Superb Lamp for a Piano

I have been looking for a while for a decent lamp to light sheet music while playing piano. I previously bought a LED floor lamp, but it was not ideal as it did not extend far enough to illuminate the sheet music resting on the middle of the piano. I saw this Cocoweb on Amazon the last few searches, but avoided purchasing as I thought I could buy a comparable lamp for less money. After searching music stores, I realized that the price for this lamp was actually much cheaper compared to typical lamps used for grand pianos. So, I pulled the trigger and ordered this. I have to say, this lamp has exceeded my expectations and was worth every penny. The construction is solid, the aesthetics are pleasing, it's easy to adjust the positioning of the lamp head, the wide LED strip extends far enough toward the center of the piano and beautifully illuminates the music stand and keys. The rotary dimmer control on the lamp body is perfect positioned - much better than the touch-dimmers typically used. My only regret is I didn't buy this lamp years ago!

An elegant minimalistic task lamp!

This is a very elegant floor lamp of high quality. It’s very slim yet very sturdy. Super easy to adjust the angle. I mostly use it as a reading lamp, but occasionally adjust the light to face the ceiling, which makes perfect ambient light. I also appreciate the minimalistic design, only one knob for on/off and brightness (versus many other floor lamps sold on Amazon with remote control and different color settings etc.) Even the packaging is of high quality (NO cheap styrofoam!) Highly recommended!

Nice lamp, if it proves to be reliable.

My review is for the floor lamp model. I believe it will work very well for my needs. Its seems well constructed, has nice features, and has excellent illumination. It assembled easily, although care should be taken to properly align the parts, and not damage the threads or screw heads. To my eyes, the color appears to be close to that of a warm white incandescent bulb. I much prefer this over cooler color lighting. The manufacturer rates it at 2700K, CRI 90. I also really like the continuously adjustable dimming feature. For the light to be centered over middle C, the lamp post must be positioned just in front of the piano, and immediately to the left of the lowest A. This gives even lighting to the music and keyboard, with no annoying shadows. I tried positioning the post and base just to the left of the piano, and did not like the lighting at all. I have an upright piano, and I like to have the top board open when I play, to enhance the sound. A typical piano lamp that sits on top of the piano does not have a long enough reach to properly light the music and keyboard. This one should work fine. At the time of writing this, there are several errors in the advertised features. A sticker on the lamp base, and writing on the box state this lamp was made in Taiwan. The weight of the entire lamp is just over eight pounds. The post does not fasten at the center of the base, but close to its edge, resulting in a very stable lamp. There are three points of adjustability, which are sufficient. The on/off switch is built into the dimming rheostat at the top of the post. Dimensions can be judged from my photo. My only real concern is for the reliability of the LED assembly. When I first plugged in the lamp and turned it on, it would flash as I adjusted the dimmer, then go off when I would stop turning it. I turned it off, then tried again, with the same thing happening. I turned it off and came back after a while, and it worked fine. I used it several hours later yesterday, and it worked fine. It’s OK today. If it happens again, I will be contacting Cocoweb.

Beautiful Lamp But...

It would have been 5 stars. Why only 1 star? this problem probably only applicable to this particular lamp: I had my doubts even as I was unpacking this refurbished lamp. The plastic wraps that should have prevented scratches were just laying in the box and exposed wires were hanging from the tubes (see photo). The assembly directions made no mention related to electric connections. I twisted the wires back together and wrapped them with electrician’s tape. With caution, I tested the lamp and it worked. Another problem was missing screws. Fortunately, I found similar screws in my miscellaneous parts-collection box. A beautiful lamp. No obvious cosmetic defects. But Amazon should not have resold this lamp without inspection. If a customer didn’t realize the situation and assembled it with power wires touching metal tubes a dangerous situation may have caused serious injury from fire or shock. Even with my repairs, I took a cautious chance as unforeseen broken wires within the tubes may have caused serious injury.

Let there be light!

Playing my piano and also reading music is now another world! I've had a new grand piano for several months and did not have a proper lighting fixture which made playing and reading music somewhat of a frustrating chore. Playing in the daylight was easier, but at night time forget it! NOW I CAN SEE EVERYTHING; EVERY KEY; EVERY NOTE in the music books. I'm even more relaxed because of it, and that has helped to improve my piano playing. I was not considering a clip on or table top model to "sit" on the piano. I needed a floor lamp that functioned well for serious piano playing and practicing. I have the height adjusted above me and at an angle behind me because I need the keyboard to be lit for its entire length as much as possible. I researched many different floor lamps and was very disappointed in what was available from other companies at lower prices. Many looked like they would tip over easily. It wasn't until I read a review of the best piano lamps from a piano website, that I discovered the Cocoweb FLED-GPS. At first I thought this light was more money than I had previously budgeted for, but after several reviews of the product and its features, I realized that this floor lamp is perfect for my piano playing without having to strain my eyes! The base is firm and sturdy, and I discovered that the lamp base won't scratch our wood floor! I have an ebony piano and this light just blends in. LED lamp is rated to last 50,000 hours and there is a 2 year warranty. If music is a hobby for you, no matter what instrument you play, this Cocoweb floor lamp will help improve your performance and help your eyesight at the same time. Well worth the price.

This is our second piano lamp from this maker. I'm a piano teacher. I'm also going blind slowly, so good lighting means more to me than it does to almost anyone else. I've been through three lamps in the past year trying to find lamps for my grand and my teaching console that are bright, stable, and well made. These lamps are absolutely the BEST ONTHE MARKET! No kidding. I've spent nearly a thousand dollars ensuring that I'd still be able to see the music a while longer as I continue to lose my sight. These are the only brand lamps that fit the need. I should write adds for them I'm such a believer now. These lamps have meant I can read a while longer. They're bright, can dim, adjust well, are strong & stable, the clip on one isn't overly heavy for a real (non-electric) piano, and look very good too. What more do you want?

Great piano light

This floor lamp has proven to be the perfect answer for lighting the baby grand piano I recently inherited. The adjustable light is wonderful and I love the sleek design, so much better than other, clunkier choices I considered buying. This lamp is expensive, but worth it. Putting it together, for the most part, was easy, but the base is very difficult to join with the pole. Somehow, after several tries at lining up the two screws with the base, I somehow managed to do it by myself, but I recommend you have another person on hand for this last step. If for some reason the LED fixture fails to work in the future, I will revisit this review. For now, though, I love the lamp and may buy another for reading. Great look.

Hard to assemble, difficult to adjust

It is well made and arrived in Canada before it's expected date. The light it gives off is excellent, though it would be nice at this price (ca $300 CAD) if it had colour adjustment as well as brightness level. It is a miserable job to assemble. As a beginning, the instructions do not show the lamp as delivered - the instructions show a round base with the lamp pole attached in the centre. The lamp does have a round base, but the attachment point is off centre, and you must be _very_ careful to figure out exactly which way it should be attached. Good luck in this; if you get it wrong it will prolong the misery of attaching the base plate. You must balance the semi-assembled lamp on a bench, being careful not to screw up the LED bulbs etc., while you hold the very heavy base in one hand and attempt to line up the screws which go through the bottom of the base into the threaded holes in the bottom of the pole. You will need two people who get along together really well, because once the base is held up to the pole, it is almost impossible to see the threaded holes into which the screws must be carefully installed, to avoid cross threading the whole thing. But before you do this, you have to attach the two pole pieces together, which involves _removing_ a set screw (not in the instructions), aligning the tongue and groove arrangement within the sockets, then holding both sections of the pole on exactly the same level, vertically and horizontally. Oh, and while you are doing this, you must stuff the loose AC cord into one of the poles. I'd tell you which pole it goes into, but wouldn't want to deprive you of the pleasure of finding out for yourself. There - all assembled. Now try adjusting the arm and the light head. The light head adjusts easily into position on the double arm that holds it. But the arm, at least on my item, does not hold its position in relation to the pole unless it is tightened well beyond the strength of anyone but a plumber. It's not really a good idea for a pianist to try and apply this level of force with her fingers, so this is not an adjustment you'll want to make twice. Ideally, the lamp would fit just beside the left side of the piano, unless that side of the piano is against a wall, which is very common for a grand, in which case the protruding, fixed, short arm which holds the adjustable arm will prevent this placement. A swivel joint where the lamp head connects with the arm would allow the light to be place parallel to the music desk. It doesn't have a swivel joint here. Adjusting the rotation of the light head involves another set screw requiring a different screwdriver bit than the one you have used for everything else. And the Cocoweb instructions make it seem so easy....
