Background: As a homeowner with a large yard I’ve generally standardized on Makita tools for my home needs. Over the years I have a acquired a dozen or so tools based on their 18v batteries. All good, but, they don’t offer everything i like or need, which brings me to the Sun Joe products. I mentioned the Makita tooling simply to make the point that I prefer to own generally well built and reliable tools that sometimes cost more than the average offering. Because at the time of my purchase Makita didn’t offer an extension pole limb saw I decided to take a chance and purchased one from Sun Joe. I honestly expected it to last a season then end up in the trash. Surprisingly its turned out to be quite rugged. I still have it and use it routinely after 20 year of ownership. Consumable parts like the mini-chain are easy to find. Purchase Decision: That limb saw experience made me more comfortable with the purchase of this battery powered hedge trimmer. Yes, I selected it because of the positive experience with the limb saw, but also due to this trimmer being less expensive and having better functionality than anything battery operated unit from Makita. Results: I just used it to do a heavy trim on some overgrown jasmine vines climbing along some field fencing. I’m impressed with my initial results; the battery provided more than enough juice to trim both sides of a 40’ fence of vines with 2 of 3 green charge lights remaining when done. And, very surprisingly given this operated by a single 24 volt battery, the trimmer managed to cut thru the field fencing wiring when I accidentally hit it. The blades appear to worse for the wear. To cord or not to cord: As mentioned, I didn’t struggle with the decision to settle on this brand. But I did struggle a bit with the decision to go cordless. I’m happy that I went cordless now that I’ve used it. Conclusion: My expectations have been exceeded. Something I don’t say all that often which is what prompted me to leave this feedback. I hope this helps you with the decision too. Note that I’m just a regular homeowner offering my experience. I’ve not been paid by anyone to say or do anything. Happy trimming! ... show more

I will begin my review with two complaints, albeit small ones, but still complaints. As noted by several others in their reviews, my package likewise arrived damaged. The box was crushed at one end. It was poorly taped and one end flap was dangling. I too thought I had received either a returned item or a reconditioned one. Upon opening the box, I found the contents to be new and undamaged. The battery and its charger were in factory sealed boxes.The clipper did not have a mark or scrath on it. Obviously this was shipping problem. I believe to save money and lower costs, Sun Joe eliminated using styrofoam to support and cushion the contents while in transit. Maybe that should be rethought. Complaint two. Amazon's website stated that Amazon was both the seller and shipper of the item. This gave me the impression the item was in an Amazon warehouse. That apparently was untrue. The tracking and all the UPS labels indicated it was shipped by Sun Joe from their warehouse on the West Coast. Now the good. The color is great! Love it! It's surprising lighter than anticipated. Very easy to hold and maneuver. Noise level extremely low. Cuts evenly and did not jam once while I was pruning hedges. The battery came fully charged. The battery life is also excellent. After 45 minutes of cutting, the indicator on the battery show I still have a 50% or better charge remaining. Overall I am impressed with the product and would not hestiate to buy from Sun Joe in the future. Register the product on line and Sun Joe will add an additional 3 months. Nice touch. Also how often do you find a manufacturer offing a "no qestions asked" warranty. ... show more

I had my hedge which is 120 feet long cut way back last fall and this year it came back and I hire a professional to trim it. However I bought this to trim it in between times to hopefully keep it neat for the neighbors but also to cut down the cost of having the professional come back. I am a 70 year old female and my hedge is 4 feet tall and 36 inches wide and this is the best thing that I’ve ever bought. I can keep it clean between the master cuttings and therefore cut down on a beginning of the season and an end of the seizing cutting and I can do the rest. My wife order the SnowJoe Trimmer for herself. She got tired hauling out the extension cord for our corded trimmer. I got tired of fixin the extension cord when she cut it. She's happy. I bought this trimmer because the longer blade trimmers were just too heavy to hold up when trimming high hedges. With this shorter and lighter trimmer I have been able to tackle every bush and hedge in my yard with ease. At first I felt the trimmer seemed a little flimsy but I have used it quite a bit and it has not let me down and I have been able to complete every job Ive needed it for. The battery charges easily and there seems to be plenty of power to do all my work. I thought this trimmer was a good value and certainly beats the alternative of having to use hand sheers to trim up my lawn shrubs. ... show more

It's so light that one can hold it with one hand and it's easy to use. We have 18 round bushes to trim, each measuring about 24 inches in size, which take about 45 minutes to do, and the battery was not completely drained. Don't expect to use it to cut thick twigs because it's not designed for that, but it is certainly adequate to trim good size bushes and hedges. When I purchased this trimmer, I ordered a second battery because I didn't think that only one would allow me to complete all the trimming, but a second battery was not clearly necessary. A nice safety feature is that the blade's motion stops immediately when the switch is turned off. ... show more
