  • Not perfect, but better than others
Color: Green
I ordered 2 sets of these 14-ice cube trays (8 trays total) in early 2022, and another set in early 2023 (after 3 of the trays ordered in 2022 had developed leaks). At this point (July, 2023) I now have 5 trays out of the original 8 with leaks. Really bad, right? But here's the thing - each tray that developed a problem did so in only one cube per tray, and in the exact same place. That cannot be a coincidence - I think there is a manufacturing defect that likely could be (maybe has been?) corrected. Holding a tray with a leak horizontal with the leaking side closest to you, it is always the second cube from the left that we found to be failed, and the failure always occurs with the green flexible silicone separating from the stiffer white plastic right along the seam between the two, usually in a corner or along the shorter edge, resulting in a relatively slow leak. As is, trying to fill and freeze such a tray creates a puddle underneath that leaking cube, which freezes below the eventually empty cube, which of course is a problem for whatever is underneath that cube. With such a flaw, you would reasonably ask why did I rate this product 4 stars? Well, compared to many other trays I have tried over decades (both metal and plastic) these do release much easier overall, and for the occasional stuck cube it is super easy to push on the flexible bottom to separate such cubes; these trays have a decent price point for what they are; the included covers prevent the ice from sublimating or absorbing odors if stored in the freezer for a long time between uses, and the covers also make stacking the trays super convenient; the size of each cube is pleasing to us, nothing too large, or small, or wierdly shaped; and finally, if the flaw that we observed does occur, it only seems to affect 1/14th of the functionality of each such tray, and as such can be dealt with fairly easily. What I have done (after a tray starts leaking in the described manner), is just rip the green flexible bottom off the flawed cube (and to repeat, so far, that has always been just one cube per affected tray, second from the left with the leaky side held closest to you). Of course, with one cube now completely lacking a bottom you can only freeze 13 cubes for that tray, but at least it empties immediately upon filling, and thus is still usable (with no slowly forming puddles freezing on items below such trays), with minor loss of capacity. When we noticed the first leak, I thought it might be due to twisting a tray more then we should have in order to remove the cubes, but that was still a puzzle because we had been reasonably careful not to overdo anything in that regard. Since then, we have been especially careful when removing cubes, yet over time still got 4 more trays that failed in the same way. FWIW, at that point we also started to double check not to overfill (leaving the water 1/16" to 1/8" below the cover), and we also started leaving trays on the counter for a minute or so before removing any cubes. For us the latter makes all of the cubes in a tray separate even easier than they did previously, and perhaps doing these two things also helps avoid damage. That is, I don't recall any additional failures since adopting this practice, which takes no real effort nor does it consume extra time for us, because we always remove all frozen trays at once, transferring all cubes into gallon freezer bags for instant availability when needed. We only refill and re-freeze all of the empty trays when convenient, once the bagged cubes get sufficiently used. Honestly, I do not know if all failures were in the initial lot purchased, or if they occurred in trays from both purchases, but I do know the failures, at least so far, have all occurred before the two changes above that we made to our fill / removal practice. On the whole, while acknowledging that individual trays may develope a leak, it seems to be limited in extent and occurs in a predictable place, at least to date. That flaw can be worked around by simply abandoning one cube of functionality per affected tray. The trays that did not leak (and remaining cubes of trays that did leak) worked well enough IMO to justify an overall good rating for the reasons given. If you decide to buy these, using described practices may help you to avoid the limited failures that we experienced. ... show more

  • Super(b) Ice Tray Maker. Full 5 star review below.
Color: Green
About 8 months ago my refrigerator ice maker was having problems. The frig. was quite high quality, but not it's ice maker, since the freezer temperature is controlled by the freezing compartments that are in the lower half of the frig., while the upper half, is for standard food & fluids, which is always set below freezing. However, the upper part of the frig., unfortunately also contains the "ice receptacle maker" which also delivers the cubes on demand. The freezing air it needs is blown into the upper frig. compartment ice maker from a freezing compartment in its lower half. After some 6 years of use, the frig. ice maker was giving me problems, since lower temperature, humid air was leaking into this compartment from the less than perfectly designed, silicone rubber side walls, that leads to much ice forming in the ice maker freezing component itself. I tried to fix this problem, but eventually the ice maker no longer made ice cubes. However, the dispenser tray still worked perfectly well- it just needed ice cubes. Voila! I found that I could fill the working frig. dispenser tray with ice cubes, made first, in an area of the lower freezer compartment. At first, I purchased an ice cube making tray set that could make up to about 70 smallish ice cubes, but they were difficult to get out of their single tray, due to the fact, that the entire ice maker tray was made of solid plastic, and some to many of the ice-cubes were difficult to release easily. So, I went back to Amazon & found another ice cube tray maker, that many readers were quite happy with. So about 6 months ago I purchased the above 4 tray set that is being reviewed herein. It turned out that this set is superbly designed, very easy to use, still functions 100% well, with no breakage of any plastic parts (but I do handle the parts. particularly the thin tray covers with care). Each single tray (of 4 such trays) makes 14 medium sized ice cubes x4 trays overall = 56 cubes in total. It takes about 800 cc to fill the 4 empty trays. What is so superb about these trays, is if you use them correctly, the ice-cubes are very, very easy to remove quickly. To re-fill them again with water for refreezing, takes only a couple of minutes. Their most important component of this ice making tray, is that the bottom of each cube compartment, is made of soft & pliable silicone rubber. Now, this is how I suggest using this set to optimize their function: 1) remove the trays from the frig. freezer compartment and bring them close to the kitchen sink; 2) then run for 2-3 seconds some hot water over the cover of the first tray; 3) then turn over to its bottom silicone side and run some hot water over the entire silicone area of 14 cubes; 4) then place the tray over a large enough receptacle (about 12x8"x2" in size) & twist the tray slightly to at most moderately, after which most, if not all, the cubes will fall into the receptacle; 5) turn over the tray, and if any cubes are left, simply push with a finger on the silicone rubber base to dislodge the remaining cube(s); 6) repeat this procedure for the remaining trays that you decide to use (my needs are for only 3 trays at a time, not four, since my frig. tray only holds 3 trays of cubes before over-fill); 7) next, put the ice cubes into the Frig. ice holder bin and place it back into its frig. bin compartment ASAP, to minimize ice cube melting; 8) refill your empty ice trays with your liquid of choice-- typically plain water. One last item-- The refilling of the trays with water. For this, I found an excellent item from from the "JOIE" Company, which is a 500 cc red & clear measuring cup (with cc and oz markings) that dispenses the water into the trays cube-slots easily and quickly. Fill each cube space to within 1-2 mm from the top of the tray to compensate for expansion of the volume of water after freezing. Hope you will enjoy using these excellently designed & practical ice tray makers, as much as I have, with several months of continuous use, without any damage to date. ... show more

These ice trays are easy to use! I will not ever use my old ice cube trays. They can be stacked well. It is very easy to get the cubes out. Just leave them out on a counter for a few minutes and it is very simple to release the cubes. I do make sure not to overfill. A great replacement for old trays when you need more ice. ... show more

  • Works
Color: Green
This was my first time trying silicone anything with kitchenware and I was skeptical. But it really does work. Ice comes out cleanly and easily without making a mess or breaking into shards. No need for twisting or running it under hot water either. Takes up less space in my freezer than typical ice trays. I’ve only had them for a few weeks so I can’t speak to durability but being that I’m not having to twist them or bang them on the counter or running them under hot water I don’t expect to have problems with breaking or cracking. ... show more

  • Does The Job
Color: Green
My kitchen frig/freezer is not working properly so even if the ice maker was working it's not cold enough to make ice cubes but I do have a garage frig but needed ice cube trays. I got these because they were silicone so removal of cubes would be easier plus they had lids. I read the instructions but taking off the lids for the 1st use resulted in a strip of a tray tearing away but the tray itself can still hold water. I put the lids on for stacking the 4 trays but don't seal them closed because I don't want to chance a struggle opening the lids. The lids don't appear that sturdy. As they mention you can pop out individual cubes if you want by pressing on the bottom of each cube in the tray. So these do the job & are okay enough. The delivery was right on time. ... show more

  • Does what it says!
Color: Green
Unlike most ice trays that break when you use them over time, these don't snap when you twist them to get the ice out of the tray. Making them out of silicone really makes a difference compared to the usual plastic trays. The lids also makes a great addition because now you can stack your trays on top of each other and protect your ice cubes as well!!! ... show more

  • The Best Ever
Color: Light Blue
I am the ice maker in our family. I have tried every gimmick for making ice. Many different ice trays, small ice balls, large ice balls, and more. These trays are absolutely the best. Why? 1. Easy to Remove - The ice cubes fall effortlessly from the tray. 2. No Sublimation - You may be asking - What is sublimation? This is where the ice cube slowly shrinks as it changes from a solid to a gas, and skips the liquid phase. This why you get frost build up on the inside of a freezer. You have heard of the term "freezer burn." This is why frozen items eventually dry out in the freezer. With these ice trays there is a cover over each ice tray that slows the shrinkage or sublimation. 3. Aesthetically Pleasing - These trays are a work of art, they look sweet! They feel good to the hand. In case you can't tell, I love them! ... show more
