As a solo traveler, this device provided a little extra security and was not complicated to use after I figured out what I was doing wrong. Basically slide the foot under the door and press the back vertical piece at the hinge so that it’s flush against the door, then screw down tight. The foot doesn’t need to be perfectly flat to work. Traveling in Italy for 3 weeks last year and Portugal recently for two weeks (different hotels every 2 days) only one hotel could not use this device since the door bottom was flush with the floor. It worked on wood and carpet. During my stay, I’ve had maintenance knocking on my door and other hotel workers. This just helps with making me more at ease along with a do not disturb sign.

It’s a little heavy, but you want it to be, right? Anything lighter wouldn’t be sturdy enough. It’s nice and small, so it doesn’t take up much space in your bag. The efficacy determines the circumstances! This would not work on my front door bc there is a 2 inch ledge that this could not fit. However, it works great on my back door. You have to position it correctly and twist the lock all the way down to where it's tight. It does work very well - I could not open the door without it being compromised. However, we use this door somewhat often and it's a pain to constantly untwist and reposition when we leave and at night. That's something to keep in mind. In my experience, it's best for traveling (knowing it won't work in every circumstance) and for doors that you don't frequently go through. This is great while we wait for our security door.

It's small, yet beefy - it was able to visibly lift the door in its frame as I tightened the screw. I can only imagine what the XL version of this thing might do! It's easy to install and has spacers available for use if the gap between the door and jamb is too large. I didn't do a kick test - the hotels I stayed in probably would've protested, and the vendor's website has some convincing videos posted. To insure against someone else doing that I paired this with one of the two other styles of lock from other vendors. This is the only one I was able to use for doors between adjacent rooms. All three - this one, B0B8MP69KX, and B0BJJV6H5R - weigh about two pounds together. They might be an easy and useful addition to your 'travel kit' whenever a hotel stay is on the itinerary. I think it's a good idea to have something else as a backup for a different reason - this (and both options I used) doesn't work with all doors, but I was able to use at least two everywhere I went. Out l of the three, this was the most versatile: there was only one location on our recent 18-day road trip where I couldn't use this - there was NO gap under the door.

Nice idea but hopefully this is more of a prototype for an upcoming new and improved version. This cannot be used in any community in door in America. I’ve tried it in the front door, kitchen door and bedroom doors but it does not work anywhere. Tried it in a hotel room door and nothing. It does not slide under nor does it hold and stay in place. Don’t waste your money.

I picked up the DJ3 Portable Door Lock Brace back in August 2024, and let me tell you, this little gadget has become my ultimate travel buddy. It’s the best thing to happen to my peace of mind since I discovered noise-canceling headphones on a long-haul flight full of crying babies. First of all, the installation is so easy, even I could do it without consulting YouTube. Seriously, it’s like the IKEA of door locks—minus the confusing instructions and leftover screws. You just pop it under the door handle, and voilà, instant fortress mode activated! I felt like a secret agent securing my hotel room, ready to take on the world (or at least the room service delivery guy). This lock brace is compact enough to fit in my carry-on, sandwiched between my travel snacks and that novel I swear I’ll finish someday. It’s like carrying a tiny bouncer with you, ready to stand guard at any door.
