  • Upgrade old Windows 10 PC with Crucial SSD and SSK USB M2 SSD adapter
Capacity: 500GB Style: P310
I've been using a Windows 10 Dell desktop PC for more than nine years. Microsoft will not allow an update to Windows 11, but they did give me extended support for the next year at no cost. This system works great for me and I see no reason to junk it for a Windows 11 replacement system. I did notice recently that my 256gb SSD is nearly full, so I used Google search AI mode to review my options. I chose a Crucial P310 500GB SSD along with a USB SSK M.2 NVME SATA SSD Enclosure Adapter to allow cloning my C: drive. I highly recommend both. With Prime I had these items next morning after ordering. I immediately installed the SSD in the adapter and plugged it into a USB 3 port. I was concerned when a new drive did not appear in Windows Explorer, but after another Google AI mode search, I learned I needed to format the SSD drive using Windows Drive Manager. For the cloning software, I initially downloaded the Acronis True Image for Crucial program referenced on the Crucial site, but it would not work claiming not to have found a Crucial SSD. Acronis online support was useless. I searched for an alternative solution and happily discovered DiskGenius which offers a free version that worked very well and much quicker than I expected (about 20 minutes). Exchanging old with new SSD was easily done and rebooting found Windows and all of my apps working normally with plenty of room to spare on the C: drive. I saw on the motherboard two empty RAM slots and thought I would like having a memory upgrade as well. Back to Google AI mode, I got the exact information needed to go from 8 to 32GB. I found and ordered a kit for $57 which I will have in less than a week. So for $110 I have breathed new life into my old but perfectly good PC. I doubt that I will replace it even after MS extended support expires next year. ... show more

  • Good Gen4 SSD drive.
Capacity: 1TB Style: P310
Moderate heat doesn't seem to be a major issue. I used it in a PC that serves as a FTP server where my 8 security cams dump their full time 24/7 4k recordings. My use case is effectively a stress test the drive is filled to 90% capacity which takes 2-3 weeks then the data is dumped to LTO tape bringing it down to 20% capacity and the cycle starts again. This is in my second home and we are often not there and the HVAC safety temps are set to run it the temp is lower that 50 degrees or higher than 100 degrees. It's an old brick house with modern double pane windows and blown insulation so it takes a while to heat up or cool down. As of Oct 2025 the drive has been operating about 8 months 24/7 in the conditions outlined above (temp logging says it's averaging 83 degrees internal temp in the PC and smart is not reporting degradation in speed or capacity of the drive. The temps are not ideal but well within the operating specs for the drive and given the costs for M.2 connectivity SSDs are now reasonable and the utility it provides if I have to replace it every couple of years due to wear I wouldn't be upset. I'm aware heat is a threat so I did add a 60x10 mm fan blowing directly on the SSD drive with no heat sink and I might try the heat sync version next time (removing the drive bays so it can fit) to see if it extends the life. For comparison a 7200 rpm spinning rust and Sata SSD in a similar capacity in the same machine lasted 2.5 - 3 years before smart started reporting imminent failure. I'll update this review periodically to help people gauge the durability in their use case. ... show more

  • Works with the Mac!
Capacity: 1TB Style: P310
I was nervous about a possible incompatibility with the Apple chip structure of my Mac mini M4: the specs for the Crucial P310 drive spoke only of PC systems, and I read somewhere specifically, "only for PCs" - even asking the Rufus AI if this was Mac-compatible, it reported "The Crucial P310 SSD is not internally compatible with Apple devices, as they have Apple-specific drive form factors." I see now that the incompatibility is for an internal drive replacement in an Apple-chip Mac, not an external drive as I was looking for (a UGREEN USB-C docking station, fitting nicely under my new Mac mini M4). The Crucial drive installed in the docking station easily was reformatted with Disk Utility and is completely Apple-happy to be there, running faster than I have ever seen a drive run before. An internal drive must be Apple-compatible - not an external drive - this is what "Rufus" meant when it said this Crucial drive was "not internally compatible" because of "Apple-specific drive form factors". I would advise Crucial to be unambiguous, specifically that this Crucial drive IS compatible with Mac M chips when installed and easily reformatted in and used as an external drive! It would have saved me some anxiety. It is an excellent drive. ... show more

  • iPhone 17 Pro Max Pro Res!
Capacity: 2TB Style: P310
Works great for iPhone 17 Pro Max without any power delivery needed. I have it in the Acasis enclosure that has the fan as well. I do have a thin copper heatsink I put on as well with a cooling pad but I am not sure if it is needed, doubt it, but I had it so I put it on. Enclosure doesn’t close with heatsink on but I made it work. So far so good. Testing an hour of 4k Pro Res Apple Log 2 using Black Magic and it did not skip a beat and enclosure did not get hot. ... show more

  • Only Ships with Acronis TI for Crucial, not the full Version Acronis TI
Capacity: 500GB Style: P310
Installation instructions went smoothly. However, it only ships with Acronis True Image FOR CRUCIAL. Otherwise, you are offered an 80% discount on the $50 annual subscription for full version Acronis True Image. It is well worth the extra $10, but a bit misleading. The Crucial P310 Gen4/3 backwards compatibility performed near the max transfer rate of the GEN 3 port: 3500 Mb/s ... show more
