  • Great starter banjo
Size: 5-String
Great little starter banjo for the price. You definitely want to inspect it before the return date comes and goes. Mine has several cosmetic flaws, but sounded pretty good coming out of the box. The tuner works ok once you figure it out, you definitely need to tune it in chromatic mode. The strap that came with it is absolute garbage and if you plan on doing bluegrass the picks can go in the trash with the strap, but for the price the banjo and tuner are worth it for a beginner. Can't comment much on the cloth bag as I bought a hard case when I ordered the banjo. At a glance, it's not insulated or padded but it looks rugged enough to keep your new banjo clean when not in use and let you carry it around if you're not abusive. Took it to a local music shop for setup (the action was a little high) and the guy was very impressed by the quality of the sound and that a banjo with resonator that sounds this good could be had for less than $400. Toyed with it for about 2 weeks before taking it in for setup just to get a little comfortable with my picking before having precision adjustments made. Didn't need much. He brought the action down just a bit and straightened the neck slightly. The bridge shipped in the right spot (this is not to say yours will) and all it needed was tuning the day it was delivered. Mine was delivered exactly 7 days after it was ordered. 4 stars because of the garbage strap that won't attach to the banjo without being tied on with string, and the cosmetic flaws from manufacturing. Edited to explain the 4 stars and add photos ... show more

  • Great birthday present! (Get metal picks separate from this package)
Size: 5-String
The media could not be loaded. Knowing my wife enjoys music (you should see all the ukuleles she has!) and loves to teach herself new skills, I had to think of something along those lines to get her for her birthday. I tried to find some exotic musical instruments, but nothing piqued my interest. I finally decided I would get a banjo! Deciding on what kind of banjo to get was a bit more difficult. I wanted a true banjo, but I didn't have the money to put down $500 - $1500 on an instrument. So I was finding mostly banjo ukes. I finally landed on this banjo after the many reviews. Also, based on reviews, I bought a pack of metal picks. Trust me, get a pack of metal picks! The banjo arrived in good condition. Only the box had some minor damage. She got her banjo tuned and has been practicing it daily since. (See the video which is about a week's practice.) We haven't needed to make any bridge adjustments. This banjo comes with plastic picks the strap and a tuner. The plastic picks definitely have a weaker sound. The strap is fine. And I can't say anything about the tuner. We have a bunch of these small tuners and have stored this one away until the others are lost or broken. ... show more

  • Pretty good for the money
Size: 5-String
So far this banjo seems to be a good starter for a beginner player. It would’ve been nice if it had been packaged in a rectangular box instead of a box that looks like a banjo. My husband knew exactly what it was and I was trying to surprise him for Christmas.

  • Good Customer Service
Size: 5-String
When my banjo initially arrived, I opened the box and the stockhead was broken from the neck so I filed for a return and the customer service took great care of me. I didn't want a refund and instead a new banjo, the new one arrived today and it is not broken. The product is of good quality and all that a beginner will need. I love that it comes with the other extras like the finger picks, tuner, etc. Overall it's an amazing value, and I would have given it 5 stars, but I can only rate it 4 stars since they need to improve the packaging so that future banjos don't arrive broken for future customers. ... show more

  • Nice instrument.
Size: 5-String
What a great banjo for a beginner like me. I put new strings and a different (1/2 inch) bridge, oiled the fret board and the inside of the body and cleaned up a couple of fret ends. I will need to secure one of the frets that has lifted out of the board very slightly but it doesn’t seem to effect the playability so far. Made some other minor adjustments and it sounds great so far. I would highly recommend getting some metal picks to give it some punch/volume and for good solid tone. Sure there are some very minor workmanship flaws here and there as expected at this price point but I rather enjoy going through the set up as I think it helps me get familiar with the instrument. The only real issue I could mention is that on mine (not sure about all of them) the arm rest bolt sits on top of one of the nuts that secure the resonator. Not that big of an issue but the resonator can’t be taken off without first removing the arm rest. I suppose a person could move the armrest toward the neck if it bothers them too much. Customer service is outstanding. I would recommend this instrument to anyone who has an interest in learning to pick. It has been fun for me—it’s been about a week and almost already have Cripple Creek locked in. Slow but sure. Happy picking. ... show more

  • It does the banjo job
Size: 5-String
My girlfriend bought me this for my birthday. I already play a few stringed instruments pretty well and have some cheaper guitars so I knew what to expect. The finish is a little rough here and there including a fingerprint in the finish on the neck lol. The first time I took the back off one of the pieces that holds the back on fell off but a little glue fixed that. I did have to intonnate the bridge and tighten the neck down so it didn’t rotate. Also the nut is a little tall but I’ll take care of that later. Overall though it’s a great deal for the $150. I wouldn’t really recommend it for people who don’t know how to set an instrument up because after the cost of a setup they could probably have just bought something a little more expensive but for people like me this is pretty good for an intro instrument. The tuner works great. I did have to find another piece of string to make the cheap strap sent with to work also. I provably won’t use the picks but they’re decent quality. Overall I’m pleased and would definitely buy again. ... show more
