This Dewalt pole hedge trimmer works great. Able to reach high branches and bushes. Blades are very sharp, and have no issues cutting. Battery last very long time. Only issue I have is the trimmer is wobbly when you fully extended.

Update: Raising the rating to 4 stars. I really like this tool. Still concerned with its durability but so far so good. Does the job well that it was designed for. I needed a pole hedge trimmer and was going to buy a Stihl electric one since all of my other power equipment is Stihl and it is awesome equipment because it is so rugged and reliable. However, when I saw this trimmer and saw that it used the same battery pack as my Dewalt Power tools, I decided to minimize having different batteries and chargers and get the Dewalt one. This trimmer has some really nice features. It has a good run time using the supplied 4 amp hour battery. The adjustable angle hedger is a really nice feature. Overall first time I used it I was pleased with its performance. It worked really well for light hedging. Does not have the power for heavy duty cutting of larger branches. I am concerned with its long term durability. The angle adjustment device is plastic, and I am concerned with its long term durability because it is loose and just feels flimsy. Overall, this trimmer feels like something Black and Decker would design and does not appear to be nearly as rugged as Dewalt equipment used to be. I also found the safety switch on the trigger to be completely annoying and totally unnecessary and broke it off. Even though the owners manual did not mention it (that I could find) but you should spray hedger blades with WD 40 before you use them each time. This hedger could have been made twice as powerful if they would have designed it to use two 20Volt batteries in series for a 40 Volt system instead of a 20 Volt system. ... show more

For me, I’m at 160 lbs male. Pretty good shape. This tool is just a little too heavy for me. The blade isn’t long enough to reach to the back. Still have to use the ladder. I like the 24 inch blade trimmer, electrical better. If I’m going to be using a ladder, I may as well use the tool that is easier to use. ... show more

Pole is NOT Extendable & Trimmer Head Pivot Joint Seems Weak; time will tell if it'll last. I'm 6'2" / 190lbs and standing on the ground this will not cut a 12' high flat top on a bush as advertised. Maybe if you hold it with your arms fully extended, which will blowout your rotator cuff, and it's unsustainable for long-term usage. It'll barely cut a 12' high flat top on a bush when I stand on my 3' Podium Step Ladder, and I wouldn't say that's comfortable to use like that either. I'd say if you have a 6' Podium Step Ladder 12' flat top cut would probably be attainable in long-term use. This unit came w/3-LED Fuel Gauge on the battery (it charges on the DCB107 charger that came with my DeWalt drill, so I don't need two separate chargers). It comes with a harness that's a huge benefit no matter how you're using it and it has a plastic protective cover for the blades. It cuts pretty good and battery life is more than adequate for what I need. It'll handles "okay" 3/8"-to-1/2" diameter stalks on my Orange Jubilee/Yellow Bell vine plants (I wouldn't want to try to cut anything much bigger). The specs say and I read a review that said it'd cut 1", which isn't even possible since 1" diameter stalks won't even fit into the opening of the blade; 3/4" diameter would fit and I question if cutting material that size is sustainable long-term. ... show more

As others pointed out, this is not 12 ft long, and that's probably a good thing. It's close to 7' tip to tip. The ad is also not very clear because the length is fixed, not "extendable". Fully extended height depends on how tall you are and how high you can lift it. This tool replaced my Craftsman gas trimmer. It is lighter and easier to handle and I can reach higher and deeper than I could before. It also cuts thicker branches and the battery lasts longer than I do. I looked at many online and I think this is a solid choice. Besides the high quality of the DeWalt brand, some features to compare with others are 22" cutting blades, 1" max branch diameter, and 4 AH battery. I haven't found others that can match these specs. Unless you really want to buy something cheaper, you can't go wrong with this. ... show more

    • Died on second day of use
The trimmer worked great the first day, cut thru branches like a hot knife in butter. However the next day, it ran for a few seconds then shut off. I never got it to run longer then 5 seconds so I returned it. The pole was very unbalanced and wobbled a lot. It took 3 weeks to get my refund.
