This thing is very sturdy! I use it to pull myself out of bed sometimes. 1) Length (Regular): It is pretty long so I think that an even shorter one would still be fine. I cannot think of why you would want the longer one. The height is not that high so it really is to prevent accidental falling out of bed not so much determined effort. 2) Height: I put a picture in. Our mattress is not a super tall mattress like some of the pillow toppers are. I think if you had such a mattress this would be too short. But for us, it works perfectly. 3) Securing it to your bed: It's pretty easy to do but a bit tricky to do well. We used the straps. We slid the straps under the mattress with lifting it slightly. It took 2 tries because we got them crossed at one point. And I thought I had it tight but was later able to get almost another foot of strap pulled out. MAKE SURE YOU TIGHTEN THAT THING LIKE HE-MAN! See warning below. The straps and plastic holders are very sturdy and I was impressed. I was really pulling on them and they held up. 4) Swing down feature: I haven't really been using the swing down feature- it is hard to get to from in bed. I think that is another point to #1 with not getting anything any longer. However- it is helpful to get it out of the way for making the bed. The thingies you have to pull up are quite strong and by the time you've sat up enough to pull them both simultaneously (you can maybe do one at a time but they snap back pretty fast) you might as well just scoot out of bed. WARNING!!: There's a gap between the mesh and the mattress (pictures are before I really tightened it- you can see a 2-3" gap). Even tightened as much as possibly there is still about a ~1" gap between the bed and the mesh. It could get looser with use (as the cloth stretches) because the issue is that the poles, despite having decent tension on the mesh, simply cannot make it fully flush with the mattress. I think this would be true of any of these types of rails and is definitely not a design flaw of this particular one. Something like a pool noodle under the sheet is better for really small babies. DO NOT USE THIS WITH YOUNG INFANTS! There is a disclaimer on the item itself but definitely take it seriously! I can easily see a tragedy happen if used with too small a child and/or not tight enough to the bed. Probably 25 pounds and able to climb/crawl is the minimum, but obviously I haven't tested that out. Maybe a bit smaller would be ok if more physically advanced and/or if you have a thicker mattress, but please be careful and make sure it is secured as tightly as humanly possible! My kiddo (~30 pounds) rolled into the gap before I really tightened the straps and got stuck but was old enough to squirm around to breathe and call for help and almost get out without help (maybe could have done it if I hadn't rescued so quickly?). How they slide into the gap if they are lying on their belly (or crawling) presses their face against the mattress. If not supervised that could easily suffocate even an advanced infant if they were stuck for a long time at a tragic angle. I've now tightened it almost to breaking the straps/plastic and I rolled the kiddo to the divider to test and no sliding into the gap. Tighten! Tighten! Tighten! And test it out. So I think used conscientiously it is ok for older infants- you have to weigh size/weight to maybe get stuck versus rolling off the bed as to which is more dangerous. Or get them to sleep in their crib I guess (hah hah... easier said than done). For toddlers they are probably too big for this to be an issue and also could self-rescue.

My husband has Parkinson’s and one of the symptoms is acting out dreams, which means he is very liable to roll out of bed while he’s running or kicking in his sleep. We finally decided it was safer to put up a bed railing. The ComfyBumpy brand is awesome because you can put it down easily so it doesn’t show during the day. And even when it’s up, it has a softer less “you are in bed prison” look to it. I don’t know how it would be for a child, but it is enough of a barrier to keep my husband off the floor! Pretty easy to assemble.

What I really enjoyed about this product was the number of different ways it can attach to different types of bed frames. They really thought about that. I have a crib with a wire frame base. I was able to combine the straps with the velcro and the product's rails to completely lock it down to the wire frame. It wasn't hard. It never slips off or falls over by accident. I can lean up against it as I sit on the floor, and it doesn't collapse. Seems pretty sturdy. I got it right on the first attempt. I also like that the rails that are placed under the bed aren't very big. That means the mattress won't rise up where the rails are to form bumps. I've seen lots of other bed rail guard products that do that. This one doesn't. And I think that's the primary reason why I bought this one over all the others. My toddler actually really liked the Comfy Bumpy bear logo that appears on the front. She likes it so much for some reason. She even refers to it as "Comfy Bumpy", like she's formed an emotional attachment to it. Haha. That was unexpected. I used it on her crib when I first converted the crib to a toddler bed. I gave her an opening close to where she places her feet. That leaves her the perfect amount of room to get on and off when she wants. She really enjoys the freedom. I'm a little worried about that mesh, though. She places the tips of her toes right into the mesh and pushes hard. So far so good, but I wonder if it won't be destroyed over time. Still, I prefer that she can see through the mesh. It makes her feel like she's less confined I think. Highly recommended.

My daughter had a few bumps rolling out of her toddler bed in the past despite adjustments we had made at home and was understandably scared to sleep in her own bed afterwards. So I chose this bed rail because I will be using it to attach to a twin or full size bed in the future but need it to work for the toddler bed now. We just assembled and installed the bed rail to the toddler bed frame. The straps are really not designed for such a small frame, but we were able to attach the straps with some effort by looping them through the grill of the metal frame to tighten it sufficiently. The instructions were basically useless for that step, but otherwise were good instructions for assembling. I also noted the Velcro straps over the bar on the mesh cover seem too small and pop open when you lower the rail down. I would not put the mesh fabric cover in the dryer if ever necessary because of this. It’s also quite awkward to lower the rail, partly because of the Velcro possibly, but definitely seems childproof because of the strength and difficulty required. All said, I think this product will serve its purpose and looks like it is made of sturdy quality. All parts and pieces were present and arrived on time. I predict it will easily last through both of my children.

Got this for my son, who just transitioned to his big boy bed. He is a very restless sleeper, often moving 180 degrees in the course of a night. He seemed to be falling out of his bed (we got him a car bed which is very low to the floor). The rail works great for keeping him in bed and is soft enough he doesn't wake up if he rolls into it. The securing method (i used the straps, but there are other options in the package depending on the type of bed - slat, wood frame, or other), was very solid, there are arms that go between the mattress and box spring (about half way on a twin) and straps that adjust, to secure it on the other side of the bed. Because of the size of the sides of the bed vs the height of the arms (the sides of the bed go up just higher than the mattress). We do not use the fold down feature (because i have the low profile box spring they are not high enough to use - but this is only an issue because of the bed we are using nothing to do with the product itself., On a normal frame this would not be an issue). After putting this together the joints seemed very sturdy, but i have not used that feature.

I needed a rail that would be able to fold down over a bulky daybed. This works well. I didn't want to screw into the boards under the mattress so I took the mattress/boards off and slid the straps underneath. That method of installation was a little bit of work, but it would be very simple if you don't mind screwing into the platform. First I ordered the XL version. That was ok, but as I am fairly small (5'2"), I couldn't reach both latches at the same time, which made folding it down difficult. My 200 lb husband bent the rail on that one while trying to climb over it, so I ordered the regular length as a replacement. It's quite a bit shorter than the XL, but keeps my son safely in bed and is easier to put up and down. Overall, very happy with the purchase. My only complaint is that it's hard to fold down from inside the bed, which is where I usually end up. The regular length version gives me enough room to get out of the bed vs the XL which I had to climb over (hubby wasn't very successful, hence the secondary purchase).

My son wanted me to loft his crib daybed, so he could go "camping" underneath. I didn't want him falling out of bed, so I thought I would give this a whirl. The toddler bed rail guard was easy to assemble. Installation was a little tricky since the security straps on the shortest length would be better fit for a twin bed than a lofted crib toddler daybed. After I figured out the best way to weave the security strap so it was tight, the rest was a breeze. I Velcro-ed the frame of the rail guard to the toddler bed crib frame for extra security. To flip rail guard down, pull up on the side safety latches and move rail down. The side safety latches snap back down, so I end up either using my chin or contorting myself to bring the frame down. Because of this comical display, I mostly just let my little one crawl into bed through the little gap on one end. Overall, the product is sturdy and well made.

The product came quickly and was easy to assemble. It looks very nice and the structure feels very sturdy once all the pieces are in place. It has a smaller profile than some of the similar guard rails on the market, which is why we ordered it. However, I will say that I was a little disappointed with a couple of things. First, the description of the item leads you to believe that this will work on just about any type of bed and situation. It lists convertible crib in the title, but I can assure you that the anchor straps provided DO NOT work with a toddler sized mattress. The straps are adjustable (and oddly come in a hideous cream color, which is weird since everything else is bright white, but doesn't really matter because it's hidden under the mattress anyway), but even at their shortest length are probably only for a twin bed. I believe what the manufacturer wants is for you to not use these straps with toddler bed, but rather velcro the metal legs of the structure to the springs of crib/toddler bed. This does not work for us since we have a dust ruffle over top the springs, but more importantly didn't feel that solution alone would adequately secure the guard rail. What's frustrating here is that all the manufacturer needs to do is allow the cream straps to adjust to the width of a toddler bed...problem solved. The second problem is that the guard rail is under UNBELIEVABLE tension when in the locked position. DO NOT plan on one person being able to easily lower the rail. Maybe that changes over time as the fabric relaxes a little. But I am a strong guy with a 6'5" wingspan and I couldn't drop the rail down without using my chest to lower it while my hands lifted the locks. The first time I used it, the rail slipped off my chest when it was halfway down (45 degrees) and had so much tension that it whipped up a hit me in the chin, causing me to bite my tongue and leaving a bruise on my jaw bone. I guess the takeaway there is always plan on it being a two person job.Once it is lowered, the tension releases completely. I understand some tension is necessary to keep the entire structure rigid, but it shouldn't be so much that it is essentially a loaded catapult when upright. Again, this leads me to believe this was not really designed with a toddler bed in mind, as the toddler bed scenario is when the lowering function is most likely to be frequently used.
