  • Difficulties installing, inconsistent tech support, and doesn't connect to phone anymore
Color: Black 8 core PX5 4G+64G+CPAA
I purchased two of these units and installed them in a 2007 and 2013 FJ Cruiser. They were an improvement over the stock FJ radio, but that's not saying a whole lot. The CUSP display is bright and the resolution is good. It doesn't auto switch to night mode so it blinds you at night. Quality of the physical unit and its system software are bad. Despite its octa-core processor, the UI is clunky. It definitely doesn't have the responsiveness of something like an iPad. There is a noticeable delay when navigating through the menus. Google Maps looks pretty good on the wide screen, but the unit has no magnetic sensor so it has no idea which way your car is pointing until you drive some distance. The Toppal voice assistance that comes installed is crappiest piece of garbage software I've ever used. I had to scream at the machine to try to get it to understand. It understood me about as much as someone who only speaks Chinese, maybe 10% of the words I said, but never the whole sentence. I disabled that crap. I noticed Google Assistant doesn't work much better on this device though. There is something wrong with the user interface. After I say "Hey Google", it repeatedly opens and closes the assistant screen, and it doesn't usually register what I'm saying. It's like Google Assistant is fighting with the CUSP system software, and neither one of them is winning. Overall, voice command with this system doesn't work well enough to be safe while driving. You'll have to use your finger. There are a few different configurations of the FJ Cruiser, and the instructions are totally inadequate for early FJs that came with the stock subwoofer without the JBL system. CUSP tech support was adamant this configuration does not exist, but it does. I took a week to study FJ cruiser wiring diagrams and finally figured out I had to solder a wire dangling from the CUSP-supplied harness to a wire in the FJ's own connector, because CUSP didn't feed the wire into their own connector. Fixing that connection finally allowed the Subwoofer power button in the FJ console to turn on the subwoofer. After I got the first CUSP unit installed, I found Android Auto didn't work with new Samsung Galaxy S22 phones running Android 12. When I contacted CUSP tech support, they sent me a new system software update, which I installed with the use of a thumb drive. The system recognized the software on the thumb drive and updated the system, and afterward, Android Auto worked for a little while. It even works wirelessly (though sometimes we need to use the cable when it refuses to connect wirelessly. UPDATE: Android Auto doesn't work at all anymore on either of my CUSP units, not even with a wire. Also, bluetooth doesn't work at all anymore on either unit. These are GARBAGE! The instructions are lacking to say the least. (See the photo.) There is no indication which orientation to plug in the ribbon cables into the circuit board of the unit. I think this is why some people experience buttons not working. The CUSP unit is supposed to support Bluetooth 5.0. I have been trying to contact CUSP tech support for nearly a year using multiple avenues, but they have not responded at all to this particular problem. UPDATE in 2024: Unit doesn't connect to wifi or bluettooth at all. The Settings app causes the unit to reboot when trying to configure wifi. The unit has become completely useless. I'm putting back in my original head unit from 2013. The vendor will not help at all. I think this company has dissolved since COVID and it's just a few monkeys selling the old inventory to gullible FJ owners. Octacore my octass! ... show more

  • Much better than the FJammer stock radio. Modernized an old head unit space.
Color: Black 8 core PX5 4G+64G+CPAA
I really like the system. Install wasn't hard, FJs dash is easy to disassemble and there is a lot of space behind the head unit. I did have issues getting the subwoofer to work. i always received quick responses when i asked questions to the seller. It ended up being the 12v trigger (pwr on) line. Some people moved the pin in the harness. i just cut soldered a piece of wire to the sub wire on the harness and ran it to the sub switch. The sub it just looking to see 12V. Before install i read up quite a bit on the issues people were having. The ribbon cables only work one way. if they arent working flip them over. you can look in the connector to see where the connectors are. The defroster is hard to tell if its working. it lights up when the lights are on, not when you turn it on. It still works. you just have to trust that you clicked it once to turn it on and wait for the window to defrost. I love having a screen and all the connectivity to my phone. I haven't installed the back up camera yet because i wanted a different style but i will install it soon. Also had to figure out where i wanted to mount it. now that i have a new head unit i decided to upgrade the rest of the sound system so its getting more expensive than expected; but that's on me. I also downloaded the AGAMA (sp?) app to give the screens a better look. ... show more

  • Best Head Unit for an FJ Cruiser
Color: Black 8 core PX5 4G+64G+CPAA
I love this stereo aside from the complete lack of physical buttons. I have a first run FJ so the wiring is not there to install steering wheel controls to like the later models. A great feature is that it comes with Android auto.

  • Hazzard and Defrost Buttons Do Not Work Now
Color: Black 8 core PX5 4G+64G+CPAA
The media could not be loaded. 1/22/2022 - No response from their support, but I ordered a B style ribbon cable and that resolved my Hazzard button issue. Don't know if the defrost is working. Can't remember it it lights up when you push the button. It only seems to light when running lights are on, so I think it's not. The newest discovery is the OBD2 apps will not detect the OBD2 readers. I think the version of the BT is crap. The unit does detect my phone though and my phone has no problem connecting to the OBD2 module. 1/18/2022 - The biggest problem with the unit, is your Hazzard and Defrost Buttons do not work. Reading on the forums, this appears to be a common problem with how the ribbon cable pinout is on the unit. I've emailed their support, but received no response yet. Another thing is, I have a 2007 FJ that has a factory sub, that pre-dates Toyota's JBL systems found in later years. They give no instructions on how to wire it and only wiring instructions for JBL systems. I figured out what pin on the plug it was and supplied power to it, to resolve it. Later found out that you just need to relocate that pin over one spot and it resolve it as well. The wifi is something to be desired. I've noticed it looses internet connection pretty frequently by tethering and connected to house wifi or it struggles to do multiple downloads at a time. Haven't quite figured out what is going on yet. Some apps really struggle to run properly. Gaia maps opens fine, but only shows black for the maps and I suspect it is struggling to download the maps. Look and feel is good, especially after you update it with a better loader. Most likely sending it back if I can't get Hazzard and Defrost Buttons to work and not receiving any response yet from them. ... show more

  • Constant bugs
Color: Silver 8 core PX5 4G+64G+CPAA
If it wasn’t that it looks good it would be a zero star. The interface sucks, Bluetooth only works half the time, Apple CarPlay the audio sounds horrible. I’m gonna try to get in touch with the manufacturer and see if it’s hopefully just a bad unit.
