that attached to the back of the smoker. It often got bumped out of place. If I forgot to drain it and it rained, grease overflowed onto the patio concrete. This one sits below and centered. Rain water can't get to it. It is removed from the front, not the back. It has at least 4 times the capacity. *A more secure door seal. This one has some type of synthetic rubber. It takes the door latch to squish it tight. No smoke will leak from there. *Better placed/designed drip pan/system and water pan. Most of what drips of the meat will end up in the water pan. Easier cleaning compared to the old where the water pan and the drip pan were one and the same. The only place I find this unit inferior is in smoker volume. This unit claims to have a lot of rack space, but its rack cooking vertical dimension is smaller making the space between the racks smaller. A piece of meat can quickly become too thick and a tray must be removed. It's still thick enough for a chicken breasts, pork loin, and even a lasagna pan that I used for baked beans but not thick enough for some beef roasts. By the way, the trays between my Masterbuilt and this are not interchangeable. The East Oak racks are about 1/2” wider. Personally, I think this is a better, more modern looking unit compared to my last. Point of concern: Parts availability. Nothing appears prone to failure on this smoker. My concern is the control panel. East Oak sells patio furniture, patio heaters, and smokers and grills. They have a website, an address in California, and a telephone number. I don't know if they are big enough to stock spare parts for everything they sell. There website provides no path to repair parts. I assume if you need something you have to start with their customer service. The unknown fact of who East Oak is explains my 4 instead of 5 star rating. ... show more

First of all let me tell you ,I m new to smoking and never used a smoker before. This one to me , is perfect for beginners. It so so easy to use and creates perfect flavor without me “babysitting “ it. You load and it does the work for you. I also like the size. It is just about the size of a small dorm room refrigerator and perfect for a family dinner. It seems to be good quality but also lightweight enough for me to move it by myself. It arrived so well packed that almost nothing could have damaged it during transit. The door closes VERY securely and the racks are not made cheap either. Someone on here mentioned to season the smoker before first use so I did and would also recommend doing it to break it in and burn of possible chemical smell. After that, perfect chicken:). Very user friendly. I recommend this even for a newbie like me . ... show more

Excellent smoker, easy to use. All you have to do is set the temp and time, add wood chips every now and then. With just a few chips it Produces the perfect amount of smoke. You don't have to be a pitmaster to make great tasting BBQ. Unit is easy to assemble and use. Smoked 5 times already and the meats turned out wonderfully flavored. Set it and forget it. Setup was easy, packed well. Did a pre heat for a few hours without meat to make sure any chemical fumes are gone before I used it with meat. I did some chicken and it was so easy. My other kamado smoker gets old trying to maintain all the time with certain foods. The chicken had a smoked taste but not strong which is how I like it. Just a hint. very juicy as well. The temp maintained very easy too. Can't wait to try a Picanha this weekend! ... show more

We are very excited to try our first smoke but for the cost we received a smoker that is dented in several places and the legs are lop sided. No damage to shipping box so it had to be packaged this way.
