We have to cut an opening in the glass first and then assemble the aluminum part with the glass. Those two factors leave a smaller opening. We selected the largest diameter aluminum part available on the market in the highest quality. There are larger opening metal parts available, but they are not made of aluminum and are difficult to install, and would cut your hand. Secondly, the glass globe is quite large. We tried using E-12 bulbs and sockets (we all know that E12 bulbs are normally smaller) but they won't light up the full globe shade and leave a lot more shadow on the bottom of the globe, which is unacceptable to most customers.
