  • I should have bought a DELL in the first place!
I use this in a small office - but it gets plenty of use. I bought a different laser printer a month ago and it was mess! UGH. I returned it and got this DELL. I am SO HAPPY that I did. Setup: It is easy to set up and works immediately, first time. Print double-sided and MUCH faster than I expected. I cannot name the other laser I tried but trust me, it was a Huge Problem! This DELL is GREAT! It has made my life at work much easier - I don't have time to fuss with my technology - I have work to do. I've only had it about 2-3 weeks but I have done tons of printing on it already without a hiccup. If it acts up I'll post an update - but don't hold your breath - I don't think you're going to be hearing from me again. OH, I should have said, (duh) the print quality is high quality. I have only printed a few photos and images so far but I am entirely happy with the quality (and speed) of the pages with high resolution photos and other images. I should have bought DELL in the first place. Printers that don't work? Ain't nobody got time for that! - Here's a picture of my dog - why is he smiling? Because now I can quit messing with technology and spent more time with my pup! ... show more

  • + Very easy to set up on Windows 7 pro as a ...
+ Very easy to set up on Windows 7 pro as a networked (ethernet) printer. There is a very comprehensive web browser interface that responds quickly. This model prints much faster than my previous Dell laser printer and produces double-sided prints automatically with no need to manually re-load the paper. The toner costs are reasonable, if you are prepared to buy compatibles rather than Dell OEM. Make sure you get the extra high capacity 4,000 page ones. Bad Points− This printer is large and heavy, but to be fair it is aimed at office networks rather than home users, and its size reflects its speed and duplex ability. If you are going to allow space to access all the doors, it will need a desk of its own. However, both paper and toner load in the front and the other doors do not need frequent access. ... show more

  • Bad printing on multiple prints with any dense toner patches
I have had two of these printers. I bought the second one because I had a bunch of toner replacement cartridges and the first one stopped communicating with my computer. Both printers had to be "babied" with very troublesome work-arounds. If I try to print more than about 5 or 6 copies of anything with heavy toner coverage (even in one spot), the printer smears, ghosts, and generally makes a mess of the copies. I will limp thru my remaining cartridges then replace this printer with another brand. If I'd gotten only one with these problems, I could chalk it up to a lemon but 2 in a row is more than a coincidence. I suppose if you have lots of time and patience, and want to baby a printer, this model might work for you. But if you value your time, I'd certainly NOT recommend this printer. I'm a mechanical engineer and appreciate everything that went into designing and manufacturing this printer, this thing seem very well made and for the most part and except for bad printing, works well, i.e., good feeding and duplex printing. However, no mater how well the rest of the thing is made and/or works, if the copies are bad, that's the bottom line and they are frequently bad. This is especially troublesome for me as I'm often printing on expensive paper, i.e., $0.25/sheet and when this printer starts printing bad copies, it wastes not only my time but a fair amount of money. I've tried OEM toner cartridges and aftermarket toner. Both are equal in their printing of bad pages. ... show more

  • TOO BIG!
I was surprised and disappointed at its size. If it did not cost so much to ship I would return it. Trying to sell on eBay for local pick up only so I do not have to pay for shipping.

  • Fast and inexpensive to operate (If you get non-oem toner cartridges)
Fast and inexpensive to operate. The print quality is excellent and it seems fairly well-made. This is a re-branded older-model, well-established, Toshiba (I believe) that has been around a while, meaning that the security chips that are in the cartridges aren't as sophisticated as some of the newer ones, and aftermarket providers have had time to reproduce the chips and make high-quality replacement cartridges at a fraction of the cost of what Dell wants. Don't be conned into thinking they aren't as good and that they will void your warranty. Hypothetically, let's say you bought this printer and that the non-oem toner you got was not as good and caused a problem with the printer after five years that was not repairable and you had to replace it. In those 5 years you would have saved several hundred dollars; enough to buy several of this printer over again. Who needs a warranty? Oh, and I liked this printer so much I assisted my brother in getting two of them. One for his home and one for his office. ... show more

  • It lasted just 18 Months
It lasted just 18 months! First the good. The printer was 5 stars for that 18 months. Nice print quality, nice speed great solid printer. Then a printer cartridge was not recognized. Then it was, then it wasn’t, then it was. Next came replace waste toner container. When I did that the black cartridge and drum error came up stating they were not seated correctly. Took them out, put them back in nothing, did it again, nothing the third time the error went away. Printed a few times and now the error is back. I had a dell color laser printer I purchased somewhere around 2003. That thing was a pure work horse. Thousands and thousands of sheets ran through it. Dell used to stand for something. Dells quality has definately dropped. Do they not understand that now I will need to replace this printer but not with a dell. Hope this helped I am off to read about oki’s, cannons and brothers. Let the research begin. ... show more
