  • Good filtration for cistern water Good filtration for cistern water
I ordered this water filter for handling rainwater collected in my cistern and it does a great job. The filtration is obviously good because water comes out tasting like water every time. The unit was easy to assemble by bolting in the filters and stacking. Oh yeah, attaching the spigot thing too. It was fast and easy. The polished stainless steel is a good quality material for something that holds water and isn’t supposed to let the water get weird. One thing that was annoying is that there is no clear indication on the unit for what filters to order later. I ended up putting a piece of filter packaging in a baggie and using a magnet to hold it to the lid. Since the metal is not magnetic, I had to put a magnet on the outside too. The unit is easy to use. Just pour water into the top, wait a bit and clean water comes out the spigot. It doesn't leak. Totally worth it. ... show more

  • EASY TO SETUP!
Setup takes awhile, but the end results is worth it. So far no leakage and the taste is refreshing. However not sure why the replacement filters cost so much, but when I compare it to how much bottled water I purchase it evens out. I feel good knowing I’m drinking water without all of the containments. ... show more

  • Not for picky water drinkers
This didn’t not taste right at all. Tasted super heavy and almost like it was not filtered at all. Had to return it because it was so nasty. If you’re picky about water, don’t do it.

  • A Few Days Of Water Filtering For Fantastic Water A Few Days Of Water Filtering For Fantastic Water
The promise of exceptionally filtered water was my sole reason for ordering the Culligan MaxClear water filter. It took me just under 3 minutes to fully assemble everything, as most of the process basically involved tightening the spout. Since you’re supposed to clean everything first, I opted to put it in the dishwasher on the highest setting to sterilize it thoroughly after removing the sticker. The Culligan comes with 3 large porcelain water filters. The instructions tell you to rinse them off, then run a few water filtered cycles to assure that there’s no debris at all. It arrived on August 4th, and while the instructions mention that the filtering process is slow, they didn’t state exactly how long it would take to filter 3 gallons of water. Simply filtering around 120 ounces of water took well over 6 hours, largely because the filtered water comes through as a single drip at a time. It definitely seemed like something was wrong. After reading a helpful review that mentioned loosening the filter to allow more water to pass through, the reviewer also stated that doing so would produce unfiltered water. That’s definitely correct as my PH test strips confirmed that the water was literally bypassing the substantially large water filter. The filter was rinsed and fully tightened again, and by August 9th, the lower 3 gallon tank of filtered water was finally full. It’s easy to appreciate how thorough the water filtering process seems to be. At this price point, if you have a fridge with a built in water filter, this might not initially make much sense to buy. If you only want the absolute best PH results however, it should be noted that some of the highest end fridges produce filtered water with PH levels that are usually around 7 to 8. Recommendations for safe water PH levels are between 6.5 and 8.5. The Culligan MaxClear filters produced water that had a PH level of 5. After testing several different water filters, those were the absolute best results I’ve seen with any of them. In my case, this water filter made sense to me because my fridge and my kitchen sink can’t filter water. While the tap water in my area isn’t bad, it’s not great either. That lead to getting a Brita filtered pitcher that drastically improved the tap water’s PH levels. The benefits of properly filtered water can’t be overstated. Even simply adding a water filter in my shower resulted in my curls appearing far more healthy. Yet none of these filters could even touch the PH levels the Culligan produced. Pouring its room temperature water into a glass pitcher then refrigerating it, or putting ice in it, made it feel even more refreshing. Even at room temperature, the water still tastes very good. I give this a 5, though it’s definitely a luxury item if you already have a water filtering fridge. ... show more

  • Like the taste but there are a few flaws
I like the way this makes my water taste clean and more pure. I appreciate that it holds three gallons of water. Mine came with 3 filters that are supposed to filter out and reduce microplastics, lead and forever chemicals. (I have never tested the water so I have to take their word on that.) I did find the set up process to be a little frustrating, I feel like the instructions could have been clearer and presented better. I was impatient to wait almost 3 days to be able to drink the water. The filters take a long time (they literally just drip at first) to fill the tank. I had to discard the first 3 batches before drinking and because of this, I would always use all 3 filters (you can use just one or two) whenever I have to replace them. They do seem to speed up a little bit after the first 3 batches. The filters are expensive to replace, which can be a downside, but each supplies 50 gallons of filtered batches. However, there is no indicator, or detector, that tells me how many gallons I have gone through. So, I have to just wait and guess when the filters start to not work well, discard at 6 months (which seems a little wasteful if I haven't made it to 150 gallons) or keep a record of how many gallons I have actually used. It seems that for the price of this thing, there could be something built in, in order to let me know when the filters need to be changed. I also do wish there was another way to check if the water is low because it is a bit of a pain to hold up the top part (with the filters attached just to check to see if it needs refilling. It seems that they could have made a small window in order to be able to visually check how low the water is. I like the look of the product. It is sturdy and durable. The size is perfect for me big enough to hold a decent amount of water but small enough to be portable. The stand is nice. It has grips to keep it from sliding around. There is a silicone pad to rest between the stand and the base to eliminate metal to metal contact. The spigot has always worked well. It is easy to turn on and off. The water flows out well and it doesn't leak when it is shut. I like this product but I do wish the company would figure out a way to show the tank water level and make a way to indicate when the filter needs to be changed, instead of having to make a guesstimate. That is why I gave it 3 stars. ... show more

  • Can't go wrong with a name like Culligan Can't go wrong with a name like Culligan
VERY solid product here. Excellent quality build, very easy to set up. Cheaper versions of these types of filtration systems have plastic filters in contact with the water. The plastic on the Culligan filters is minimal - most of it is ceramic. The Culligan website claims better filtering than Berkey and I tend to believe this claim with some of the videos regarding Berkey filtration I have seen on YouTube. The only downside of systems like this are that they take up a bit of space on the counter, and replacement filters are not cheap - but hear me out: According to the manual that comes with this 3 gallon system, the 3 filters will last for 150 gallons. (You have the option to use one or all three filters in the unit). This is obviously a subjective number as initial water quality being filtered is different form region to region. Extremely hard water areas might want to change filters around 140 up to 150 gallons, whereas softer water areas with higher initial quality of water could squeeze out 160-170 gallons, but that is just my speculation.. For a general average for drinking water, this should last two people 4-5ish months if you are drinking 3 liters a day, every day. Another subjective number as use will vary from person to person. About a $200 cost to replace the three filters. (Most people do not drink 3 liters a day, opting for sodas, juices, and other prepackaged drinks for thirst in addition to the water they drink). **The smaller 2.25 gallon model (Scout) uses 1-2 filters When you compare this to how much bottled water you buy, I would bet more money is spent on the bottled water. And, you're taking out the recycling bin/or have trash bins fill up faster much more often than if you used a system like this Culligan. The filter cost seems a lot higher simply because you are spending it all at once. Add up your 4 month bottled water total cost and see where you are. You might be surprised. Regarding space on the counter, figure how much space you are filling with storing bottled water in your pantry or storage area, or in the refrigerator. EDIT: Just a heads up for those who aren't familiar with gravity filters (of any brand): they are SLOW. That is how they filter so effectively. Your best course of action is to fill as soon as it is empty. It will take about a full 24 hours to fully filter one tank. The initial setup requires THREE tank fills and to discard the water from each of those fills before you can use the filtered water for drinking. So you've got three days before you can actually drink the water. Not an issue for most, just know what you're getting into. This is a system I will gladly use and spend the money on filter replacement, and from one of, if not the most recognized name in water filtration. ... show more

  • Best tasting water EVER! Best tasting water EVER!
Way to go Culligan! I was extremely pleased when this arrived. As someone who values a product designed to improve health, Culligan does not disappoint! Extreme durability being constructed from stainless steel as are the lid and spigot. No plastics to get in the way. Culligan took every effort to ensure the parts fit well, are safe and prevent any leaking. The quality of water this unit dispenses is unparalleled to anything I have - including my Samsung refrigerator filters. We have harder water where I live. The residue is present on anything hand washed. Even with a sink filter system, residue is still present. We go through Samsung filters faster than normal due to this issue. Lifespan was supposed to be 6 months, but we kill them in 3-4. Having two kids in sports and active lifestyles, we go through A LOT of water. With water being the most important resource every person needs, the cleaner and healthier, the better! Culligan delivers in spades. The gravity water filter removes 99% of lead, 99% of Total PFAS and 96% of microplastics. The water this unit dispenses has no odors and is virtually tasteless. It’s amazing. A few key factors to point out. The ceramic, granular activated carbon filter removes virtually all impurities while preserving the beneficial minerals. No electricity needed - another reason we wanted this. 3 gallon capacity meets all of our needs - though we do fill it daily to always have the lower basin full. As someone who also believes luck favors the prepared, having a unit such as this delivers clean water even in a disaster. Maybe that’s the doomsday part of me talking, but if your tap water is contaminated, what did you do? Culligan takes the worry away. The only downside, if it’s really a downside, is it takes a LONG while to filter the water. It’s a good two days to get your initial unit ready for consumption. It is recommended to run 3 cycles of water through the filter. For those unfamiliar with gravity filters such as this, they are SLOW, to say the least. But the reward is the cleanest, crispest water you’ll ever taste. Is it cost effective? I would say it depends on usage. The filters are expensive. About $150 for a pack of 3 which is what this unit comes with. Seeing as we spend a fortune on quality water in bottles with the kids sports and us, it saves us a lot. Also, there’s no true way to tell how long the filters will last as everything is manual. No gauges and such. Probably the best way is to test the water periodically otherwise I’d go with changing it every 150 gallons or so. Something you’ll have to track on your own as well. The trade off is it doesn’t matter if the power goes out for an extended period of time or the water supply is tainted, this unit still works as intended. I will also point out that by the third cycle of water goes through the filter, the whole process gets faster. To us, this is a necessity, not a want when it comes to clean, healthy water. With a trusted name in purity, Culligan delivers everything you could need and want. We highly recommend this unit and are already ordering filters, just in case. You never know and as I said earlier, luck favors the prepared. Five stars across the board. ... show more

  • A little pricey but worth it
I’ve been using the Culligan 3 Gallon Gravity Water Filter System for a little while, and it really delivers on providing clean, great-tasting water. I love that it’s NSF/ANSI certified and actually removes microplastics, lead, and PFAS while still keeping healthy minerals. The polished stainless steel design looks sleek on my counter, and the 3-gallon capacity means fewer refills for my household. Setup was simple and maintenance is easy. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it’s definitely an investment at this price point, and the filters aren’t cheap to replace. That said, the peace of mind and water quality make it worth it if you want a reliable, long-term solution. ... show more
