  • Upgrade from my old v8
Style: Gen5outsize
This vacuum is really nice. Because it’s big it is very heavy though, I got this to replace my old v8 animal that I have had and loved for 6 years. My favorite part of this upgrade is the hardwood floor soft spin brush and the light that shows the little dust. The on switch stays on without a button to have to hold all the time too and having a second battery is really worth it along with the huge dust bin. ... show more

  • Dyson's greatest engineering feat in vacuum technology
Style: Gen5outsize
Dyson's Gen5 is their crowning achievement in vacuum design and efficiency. I own other Dyson vacuums including roller ball and the V-15 (upstairs) which is a runner up to the Gen5 (donwnstairs). We have two large double coat dogs that shed like a cottonwood tree. I have always wanted a cordless vacuum to compete with my Miele corded canister vacuum (I hate cords). I bought a Lupe cordless (now out of business) which I thought was really good. I researched and first bought the Dyson V-15, what a great vacuum which blew me away on power and especially the laser light vacuum head for the floors, but hated to keep constant pressure on trigger switch. If you have babies crawling around, own a dog/cat, have a wood burning stove, etc., you absolutely have to get a Gen5 or V-15 with the laser head. You are going to hate these laser head units at first, because it shows every spec of dust, every dog/cat hair, basically everything imaginable that needs vacuuming. Then you quickly begin to love it because you can see everything that doesn't belong on the floor disappear making you feel super confidently and clean (the big vacuums leave stuff behind but you can't see it). Gen5 is superior in many ways to the v-15 - more powerful, has larger capacity tank, weighs a little more, but it has a on off push button switch (which is why I bought the Gen5), where the V-15 you have to pull trigger to keep it running and get finger cramp after a while (Dyson should design a trigger lock on the V-15). Gen5 is HEPA filtered, it has larger rug head and I can't believe how efficient the rug brush is. Sorry Miele but on G5 on Eco power cleans dog hair off rugs in one stroke (my powerful corded canister vacuum can't do that), no need for higher power. As an engineer I can only say, this is Dyson's crowning jewel vacuum, I had no idea they were that efficient, powerful, easy to handle. My only criticism I have for these two Dyson's models is the batteries which are 3600 mAh, a little mediocre for me, but will last about 20 min on medium power. First thing I did is buy high capacity after market 8500 mAh batteries that will almost triple the run time as I like to vacuum fast on high power, albeit not necessary, with these machines. You will love the better Gen5, but V-15 is amazing as well if you just have a small apartment. ... show more

  • Unrepairable after two years.
Style: Gen5outsize
I purchased this unit exactly 2 years ago. Dyson GEN5outsize cordless, SV24. The unit worked very well, particularly with the green laser light on the hardwood floor unit. Also the carpet unit picks up far more particular material than my old corded vacuum. Unfortunately, the unit quit working and made only a clicking noise when turned on. The troubleshooting guide was useless as the problem was not related to obstruction or battery failure. Finally, I was able to contact a representative through the Dyson app. She listened to the sound that the machine was making over my cell phone. I was told that I needed a new motor/cyclone unit for $129. I was directed to the Dyson website where I found the unit was back-ordered. I was able to leave an email address where they would notify me when the replacement unit would be available. This is a fairly low tech way to manage customer service – requiring a customer to repeatedly check emails and going back to the website. Meanwhile, my $900 unit is useless standing in a corner. Just because my vacuum cleaner is out of service doesn’t mean that my house doesn’t continue to get dirty. I would recommend this unit only as a backup to an otherwise functional corded vacuum unit as repair of the Dyson product cannot be done in a timely way. I hope someday the replacement part becomes available, but who knows. ... show more

  • Even better than the V11 Outsize is replaces
Style: Gen5outsize
This Gen5outsize replaces our 4+ year old Dyson V11 Outsize which I loved. The V11 Outsize was the first cordless vacuum with a large enough bin, large enough head to make vacuuming efficient, and enough run time to clean our whole apartment. We bought the V11 Outsize on sale 4+ years ago for $700, so not a cheap chunk of change. I wasn't stoked that after only 4 + years the V11 conked out, but I loved that vacuum so much I ponied up $900 to get the Gen5outsize, which was on sale. So is the newer version worth $200 more? The simply answer is surprisingly yes. Don't get me wrong $900 even on sale is pretty insane for a vacuum BUT the Gen5 removes the trigger which was annoying. It comes with an anti hair tangle head (finally). It comes with a floor attachment with a laser on it to detect dirt and yeah it works. The vacuum somehow is even better on carpet and than the V11 picking up 80% of the dirt on the first go around when the V11 needed 2-3 go arounds. The Outsize series was never the lightest vacuum but for the amount of power you get and the fact you get two batteries makes the Gen5oustize an amazing choice if you want a cordless that truly can replace your corded vacuum and do floors and carpet. ... show more

  • Powerful, versatile, convenient, but less than perfect.
Style: Gen5outsize
An excellent vacuum. Really good suction power even with the low/auto setting (the Boosted power setting understandably drains the battery almost twice as fast, but it's nice to have the option). The cordless form-factor is pretty awesome. No hassle to bust it out and get cleaning. Sure, corded vacuums usually come with a generous length of power cable, but it's very convenient to no longer have to rely on the presence of wall outlets-- especially for large or multiple rooms. I really like the Fluffy Optic cleaning head. The dust illumination is really handy for seeing where you've cleaned (and how dirty it was in general). Pivots very nicely. I highly recommend this if you have a lot of hard floors. The Motorbar head is great for carpets and rugs. Adjust to multiple heights. The filter is very easy to access for periodic cleaning. Pretty neato how the extension combination duster/crevice tool are integrated I appreciate that it comes with a second battery for longer jobs or if you prefer always using Boosted power, -AND- a second power adapter to help keep both of them topped off between cleaning sessions. _ CRITICISMS: I'm very impressed by the performance as a battery-powered device, with the only compromise being a reduced runtime if you want the extra power (20-30min between the two batteries is enough for most homes), and this has been a wonderful upgrade over my previous vacuum in terms of performance & convenience, but for $1000 I had hoped to expect perfection. While some issues can be absolved by buying more accessories, the device itself has a couple shortcomings. Main complaint is that the Wall Dock cannot possibly hold everything that it comes with. So you may want a second dock or a 3rd-party rack unless you're stowing most of the components in a drawer. Does not provide a place for the second battery. You can charge it by plugging it in directly, but that doesn't make for a tidy setup. THE HAIR SCREW ATTACHMENT DOES NOT FIT ON THE WALL DOCK because it is too bulky to clear the wall. Rather poorly designed in that aspect. Even if it did fit, it would encroach horizontally in such a way that no other attachments can be placed onto the Dock. Stowing everything else on a single Wall Dock requires an odd configuration that compromises the "pick up & go" aspect of the intended design. Does not come with a flexible hose, so vacuuming tighter spaces like the car or using the upholstery attachment are a bit cumbersome. It is not immediately clear which Dyson hose attachment will work with it. (And take note that the *powered* attachments won't work with a hose, anyway.) Somewhat heavy to wield with a single hand unless you're using a floor attachment-- This feels more like a portable floor-vac form-factor with the versatility to be used as a powerful dust buster, so it's forgivable. And yes, I am keenly aware that this is an "XL variant" so arguably I cannot complain about this. The lever to open the dust bin feels like a point of weakness. Feels more delicate than it should be. I wouldn't be surprised if this particular part breaks from regular use. Hopefully doesn't somehow render it inoperable when it occurs. The material is mostly hard plastic. While it might be fairly tough, I feel like it will shatter spectacularly if it ever reaches a breaking point (instead of a bump or dent). Being a handheld/portable vacuum of this weight, I would anticipate the possibility of accidental drops. The dust bin-- despite being bigger than other Dyson models-- doesn't hold as much as other vacuums I've used, so I'm emptying it out more frequently. But being cordless makes it easy to do; just a quick trip to the trash can between rooms. (I suppose that is also a testament to how effectively & quickly it picks stuff off the floor). ... show more

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Best Dyson They’ve Ever Made — Large, Powerful, and Worth Every Dollar ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Best Dyson They’ve Ever Made — Large, Powerful, and Worth Every Dollar
Style: Gen5outsize
I’ve owned multiple Dyson products — this Gen5outsize vacuum is my second Dyson cleaner, and I also own their hair dryer. So when I wanted the best they make, I did the research and this model kept coming up as the flagship. And now that I’ve been using it since March, I can say: it’s 100% worth it. This vacuum is large, powerful, and built like a machine. The suction is insane — it doesn’t just clean floors, it deep-cleans carpet and tile like a plug-in unit. The bin is bigger than older Dysons, so you don’t have to empty it constantly. And the run time? Easily enough to clean a full house without racing against the battery. I even bought a dryer vent cleaning attachment, and the Gen5 handled that too — zero clogs, full power. No more touching lint by hand. Also, while I purchased the floor stand separately (shown in my photo), it does come with a wall mount attachment if you want to hang it up. The digital screen on the Dyson Gen5outsize is a surprisingly useful upgrade. It shows you real-time battery life, current suction mode (Eco, Auto, Boost), and even alerts for filter maintenance or clogs. You can see exactly how much time is left in your cleaning session down to the second, which makes it easy to plan around room size. It’s not just flashy — it’s functional, and once you have it, you won’t want to go back. Why This Dyson Wins: Most powerful suction of any cordless Dyson I've owned Extra-large bin = less stopping to empty Smooth maneuvering for a large unit Digital screen shows real-time performance and maintenance alerts Quality across the board — everything feels engineered, not plastic What Could Be Better: Nothing. This is Dyson at full send — power, size, usability. Just know it’s not small, but that’s the point. Final Word: If you want the best Dyson makes, this is it. You’ll pay more, but you get every dollar back in time, cleaning performance, and design. I’ve owned the cheaper ones — this is the one you keep. ... show more

  • What a (blessed) pain in the arse!
Style: Gen5outsize
Let me begin by saying I evaluate a product not just by how it performs, but by how the manufacturer delivers it to me. So this very large Amazon box arrives on my doorstep. Inside this box is ANOTHER Amazon box AND about 200 feet of brown paper filler. Inside this Amazon box is a Dyson box. Inside the Dyson box is ANOTHER Dyson box. This is the box that contains the vacuum. Inside this box, every single component - cleaner heads; cords; chargers; the vacuum itself - all enclosed in a box. There were boxes of various shapes and sizes - all empty space fillers, but boxes nonetheless. I counted them - 45 boxes. YEESH!!!! But let me now talk about how the Dyson Oversized works. That laser light will make you crazy - it will expose dirt and dust and hair and all MANNER of things not visible to your eyes. It does a GREAT job at picking up this stuff from hard floors like wood or tile. If you have carpeted floors you’ll need to use the standard beater bar with no laser light. There’s no trigger like previous Dyson machines - an on/off switch has replaced the trigger. It comes with two battery packs and two chargers, and I suggest you fully charge both batteries before your first use. There are a few different operating modes you can select. Since we have hard floors, I chose the ‘auto’ mode where the power level automatically adjusts to the amount of dirt being pulled in. I managed to break a Corelle dish on our tiled floor. After sweeping up all the visible glass fragments I went back with the laser light attachment. I literally couldn’t believe what I saw - THOUSANDS of glass fragments too small for my broom to sweep up, but enough fragments large enough to cause serious problems if I’d stepped on them. So many fragments it took me another 20 minutes to get them all swept up. I would NEVER have known about these fragments but for that laser light head. Yeah - it is one EXPENSIVE machine. But based on what I’ve seen it do thus far? Consider it money well spent. ... show more

  • Cleanest floors ever
Style: Gen5outsize
It has taken a while to learn this vacuum but we love it. We can vacuum an entire floor of our house on one battery without having to empty the canister. It is relatively quiet - the quietest vacuum I have ever had. Very maneuverable despite the larger canister size. Love the attachments and versatility. The larger canister does mean it is heavier so if light weight is your priority this may not be the best choice for you. For us it’s great - still lighter than our old vacuum and much easier to swivel around and under furniture. We charge one battery while using the other one. We have used it to clean floors, stairs, couches, and dog beds so far. Best of all, it sucks up every bit of dust and hair. Every single particle. Highly recommend. ... show more
