  • Fantastic
Love this. Got this brand to replace a prior home carbonator machine that broke. After using home carbonators for a few years this is what I love so much about this one - (1) doesn't need to be plugged in and doesn't run on batteries. You add the carbonation just by pushing down on the button. (2) you can carbonate a variety of liquids and are not limited to just water. (3) CO2 refills compatible with other brands so the refillable CO2 bottles that I had from my prior machine can still be used on this. ... show more

  • OK. Drinks lose carbonation very fast.
I really liked the fact that you could carbonate any beverage with this. It's easy to set up and use and you don't need an outlet or power to use it. But everything we've made tastes pretty flat after a few minutes. We've put A LOT of carbonation in very cold beverages to fix this and it just never lasts. Well still keep and use but wish that could be fixed. ... show more

  • start with the weird things first
Fizzed milk is disgusting-tastes like a cross between kefir & just curdled. Coffee? Interesting. Refizz the soda? Win! Fizz the Gatorade? Tasty! I honestly bought mine just because it hurts my heart to buy the cans of flavored stuff, especially if I could make my own. Got one for the kids (newish parents who should be saving their money) who waste all the money on flavored water & one for me, who also wastes all the money on flavored water. I'm glad I was old & checked C-net for reviews, because I didn't know this brand existed & it's definitely the best option for our needs. ... show more

  • Sparkle all the things!!
Bought this after reading the Wirecutter article comparing it favorably to the Sodastream, and the ability to carbonate anything sold me. Surprisingly, it said it's harder to operate than a Sodastream, but I've found it incredibly easy to operate. Have carbonated sake, negroni cocktails, wine, juices, and have threatened to carbonate almond milk. Seriously though, it seems great, it's saving us a TON of money as we were buying cans of Bubly or other brands, and lately they've gone through the roof. The ability to carbonate not just water but anything (only liquids though---they warn against carbonating something like orange juice with pulp, as it can clog the apparatus), and also not to have to carbonate a ton at a time, is a game changer in our household and also cuts down on aluminum recycling waste. ... show more

  • Solid machine
I bought a Soda Stream, which on the face of it, is much easier to get. Unfortunately, after a very short time it leaked a little. Then it leaked a lot. I wrote to the manufacturer to get help and never received a reply. I read how to fix it online, and although I have taken apart and successfully put back together a number of things, I decided against it when the last instruction said something like, "and when you remove this screw, everything that is remaining inside will fall out." So...I bought the Drink Mate and couldn't be happier. It takes one extra step of putting the fizzing gadget on the bottle, but it doesn't leak, ever. You can fizz things besides water, which is a bonus. I especially like the bottles. I put some pure cranberry juice and lime in my seltzer, and the Soda Stream bottle turned pink and couldn't be returned to clear. The Drink Mate bottles stay clear. I am very happy with the Drink Mate. ... show more

  • Much Better than Soda Stream
The back is removable allowing you to quickly attach a large commercial grade Co2 tank instead of the pricy ones. I have a 20 lb tank that costs as much to refill as the soda stream little ones at Roberts gas. Two very simple adapters are all you need for about 15 bucks and you are good to go for pennies on the dollar for carbonated water of any flavor. I use organic fruit juices and filtered water. Put in as much juice as you like for taste, for me on a half-liter bottle is about 1 part juice and four parts water, perfect flavor without all the calories and you set the amount of fizz by how many Co2 Shots you put into it. Just make sure the latch is locked before you shoot the Co2 or plan for clean up on aisle 1. ... show more

  • Fantastic carbonator
The DrinkMate lets us carbonate almost any drink (we love apple juice carbonated), but we use it mainly for carbonating filtered water from our tap. This model accepts the SodaStream 60L cartridge (about $30 per cartridge at most locations I’ve seen). We were able to carbonate about 42 liters of water per 60L cartridge at full carbonation (i.e., to the point where the pressure valve releases because the bottle is fully pressurized). We’ve since backed off and are carbonating a little less. We’ve found that 4 pulses of the carbonator is “light” carbonation and 6 to 7 seems to be equivalent to most canned or bottled soda. I had read that the SodaStream carbonators don’t add as much fizz as store-bought soda, but the DrinkMate definitely does the trick under full pressure. You’ll be wasting some of the CO2 to get that, but if you like a strong “burn”, this device will do it. Update: We've been carbonating at 6 pulses per charge, which yields nearly 80 bottles (about 68 liters) of soda—well above the rated 60L on the SodaStream cartridge. Our local Target exchanges SodaStream cartridges for about $15—nearly half of the cost of a new cartridge. ... show more

  • Customer service has ignored my last 3 attempts at contact
Wife asked me to give this a try again and buy a new unit. I did, and here we are about a month later with the same issue we had previously which is infusers just randomly popping and going bad. The spare infuser we bought is working just fine, but the one that came with the unit came DOA. I got it replaced and that one lasted 5 uses before it popped while in the unit and now fails to work. Since then I've contacted customer service 3 times and have been ignored. Until they provide an answer for failing infusers (which if you search is a known and VERY common issue) I would suggest staying away from them. If they properly help me with my issue I'll update my review, but for now I'm leaving it as a 1. ... show more
