  • Blown Away By The Results!! Green Water Out, Crystal Clear Water IN!
This is a miracle pump. I've had aquariums on and off for the last 30 years and never have I seen this kind of algae bloom. I couldn't get rid of it. It was actually much worse than the "day 1" photo depicts. At the time I took that photo I had removed almost all of the decor due to having to do 50% water changes every 2 days. It was ridiculous. I didn't want to add chemicals that may or may not have harmed the poor fish that were already surrounded by horrible green algae ridden water. I did a lot of research online and this is the pump that was most recommended. After seeing a lot of photo reviews that greatly resembled my very green aquarium, I took a chance on it. I was extremely skeptical that a pump would eliminate the constant green water, but to my surprise it actually worked! I really wanted to do this review because nobody has mentioned using this pump for smaller aquariums. The listing for this particular pump says "for aquariums up to 75 gallons", it doesn't give specifics for small tanks; but I took a chance and tried it anyway as a last resort. My aquarium is a 5 gallon aquarium. They're very common in size and even 5 gallon aquariums can be subjected to the green water conundrum. This pump, even though it doesn't fit in my aquarium upright, it still fits lying down and is fully submerged. On day 1, I couldn't even see my fish unless they were at the front of the aquarium directly under the light. Day 2 wasn't really much different. I didn't think this pump would actually work, but by day three I could not only see the fish but I could also make out the heater on the back wall. My aquarium was clear enough by day 4 that I started moving my other aquarium decor back in. And on day 5 my aquarium was crystal clear. No green water, no traces of green water, and I can see everything in the aquarium including the wallpaper on the back wall. There were no chemicals added. I used this pump in my 5 gallon aquarium for 5 days and my water is more clear than it has been since this aquarium was established and cycled for the very first time. It's like a brand new aquarium and my fish are super happy. I don't know how or why this pump works, but it's pure magic. Having said that, this pump comes fully assembled. It includes oxygen tubing for aeration if you choose to do so. I didn't need the extra aeration so I didn't install that piece. It can be used 4-8 hours a day as the instructions suggest. I personally used this pump for 4 hours during the morning and again for 3-4 hours in the evening to get the results that I did. The results may vary given the size of your aquarium. I plan to leave this pump where it is for now. The instructions say once the water is clear you can reduce the time, so I'll leave it in the aquarium and gradually reduce the amount of time I use it. I did a 30% water change on day 5, AFTER that photo was taken and it was just to clean the gravel and debris from the standard aquarium filter. This green water killer pump is amazing and the results really do speak for themselves. I would have gladly spent twice as much money for the results that I got! It's truly unbelievable!! My fish are happy and their environment is healthy. I'd consider that a win! Highly recommend!! ... show more

  • Most definitely works!
This product works decently well, it did get rid of the green water, and no more algae grew in the tank. There are most definitely pros and cons though. Pros - It works within a 7 day period (20 gal tank), it has a timer, makes a water current, it's very quiet, and has a wide variety of tanks it works for. Cons - It's a bulky unit, you can't see if the light is on to make sure its working, the water current it produces is very strong (don't use with small fish). Those Pros and Cons are all I could really think over, anyway I most definitely would buy this again, it worked wonders. ... show more

  • Started to work within minutes!
I didn’t purchase this to clear up green water, but rather a persistent bacterial bloom that would seem to clear up, only to return… time and time again. As an experienced aquarium hobbyist… I’ve never experienced anything like this. Waiting it out for 3 months didn’t work. Treating with erythromycin didn’t work. Using fully cycled filter media from an existing tank didn’t work. I had even reset the tank with new substrate and boiled the wood and rocks… Nothing cleared it up for long. I was even spraying any aquarium tools down with bleach and washing them with soap, then soaking them in dechlorinated water before reusing them, because I didn’t want to re-contaminate the tank. I decided to try a UV light… and it’s discernibly clearer after only 2 minutes! I’m already impressed. 1st Pic shows pre-filter on the left… on the right is after only running the filter for two minutes. 2nd pic is after 1 hour. The water quality is so noticeably better… even my betta is swimming around. This might finally fix my problem. ... show more

  • Good for green killing in a small tank , but not really designed for parasite eradication.
MY tank is next to a window so getting rid of them cells before they bloom is gold. Its a 30 fresh and it does this job well. If you do run this 24/7 expect a 9 month life span, before the spectrum falls off. if you have a timer then its going to last longer or the bulb blows, when it comes to these cheap bulbs who knows. Im getting this info from having a giant sized behemoth running salt in a 10k gal. system a decade ago. 110 watts X 8 which costed 4k. ALso had a coralife UV smaller version using 2 55watt or 36 watt cant remember, on a 240 salt setup. UV for parasite removal works best in a closed loop system where everydrop of running water runs through it , like a canister setup. You also need to know the calculation of how many GPM is the minimum for it to work. `Also i think the smaller units dont release ozone into the water, as my plants seem to be fine. the big ones release o3 and plants dont seem to like them at all. ALL this is from memory , so i could be off a little but i think the info is still good. ... show more

  • This product really works!
I bought this for my 20gallon tank that has 9 fish in it right now. I vacuum the gravel every week or two and have done some water changes. It seemed no sooner I did that the water would turn cloudy within a week and then start slowly turning green. I bought this pump/filter and ran it 24 hours for three days and my water is crystal clear again! Definitely worth it! I will run it a couple more days and then turn it off and see what happens. I highly recommend this. ... show more

  • Greatest Fish Tank Purchase
This thing is amazing. I was constantly battling algae and a swampy looking fish tank. I've had this thing for about a year now and it works flawlessly. The tank is constantly clear and there is 0 maintenance from me. The tank just always looks clear! It's magic. My only recommendation is that you don't need to run it 24/7 after your initial cleanup. I combined it with a kasa smart plug and scheduled it for 8 a hours a night twice a week. Super happy and highly recommend. ... show more
