This is a review for Dyson Hot+Cool™ HF1 Rapid React heater fan (White/Silver). This heater/fan is overpriced. It's smaller than I expected. I assumed it was going to be a floor unit for the price, but it's a table top sized fan. That being said, I wouldn't consider it easily portable although I guess you could move it from room to room. It cools pretty well, but I haven't found the heat function to be very effective. It is pretty quiet and my remote control works as it should. This is my first Dyson product. I've avoided them in the past because they always seemed overpriced. I don't think this fan is changing my opinion of that. ... show more

    • Faulty/broke product
Buyer beware. The controls on the front of the unit & the remote do not function properly. Remote will not stay paired with machine & the only way to turn the power on it off is to unplug it b/c the power buttons...none if them will turn the machine off. Heat button on the front does nothing. Oscillate buttons on remote do nothing. To increase fan speed on remote speed goes straight to 10 and when using the remote you can't increase it but to go from 1 to 10....nothing in between. Unable to connect to MyDyson app b/c the wifi/bluetooth on the unit is non-existent. Machine is too expensive to have all these issues....returning. ... show more

Disappointed in this product. It does not have good cooling capabilities. Hopefully it will be more useful in the winter.

    • A lot of QOL issues for the massive price tag, can't recommend it
This is my first ever Dyson product. For the value of $500, I'm going to be pretty nitpicky for a fan/heater. First, having a combo fan and heater is nice and has already served me use. Now, on to my problems with it. Firstly, it doesn't feel premium. This thing is $500. It's mostly plastic, has a noticable and kind of annoying whine to it when running, and frankly the control for this thing sucks. Every control adjustment takes a second or so to actually do something, which isn't what I want in a product like this. I don't want to wait for the in and out animation on the LCD screen I can barely see to play before it does what I told it to. It needs to be snappy, this is a fan. Secondly, there are effectively two different modes on this unit. Manual (cool fan only) and targeted temperature (cool fan and heater). There is no other separation. There is no "heat" only. Being able to set the temp and have it adjust automatically is a cool feature though and has been effective. The app has a feature to set specific times during days when the fan turns on and all the settings... except in the United States there's a regulation that prevents it from being able to control heating. So you can only use the app scheduling on cooling mode. The cable is thick with two Cs. Thicc and stiff. I think I've seen dryer cables smaller and less stiff than this fan's. It's about six feet. The plug end on it also has a bulky rubber part on it that I have no idea the purpose of? It's huge, puts strain on the outlet, and makes this thing impossible to plug in to any spot that is even remotely tight. I understand the thickness of the cable to handle the heating power draw, but do keep it in mind. The oscillation sucks. At 15° it goes back and forth from the center point (inline with the power cable), 40° goes 20° off to the left and right, same with 70°. For a $500 fan, I wish I the oscillation range was much bigger. When you stop the oscillation, it does stop where you stopped it at, which is nice. Though a reset to center option would be nice too. The noise when the fan is oscillating is noticeable and could be annoying, especially when slowing down to change direction. While the fan pushes out a good bit of air, the frequency of the noise isn't ideal compared to the white noise you get with other fans. This thing is tiny, like cubicle sized. I would say it is not fit for an entire room, especially given you can get full sized Dyson fans for about the same price. The sensitivity for the remote is also pretty bad. I'm unsure where the receiver is on the device, but you have to point it DIRECTLY at it for it to pick up the remote control's presses. There's such little wiggle room even pointing at the thing from my desk (maybe seven to eight feet away) it often does not register. This thing is worth $100 at most in my opinion, and I think even that's being generous. $500 is insane for this quality. I simply cannot recommend this at the cost. ... show more

    • High quality, low noise, and keeps me cool
I cannot say enough good things about this heating and cooling system from Dyson. It is actually a high quality product. And I was very impressed with how well it works! You anticipate these things working as a heater but not so much as a cooling device, and it actually gets pretty cold. It has a strong blow, and it goes up 10 different levels. And of course oscillates. I have yet to have it through the winter, so the heating shall be seen, but I anticipate it's going to be fantastic. And as it should be considering this is a more pricey item. But I have 0 complaints, it's great in my bathroom while I am getting ready-it helps keep me cool so my makeup doesn't melt off. I'm so glad I gave it a try. It's a really great investment! Highly recommend ... show more

    • Excellent Design and Function
I am a big fan of Dyson products and this heater/fan seemed like another well-designed product. I am not a techie person, so I just want the basics done well. In the case of this product I was excited about the safety of a blade-less fan, and the combination of heating and cooling. Dyson delivers on both of those features. I can run this fan with my grandkids around and not worry about little fingers or them sticking things into a fan blade. For a bedroom or office the unit provides adequate heat output or cooling breeze. For a larger room it will provide air flow, but for heat you would want to be sitting close to it. The small size makes it easy to move around. It is lightweight but sits firmly on a carpeted floor. There is no noticeable vibration so it could also sit on a table or shelf safely. The fan is very quiet and rotates up to 70 degrees left and right. There is a little remote that works great. Operation is intuitive. That’s good because it did not come with any instructions. I assume Dyson expects me to find those on line, although there was a page full of safety warnings included in the box, so not sure why they couldn’t give me printed instructions. I understand there is also connectivity via an app. I really don’t need that feature for a portable fan/heater but I suppose if you relied on this product to make a room comfortable it would be nice to be able to turn it on remotely. Overall this is a well designed product that checks all but one block for me. The exception is value. This product is very expensive for the amount of use I will get from it. My Dyson vacuum costs half as much, is also an outstanding design, and will get a lot more use than this fan/heater. I think if you are a person who really needs the supplemental heating and cooling, and wants the sleek design for your space, then it is going to be worth the price.
