  • So after using this over the 2020-21 Adirondack winter, I can say that this works pretty well!
I would have bought a snowBLOWER had I realized, and if they'd had one available, but I bought this without realizing. I was worried at first, and while I must admit that you'll need to work with its capabilities (like, no trying to chew up giant road-ice-chunks from the road plow and such), it has proved capable in this '20 to '21 Adirondack winter. Upstate NY has a serious bit of snow, but this handled everything pretty well. It's light, agile, but "really solid enough to feel like a tool", which is important to me. It doesn't 'feel like a toy'. I was worried that a battery-operated snow thrower might not perform well, and while I would suggest that people buy a 6.0Ah (or more if they have them?) battery for it, but with my 6.0Ah battery fully charged, I have enough energy to snowblow my sidewalk to the road, the driveway, my *neighbor's* driveway, and a bit more energy left at the end. Granted, these are not enormous driveways, just 'standard suburbs length' instead of rural-road-terrors, but still. The 4.0Ah battery is alright, but the 6.0 hasn't run out before I was done even in heavy snow. The only snow it was defeated by...and I can understand why...was snow where 8-10" fell and then we had a run of freezing rain, so it was wet, HEAVY, ice-topped snow. For *that*, I grabbed out my shovel and ice-breaker and cleared it manually. Everything else this winter, and ESPECIALLY the light, powdery ski-snows, were a breeze to handle. In fact this thing can toss light powder up SO well that it can snow it across your neighbor's place by accident. Thankfully, it also looks like perfectly normal snowfall when you do that, so they don't have to get mad at me! The device is very nice, but it does have a few things that could be better. The throw-chute is very light, as is the mechanism, so heavy snow can slowly 'straighten out' the aim of your snow-tossing towards dead-ahead. It's not a big deal, but can happen. One pretty-wet snowstorm left stuff that made me need to adjust the chute a few times before I was done, but even that wasn't too bad. It throws any depth of powder-snow, and the 20" one I have handles even wetter-heavyish stuff at up to about 2/3 of its scoop height. Deeper than that, I tended to push it forwards and let it 'ride up' on the snow, then pull it back and throw the remainder. That's one thing I should mention. This device worked quite nicely, but I needed to figure out how quickly to shove it forward. It's not a snow BLOWER, it's a THROWER. If you jam it a lot (so it turns off and needs restarted) then try going forward a little less quickly. The power output difference between 'loading it so hard that my headlights can dim a bit' and "Jammed it on a piece of road ice" can be hard to be sure on, so the manufacturer tended on the side of "Not letting the batteries dead-short and do a 'Samsung Galaxy Note 7' explosion trick", and I'm alright with that. If you stall the thrower on not-ice, just...I know it'll be hard, but!...be a bit more patient. Push a tiny bit slower. It handles amazing depths of snow for me now without stalling, though I did have to get used to it at first. I'm not big on reviewing my purchases at all, but I went out of my way to post this one because, after a winter of use in very-upstate NY, it did just fine. Would happily suggest this device to people if they have other Greenworks Max items to share batteries between, like I have a mower and leaf-blower and edger too. ... show more

  • Good snowblower
Size: 20" Snow (4.0Ah)
Purchased before winter and it's been a harsh winter. This snow blower has come in handy. It does jam and shut off in large amounts of snow (36 inches in one storm), the snow needs to be broken up before you run the blower through it, then moves the snow just fine. The battery doesn't stay charged as long as I would like, only for about 40 minutes. But overall, I would recommend this snow blower. It's lightweight and easy to maneuver. ... show more

  • Nice lightweight snow blower. I'm quite satisfied .
Size: 20" Snow (Tool Only)
Feb 2019 I finally gave in and bought a snow blower. Shoveling even medium snow simply wore me out and it took a day to recover. I'm 70 years old so that's my excuse. I bought this 40V blower because I already have three other Greenworks 40V tools - double blade mower, string trimmer and extended reach hedge trimmer. I have found them all to be more than adequate for my needs and physical limitations. The snow blower arrived severely damaged. It had been dropped from a height and the internals of the drive mechanism were jammed. The impeller would not turn. The battery cover was broken off and some plastic molding on the left side was broken off. I called Amazon and they immediately shipped another one and sent me a return shipping label for the broken one. The replacement arrived in two days. Customer service was awesome. Now I'm waiting for snow. Two weeks later. We have snow - sort of. Three days ago it snowed about an inch, then changed to rain, then froze up solid. No one on our block even tried to clear their sidewalks. Yesterday it snowed a couple inches on top of the old, icy stuff. The snow blower worked quite well. It picked up a lot of little pieces of ice with the new snow and threw it clear of the sidewalk with ease. Of course the very fine powdery snow didn't throw very far. The thicker the snow, the better it threw to the side. I clipped the edge of a concrete step which stopped the impeller immediately - and I mean immediately. It stopped dead with no grinding against the step. That's a pretty good self-protection circuit in the electronics. It restarted as soon as I pushed the button and pulled the bail. No problem. Now I'm waiting for a deeper, heavier snow to really test it. So far I'm pleased. I do wonder how well an all plastic body will hold up over several seasons of use in the cold. Time will tell. Two more weeks later 4" of medium heavy powder. Did almost 100 ft of sidewalk - worked great. As noted before, heavier snow throws much better. I ran my 4Ah battery flat, the last bit trimming up the end of the driveway where my snow plow left some fairly heavy ridges of snow. It lit all four LEDs before I started, but it had been sitting on the shelf since summer so I'm thinking it wasn't at maximum capacity. The next morning, four more inches of slightly wetter, heavier snow. Did the same 100' of sidewalk and the driveway end after the plow. At the end it showed 2 LEDs lit so probably could have done another 50' or so. This snow blower works quite well. It's a lightweight so you can't beat it up on heavy, icy stuff. I tripped the motor cutout driving too quickly into the the side of the big snow plow pile at the end of the driveway. It restarted immediately. By inching forward, nibbling at the pile, I was able to widen the end of the driveway cleanly. I'm quite satisfied with this machine. It's actually easier to push than my Greenworks lawnmower as I can put more of my weight on the handle and thus don't need my cane to walk and push. It's light and easy for me to maneuver even on grass around our garbage cans so I can take them to the street on garbage day. The noise level is very low. Just a loud hum. Much nicer than the big gas powered ones on my block. It's a bit of a battery hog. I assume the motor is a lot bigger than the ones in the lawnmower. With the 4Ah battery freshly charged, I ran it down only half way doing the same 100' of sidewalk as yesterday. I assume the battery wasn't fully charged when I started last night. If you read all the reviews you'll see that some people haven't had such a good experience with theirs. Perhaps they got a bad unit, or were too hard on this lightweight machine. Whatever. I recommend it. ... show more
