  • Works Great, Using for Outdoor Adventures
Size: 12 Inch
I have a large collection of Lodge cast iron cookware that I have had for years - they have stood up to the test of time and I'm a faithful customer of theirs. So, I was a little unsure of getting another brand since I wasn't sure what to expect. I bought this skillet to use when we go camping or tailgating since I don't want to use my Lodge skillets on an open flame. I gave this skillet a test run in my kitchen and I'm pleased with it. The main difference I noticed was that it is more lightweight, which means it heats up faster since the cast iron is a bit thinner - but not by much. It cooks nicely - just heat it up low and slow until it's hot. It cleans just as you do a cast iron skillet. I love the feature of having dual pour spouts, and that it comes with 2 silicone handles. Overall, this is a nice cast iron skillet for the price point - and it's going to work great for using on our outdoor adventures. ... show more

  • 8" is Nice. Love the Insulated Grips. May Need a Little More 'Seasoning'. Not Too Heavy.
Size: 8 Inch
Requested the 8" version and I love it. Appears to be well made and has an initial 'seasoning' applied. Seasoning on cast iron cookware acts as a natural non-stick surface which is a nice thing about cast iron. Another advantage of this cookware is it heats very evenly. First task was to try and cook something that normally presents a big sticking problem to see exactly how well this is 'seasoned' out of the box. First up was to lightly wash and dry. Then heated up on the stove for around 10 minutes to just below medium heat. Task at hand is to cook 3 eggs. Let me say this skillet is the ideal size for this serving portion. Applied a little butter and allowed to heat up to temperature and dropped in 3 eggs. On flip notice there was some of the egg sticking to the surface but not too bad. Applied cheese as an extra which is normally another menace for sticking. End result was only mild sticking and very even cooking across all the eggs. Aside from the mild sticking in the skillet this worked very well. Yes, it did leave some residue of the egg on the bottom of the skillet. Additional 'seasoning' will be needed but in the end that's just what will have to be done and I have all confidence this will provide the degree of non-stick I'm looking for. As I mentioned in the headline this is the perfect weight for cooking single meals in the kitchen. Dragging out my 12" cast iron skillet is really more trouble that it's worth. With this I'll likely cook a lot more of my meals using it. The vendor also provides some silicone grips which work well and feel secure in hand. There is no substitute for cast iron to get a good sear on things like steaks or hamburgers when I choose to cook inside. I love it. ... show more

  • A great cast iron skillet
Size: 12 Inch
A cast iron skillet is a must for any kitchen. A good cast iron skillet, like this one, is versatile. It can be used to sear meats, bake cornbread, pan cookies and, on an outside grill, blacken steaks and meats. As the note I have included in the last photo shows, this is a cast iron skillet that is made by craftspeople who are about their work. The skillet comes seasoned. They include silicon grips that you can attach to the pan if you remove it from a burner or the oven. As the photo shows, I used the skillet immediately after I got it. I used a small amount of canola oil to cook the pounded chicken breast in the photo. Cast iron cooks faster and sears meat in a way that non-stick pans do not. I am very happy with this pan and I do not doubt that it will last for the rest of my life and will be passed on to my family. I hope that this review and the photos are useful to you. ... show more

  • Just what I was looking for
Size: 12 Inch
I like cooking my steaks in a cast iron pan that I can sear the sides, then throw it in the oven to finish getting to the doneness that I like. This works perfectly for my needs. I have a smaller 10 inch one that works great for 2 steaks, but I wanted something bigger. This can fit 3 good sized steaks in with plenty of room. The protective handles are good for pulling the pan out of the oven when it is done cooking. It says preseasoned but I never take a chance and I always season the cast iron before I use it the first time. surprisingly there wasn't much to do with it, and I didn't have to worry about grit and contaminants from the manufacturing process. If I need to get another pan I know where I am looking first. ... show more

  • A bit of an outlier in our kitchen
Size: 12 Inch
We’re still getting the hang of using this skillet, despite using it a few times a week for the last few weeks. I think perhaps this type was talked up a bit too much and we really expected more from it. This isn’t nearly as ‘non-stick’ as our coated pans, which we learned with our mushrooms that immediately stuck. The washing method isn’t in our routine, and seasoning a pan is even more out of it. Looking up the care instructions in general is overwhelming, to say the least. Salt paste? Use soap, don’t use soap, it’s all a bit confusing. We do like it, but I think more than anything there is a learning curve and it will take us a while to… warm up to it. We haven’t had any issues using it on our glass top stove. We are careful, but I think that it’s so heavy helps to instantly remind us that we can’t and shouldn’t bang it or slide it around. The silicone grips are necessary and feel tough enough, though an extra set would have been helpful as I expect the pan to last longer than the grips. The pan heats up very evenly compared to our other pans. We also like that it lacks the coating that may or may not be bad for our health. So while we’re very experienced in the kitchen, perhaps we’re also stuck in our ways. We genuinely expected this not to stick, much like our coated pans. We expected to be able to have clear direction with cleaning without mixed messages. We do like it, but so far it still hasn’t revealed all of its mysteries. The even cooking is definitely winning us over, I just hope our adopted skillet is getting the care and attention it needs to live a long life. ... show more
