They work. They stay on, but allow for escape by the chicken in case of leg band entrapment in vegetation or fencing. Color is brightly visible. I recommend switching to a big boy or big girl leg band (18mm) at about six weeks after hatching, or these things get very tight on the leg and will pop off as the bird grows.

I use these on my homing pigeons that I use to train bird dogs, so the bird is being moved around quite a bit and flying nearly every day. So far these bands have all stayed on. Time will tell how well they hold up, but they’re worth the money if you need to attach an identifier band to a grown pigeon. Very easy to use.

As a small time backyard chicken owner, I have very little experience so far with using poultry leg bands. But upon first impression, these are exactly what I expected them to be! A simple and basic but very functional design. The plastic is firm, yet at the same time flexible enough to either snap them closed or to raise one side enough to slide the connecting pieces together from top to bottom. I don't anticipate the bands getting damaged or falling off on their own, but if I did happen to need to replace the odd one here or there, this pack of 100 provides enough to last me a loooong time at an affordable cost. (I can say this with less than a dozen chickens). I am planning to use them to help me keep track of a few different identical looking breeds that I am raising together but don't want to get mixed up - at least until I get better at telling them apart on my own! The 16 mm bands look like they will be a nice size for the average adult chicken, although I can't speak to all breeds, especially the larger ones (my girls are standard chickens, but on the smaller side). I also have these same leg bands in an 8 mm size which is perfect for baby chicks. I am very pleased with these! And as a bonus mention, I have to add that I was also happy to count and confirm that the quantities were spot on - exactly 20 of each color, just as promised. That doesn't always happen! But depending on one's use for these, it could be an important detail. :-)
