  • Easy to install and good tech support
Size: 32,000 Color: Blue
I bought this Fleck 5600 SXT to replace my old water softener. It looks like it's going to work out well. It handles my 23 GPG raw water just fine. The water from the softener output feels soft as you would expect. The instructions are very clear, much better than most instruction manuals. Also, I needed to contact customer support with a couple of minor questions. Both times I was connected with a support person right away. They both were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. One thing I'm not too wild about, however, is the support stand for the mineral tank. It's pretty hard to get the tank to sit straight. It's pretty cheesy. I think they could do better. Another thing to be aware of is the height. I researched the height, and the number I found for the 32,000 grain model was 51 inches. Wrong! That's for the tank only and does not include the control valve assembly that sits on top of it. The overall height is about 57.5 inches. That's a big deal for me because I placed it underneath some cabinets. The cabinet doors *barely* clear it. That's one reason I really want the mineral tank to sit really straight. One other minor thing to know is that the control valve display is shipped with a frosty plastic film over it. It doesn't look temporary to me, but it certainly would be stupid to cover the display with something like that. You need a sharp edge to lift it off. I ran through the setup with the film still in place and it made the display pretty hard to read, but I got through it okay. One feature I like about this product is that the display alternates between the current time and the number of gallons left before a recharge. One feature that my previous softener had that this one doesn't is a way to set a salt level below which a low-salt warning light will flash. If this product proves to be reliable over time, I'll be happy with it. ... show more

  • Works well

First I'll note that picking out a water softener on my own was a laborious ordeal, and I made some mistakes along the way. The biggest mistake was my misunderstanding of how to test water hardness. I had bought a TDS meter thinking that would tell me the hardness of my water. That was a fairly significant mistake because in thinking that my water was harder than it really was caused me to oversize my water softener. Granted, we are a family of 7, soon to be 8 and our water consumption will be increasing over the next 10 years, but I still would have liked to size it better and not be oversized. Other than that, the main complaint I have is that it can be a bit tricky to understand how to program the meter. It is not really intuitive and it took me a little bit to figure out that when I was doing the settings, I wasn't exiting the "edit mode" and everything just kept getting reset. Once I finally pulled up the programming video on Youtube that made a difference, but I still feel like it isn't totally user friendly when programming. I feel like I need a cheat sheet stored down with the softener so I can more easily know what I have to do if I ever have to re-do the programming. In terms of installation, I paid a plumber to install this for me and everything went pretty smoothly. He was diligent to read the instructions provided and everything seems to be perfect. For me, the install was a little over $500, so make sure you plan for that cost. I had Culligan and Kinetico come give me estimates and bother were $3000+ (Softener + installation), and I ended up being less than 1/2 of that. Lastly, regarding shipping... The resin tank, salt tank and the extra resin all ship separately. I received all of these about a week apart and had to contact the seller to find out what happened to the rest of the order since Amazon only gave me one tracking number. Be aware that the resin tank comes pre-installed with some resin (presumably about 2 cu ft for the 80k grain model) and being that the shippers don't keep it upright there is some risk that the resin and gravel at the bottom of the resin tank can get mixed or shifted. This didn't affect mine, but I was warned by my plumber of that possible issue. My box for the resin tank was pretty dinged up too, but fortunately it didn't damage the tank itself. All-in-all this softener has worked well for me. I'm seeing hardness go from about 15 gpg to 1.5 gpg and haven't really noticed any drop in water pressure although I haven't measured it specifically. Something I didn't think about in getting a softener is that the taste of water changes when the hardness is replaced with sodium. It was more noticeable just after installation and has gotten better now that it has been in use a while and we're probably more accustomed to it. That being said, you may want to either get a RO system or even just bypass the softener for drinking water. ... show more

  • This is a high quality Softener for a very reduced price.
Size: 32,000 Color: Black
This is a great product for the money, Do NOT get one of those salesmen water softeners, they want thousands of dollars for the same benefit. We have had our water softener for about 5 months and it is working great. Dishes are spotless, skin and hair feels much better. The biggest surprise is how much softer our hair feels, it's amazing. I did my own plumbing and created a french drain outside. Total spent for everything was around $1200. The 2 bids I received where for $7600 and $4200. Very happy we did it ourselves, everything was done correctly and the water softener is inside in the storage room right next to the water heater. The other guys wanted to put it outside in a small shed. I added my own bypass system using 3 shutoff values, so disconnecting this water softener is seamless. Having my own bypass allows us to bypass the water softening process while we using our outside Bibs to water plants and add water to our fish pond. The guy selling the $7600 system had no idea how I would use my 4 outside bibs to go back to hard water for this purpose of adding water to the fish pond or watering plants. He contacted his boss, Boss man did not even know. The $4200 system guy did know. The Flech 5600SX does come with a built in bypass in the head, but you have to keep the head on to use the bypass, to replace the system you would have to shut off your water to the entire house. The only downside is that I find I really do not like the taste of soft water - did not realize it would be so different, I guess I like my minerals for water taste? I attached a picture on my bypass and a picture of the water softener system ... show more

  • Quality product, easy to install, works great!
Size: 32,000 Color: Black
We needed to replace the failing water softener at our house. After getting quotes from $2,000 - $7,500, we looked more closely and realized that it just isn't that complicated. Swapped the unit out in less than 2 hours including reworking the piping, and now our water is completely soft again. As a bonus, this unit measures the water used and only regenerates as needed, saving salt and water. ... show more
