What a great banjo for a beginner like me. I put new strings and a different (1/2 inch) bridge, oiled the fret board and the inside of the body and cleaned up a couple of fret ends. I will need to secure one of the frets that has lifted out of the board very slightly but it doesn’t seem to effect the playability so far. Made some other minor adjustments and it sounds great so far. I would highly recommend getting some metal picks to give it some punch/volume and for good solid tone. Sure there are some very minor workmanship flaws here and there as expected at this price point but I rather enjoy going through the set up as I think it helps me get familiar with the instrument. The only real issue I could mention is that on mine (not sure about all of them) the arm rest bolt sits on top of one of the nuts that secure the resonator. Not that big of an issue but the resonator can’t be taken off without first removing the arm rest. I suppose a person could move the armrest toward the neck if it bothers them too much. Customer service is outstanding. I would recommend this instrument to anyone who has an interest in learning to pick. It has been fun for me—it’s been about a week and almost already have Cripple Creek locked in. Slow but sure. Happy picking. ... show more

Bought as a Christmas present for our daughter. She loves it and enjoys learning to play it. Didn’t want to spend a lot to begin with, until we knew if she would stay with it. Seems to be well made and all the accessories that come with it are a good bonus for the price.

The action is low on the high string, the neck is narrow for my fingers, and not all of the frets are set correctly, but it mostly sounds fine. It's good for a beginner, to be sure. Use brass picks, not the plastic ones that come with the banjo. The price is much lower than other banjos, so these imperfections don't seem so bad. ... show more

This product is a fairly ok banjo for beginners to learn on. After receiving it, the strap does not work for this, as well as the finish on the wood is terrible. A string was broken, however, it came with a set of replacements so I was able to fix that right away. The wood on the resonator under the neck was starting to chip and rub on the neck, just go around and tighten everything before playing. All in all, not bad. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Knowing my wife enjoys music (you should see all the ukuleles she has!) and loves to teach herself new skills, I had to think of something along those lines to get her for her birthday. I tried to find some exotic musical instruments, but nothing piqued my interest. I finally decided I would get a banjo! Deciding on what kind of banjo to get was a bit more difficult. I wanted a true banjo, but I didn't have the money to put down $500 - $1500 on an instrument. So I was finding mostly banjo ukes. I finally landed on this banjo after the many reviews. Also, based on reviews, I bought a pack of metal picks. Trust me, get a pack of metal picks! The banjo arrived in good condition. Only the box had some minor damage. She got her banjo tuned and has been practicing it daily since. (See the video which is about a week's practice.) We haven't needed to make any bridge adjustments. This banjo comes with plastic picks the strap and a tuner. The plastic picks definitely have a weaker sound. The strap is fine. And I can't say anything about the tuner. We have a bunch of these small tuners and have stored this one away until the others are lost or broken. ... show more

While inspecting the banjo-guitar, I took the back off to inspect the rim , I notice no metal hardware held the resonator on it was fasten by wood screws.The rim is made of (thin Plywood) About 3/16 it was warped , not a true circle so replacing the remo drum head would be impossible. Being optimistic I thought maybe it will sound cool. A few of the tuning pegs were stripped so I couldn't tune it to play it . I started trying to return it the same day I got it , was told by Amazon you have to wait 48hrs to return, due to Christmas rush , 30days later I was eligible to return it ( without giving any extra time to , return I had 2 days to box , ship, and return this junk, from east coast to west coast) Worst experience with Amazon ever for me. Im gonna have a bond fire and burn the costzan banjo . I have a Jamison banjo, which is playable out of the box, and a Morgan Monroe that is playable beginner banjo. Selling a decorative instrument, as a playable instrument should not be allowed by Amazon !!! ... show more
