  • "Move Over Epson, There's a New Sheriff in Town!" (4.5ish Stars)
Style: DBOX02
Alright, buckle up, because I've got a projector tale to tell. For years, I rocked an LCD Epson that served me well, until the day it started bleeding colors like a wounded rainbow. Turns out, LCDs and heat don't mix, and fixing it would've cost more than a new one. Thus began my quest for the perfect projector! Now, I use my projector as my main TV. No joke, I haven't owned an actual TV in ages. I love the minimalist look of a blank wall when it's not in use, and my projector lives like a ninja, tucked away in a small cabinet. So, I needed something compact, lightweight, but still professional enough to handle movie nights, gaming marathons, and the occasional epic slideshow of my cat. (Don't judge.) I have a tiny, less-bright projector for travel, so this one stays put. After an epic amount of research, I landed on this DBOX02. It was the Goldilocks of projectors – just the right size, super compact (smaller than my old Epson!), and it even has 3D! I don't use it often, but hey, it's there if I suddenly crave some Avatar action. And the best part? It's ACTUAL 4K, not that faux-K nonsense. This thing is SUPER FKN BRIGHT! Seriously, it could illuminate a small stadium! I have to use Eco mode or lower, otherwise the whites are so intense they might burn my retinas. But hey, if you want to watch movies with the windows wide open, this is your champion. No worries though, you can easily dial down the brightness if needed. And get this, it's whisper-quiet, especially in Eco mode. This is a big deal for me because, remember, it lives in a cabinet above my head. The last thing I need is a whirring engine competing with my surround sound. This projector? Silent as a ninja in a library. Plus, it keeps it cool as a cucumber in its little hidey-hole. Now, let's talk price. I snagged this beauty on Black Friday for around $1300. Way worth it in my book. It future-proofs my setup and works like a dream with my PS5. It was priced similarly to its competitors but packed more features. Sure, it's not a big-name brand, but I took a chance on a lesser-known brand and scored big time! (I was fully prepared to return it if it was a dud, but thankfully, it wasn't.) Okay, now for the (minor) cons. There's a bit of light leak around the image, meaning it spills over the edges of my screen slightly. The image itself fits perfectly, but for a perfectionist like me, it's a tad annoying. It's not like it's projecting onto my neighbor's house or anything, so I'm willing to sacrifice that for the stunning image quality. Another thing: you might want to grab the swivel stand. The legs on the bottom don't adjust like the instructions show. Maybe that was only a feature in the first version, but if you need to tilt the projector up or down, you'll need that stand. It adds a bit of bulk, but luckily, my cabinet has more room than a clown car, so it still fit! Here's the kicker: out of the box, the picture settings are AWFUL. It's like they cranked up every artificial enhancement imaginable. Motion smoothing? Check. Interpolation? Double-check. It makes everything look like a sped-up soap opera from the '80s. Trust me, I'm a cinematographer – turn ALL that stuff off! The only reason to keep those settings is if you ONLY watch sports. (And seriously, I change this setting in every friend's house I visit. It's a pet peeve, I know. 😅) My advice? Put it in "movie" mode, adjust your brightness (custom mode), and turn off ALL other settings except for HD mode (obviously). Once you do that, this projector looks like... well, a thousand bucks! Seriously, it's a game-changer. I never thought I'd be able to afford a laser projector at this price point. If you're on the fence, jump off and grab this projector! You won't regret it. 4.5 stars! ... show more

  • Spectacular Picture Quality and Great Features
Style: DBOX02
If you're seriously considering purchasing a laser projector, then you should read this entire review to make an informed decision. It's my first time ever that I'm writing a product review. And I must also say that I was not offered any promotional purchase to write this review. So, let's start: First of all, if you're interested in a 3D projector, then it's not for you. It does have a 3D feature, but it's of poor quality. See details towards the end of this review. I rated this product based on my interest in purchasing a 4K laser projector. I already have an Epson 3D 1080p projector since 2009 which is great for 3D movies. As of now, 3D movies are not played as 4K, those are 1080p. So, Epson serves me well. Now, let me give you my rating for each feature: Startup * * * * * Picture Quality * * * * * Brightness * * * * * Audio Quality * * * * * Auto Focus * * * * * Keystone Correction * * * * Streaming * * * * * Documentation * Customer Support * * * * * Pros: 1. This projector has amazing picture quality and brightness. It's quite superior to that of my Epson projector. The picture is very crisp which is expected from a 4K laser projector. 2. Additional features like auto focus and auto keystone correction are great. There can be some improvement though. It was nice to know that these features can be adjusted manually for fine tuning. 3. The audio quality (the sound from projector) is also impressive. 4. The other good thing is having many streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Hulu, and Disney+ all installed in one place. You don't need a separate streaming device for this purpose. I watched a few movies over Netflix and Prime Video without any issue at all. 5. In response to my queries, the customer support provided me the following information which you may also find very helpful as it's neither available on their website nor in their manual: " - 12-month Warranty: We offer a 1-year warranty service. If the product encounters any quality issues under normal use, we will provide free repair or replacement services. - Lifetime Technical Support: At any time after your purchase, you can always contact our technical support team. We are committed to providing you with professional technical support and assistance. - DBOX02 is a DLP projector using ALPD 2.0 laser as the light source. It does not use a lamp. - The life span of the light source is 30,000 hours. - As it is a completely enclosed projector, it doesn't need complex maintenance effort. " However, at this point in time, I cannot verify any of this. So, I've given you what I was told. Cons: 1. The documentation is poor. It does not describe the features like how to fine tune the auto focus or keystone correction manually. So, you have to experiment with those things on your own. If I may suggest to the supplier, providing a detailed manual in print or digitally can improve their sales and reduce returns significantly IMO. 2. I have a Marantz AV SR 7008 9.2 channel receiver set up for the surround sound. When I hooked it up with this projector, I couldn't get the sound of movies being streamed on the projector through the receiver. I tried both ports of the projector (HDMI eArc as well as HDMI In) without any luck. The customer support worked with me very patiently for about two weeks, but the issue could not be fixed. They claimed that the projector was working fine with a Denon's receiver on their end. So, it's possible that there is some incompatibility of my receiver with the projector. Luckily, for me that was not a big issue as I watch movies usually on my 4K player which also has the streaming apps. So, the sound goes to the receiver and the video to the projector (through the receiver), and everything is fine then. 3. The 3D quality is poor. Note that you need to buy 3D glasses separately. First, I thought the 3D glasses that came with my Epson projector could work but they didn't. The seller sent me two pairs of 3D glasses as a courtesy which I appreciate but the picture quality is not good at all. Further, you have to change to the 3D setting in the software manually every time you want to watch a 3D movie which is a hassle. The software should be able to detect that a 3D movie is being played and switch to the 3D mode. Bottom Line: If you don't want to watch 3D movies, this projector is for you. This projector has a very crisp, bright picture and very cool features like auto focus and auto keystone correction. If you have a surround sound system with more than 5.1 channels, then you should have a Blu-ray / 4K player to enjoy movies in a full surround sound system. Considering all things together, I wanted to give this product an overall rating of 4.5. But since there is no option to select 4.5 stars, I decided to go with 5 *s due to the superb customer support that I experienced for more than 3 weeks to resolve various issues. ... show more

  • Absolutely must buy if you’re looking for a projector
Style: DBOX02
Absolutely Impressed — Bright, Clear, and Completely Worth It! I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first set up the Dangbei DBOX02 Laser Projector under my carport, but this thing blew me away. In the beginning of my video you’ll see how it looks on my 120-inch projector screen — the brightness and clarity were fantastic even outdoors. Then later in the video I point it at the side of my house, and honestly, it looks better than many indoor projectors I’ve used.* The image stays sharp and vibrant even in less-than-ideal lighting, and the colors pop in a way that makes movies and videos feel cinematic. Setup was easy and quick, and the autofocus keeps everything crisp without constantly adjusting. If you’re thinking about using this for backyard movies, outdoor gatherings, or a big screen experience without spending a fortune — this projector delivers. Plenty bright, amazingly clear, and overall just a great buy. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Happy with my decision. Happy with my decision.
Style: DBOX02
In love with this thing. I tried a few projectors claiming to have 800-1200 lumens. Returned them due to lack of brightness. Granted they were a quarter of the price. I’m using the projector in an unfinished basement with most of the lights on while I work out on a retractable 100” inexpensive white screen. I’m happy with the brightness of this projector. The picture quality is exceptional. Audio is good enough for what I do but if you’re looking for a home theatre set up, I would obviously recommend a proper home theatre audio system no matter what projector you’re using. Google tv works fine. Haven’t seen the need to connect an external streaming device. Has most apps you’d need in the google store. The fan is super quiet. I don’t hear it. The whole unit was easy to set up although Google tv can take a bit on the first boot especially if it needs to update out of the box. Once set up though, it’s straight forward and easy to use. I like the layout and the UI of Google tv and prefer it over Fire and Apple tv. No complaints. Happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Highly Recommend For Cost and Quality
Style: DBOX02
After using this projector for two weeks, I can confidently say it’s a true upgrade from my Epson 5040, which served me well for seven years! The brightness and clarity are impressive, especially considering the compact size of the projector and its lens. Content quality does make a difference, so I tested both 4K Blu-rays and digital downloads, and the improvement in image quality was unmistakable. As others have mentioned, adjusting the settings requires some patience, and navigating the menus can be a bit tedious. However, once you find the optimal settings, the picture is stunning—it even makes me wonder how much better higher-priced projectors could possibly be. That said, I do notice the "rainbow effect" fairly often. My Epson used LED technology, and I’ve avoided DLP projectors in the past due to unbearable rainbow artifacts in models I tested over a decade ago. With this projector, I still see rainbows during credits, bright scenes, and even when I blink or move my head slightly. However, I’ve gotten used to it, and it’s a small trade-off for half the cost and twice the quality. Once the system software is updated (I had to update twice to get the latest version), the 3D functionality works impressively well. With my Epson, ghosting was a frequent issue, which eventually discouraged me from watching 3D content. But this projector has revived my interest! The Dangbei brand glasses were initially confusing to set up; when I first tried them, the 3D image was reversed, with foreground objects pushed to the back. I didn’t realize that a quick press of the button on the glasses switches the left/right perspective, correcting the 3D effect. The detail is as good as you’d see in a theater. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • High End Projector For A Low End Price
Style: DBOX02
I Had A Problem With The Projector Dying After Only 2 Weeks Of Use. Customer Service Was Very Helpful And Sent Me A New One For Free After Already Returning It To Amazon. They Have Been Extremely Helpful Along The Way For Any Problems Or Questions I Have Had. So Here Is My Experience After A Month Of Using The Dangbei Mars Pro 2. The Picture Is Absolutely Fantastic In 4K For Movies, I Used It In My Backyard On A 150 Inch Screen And I Was Blown Away By The Picture. I Also Have An 83 Inch LG C2 In My Movie Room So It Takes A Lot To Impress Me These Days. They Recommend Between 80 And 120 But Honestly It Still Looked Terrific At 150. I Also Used The "Fit To Screen" Function And It Was Still Incredible. The Projector Also Has Zoom, Auto Focus And Auto Keystone, Which On A Projector In This Price Range That Is Unheard Of And They All Work Very Well Too. There Were Issues With The 3D Functions And Also The Projector Not Saving The Last Setting I Had Input After Powering Down, But They Just Came Out With A Huge Update And All Is Fixed With Those Issues Now. 3D Works Perfectly With My Sony 3D Blu-Ray Player And All Settings Save When Powering Down Then Back Up Again. It Has A Game Setting, But I Did Not Try It On This Because As I Have Said, I Have An LG C2 83 Inch So That's Where I Game. The Projector Itself Looks And Feels Very High End Too From The Packaging It Comes In To The Remote. I Also Got The Stand And The Ceiling Mount And They Are Also Very Well Made. My Conclusion Is If You Are Looking To Get A Very Good 4K Projector With All The Bells And Whistles And Not Pay $3000 Plus, This Is The One. Plus The Customer Service Is Absolutely A++ In My Experience. They Actually Care About Their Customers Which Is A Very Rare Things These Days. • Very limited placement option, but excellent customer support
Style: DBOX02
Updated 1/20/2025 Excellent customer service and support Support contacted me to try to resolve any issues I had with the projector You can buy with confidence because of their great support! Initial Review: I really wanted to like this projector because of all the positive reviews. I thought it had a lens shift. Very sleek design, and nice picture quality. But unfortunately, it does not have a lens shift, so you have very limited placement option. You either have to place it on a table or mount it on the ceiling for best results. I am using it in my bedroom, so I do not have those placement option, I need it to place the projector around mid-level to the screen. When I did that, I found out that I had to tilt the projector almost 25 degrees toward the bottom to line up the image, then I use the projector auto-image placement and auto-focus, the image was right on the screen and the picture looked good. But then I found out that it is leaking a light shadow on the side of the screen, big shadow that are clearly visible. These light shadows (top, bottom, left and right) are where the image would have been if no correction was done on the image. For me this is very distracting, and does not look good at all. Only USB 2.0, no USB 3.0. The fan noise is acceptable for standard viewing, but if you increase it to performance in the brightness option, the fan is extremely loud, like a plane taking off. You will have to have the projector very far away if you are going to use the brightness at max, in order not to hear the fan. The menu is easy to navigate and looks modern. From time to time, I experienced some lag when using the menu, even not video was playing. When you try to modify the picture/video option while watching a movie, the movie will stop and resume after you made the changes. Only exception is when using the google TV menu. The biggest deal breaker for me is the lens shift, for this reason, I am returning it and will get the viewsonic instead, which is around the same price point as this one and has a lens shift. ... show more

  • Bright, sharp, quiet, compact, cheap 4K HDR10+ and 3D projector
Style: DBOX02
I tried the first version of the Mars Pro 4K but returned it when version 2 came out a week later with 3D support, HDR10+ and 3D support. It has a great picture and is very bright for the money, although sharpness isn't quite as spot-on as my previous BenQ HT2050. I'd say the detail difference between a 1080P projector and this pixel-shifting unit is fairly marginal (I compared the HT2050 and this side by side on the same frames of a 4K movie), but the bright and almost instant-on picture and HDR10+ support is great. With the initial firmware the 3D Blu-ray support didn't work, but within two weeks they issued a firmware update that fixed that. I tested it with Prometheus 3D and it works fine. At this price level I'd say it's a great buy. NOTE: I wish they had retained the four screw-type feet of the first version of the unit. The feet unscrewed completely on that one and could be used to attach the projector to a standard ceiling mount. It was possibly an unintended functionality but worked perfectly. Version 2 replaced the feet with stick-on rubber types and now there's just the threaded center tripod mount. I had to hack my ceiling mount to make it work with that. Why?! For a buck in BOM parts? ... show more
