  • Amazing!!!
Style: Framing Nailer Only
I was very hesitant about this nailer because some people mentioned it kept getting jammed, upon reading reviews it looks like they don’t use correct nail gun settings with appropriate nail size. I followed instructions and this thing is a beast, done multiple projects and not a single nail stuck… i absolutely love this nail gun. ... show more

  • Learn to use it before you trash it - it’s a great nail gun!
Style: Framing Nailer Only
I’m not a builder - just a regular DIY homeowner type. I ordered this about a month ago for a rather large remodel project, and I didn’t want to haul my compressor and pneumatic gun up into the attic. I’ve accumulated quite a few to the FlexVolt tools, so I’m pretty well invested in the batteries, and thy have been really solid and flexible tools. Admittedly, I love the ability to swap the batteries when needed, and I’ve pretty much got enough of them to run my drill, saw, nailer, and oscillating tool with minimal swapping. I read the reviews and was concerned over the number of negative reviews - complaints of frequent jams and inability to drive nails completely. But I made the purchase anyway (happy birthday to me). It arrived well packaged, on time, and in perfect condition - for MUCH less than the big box store. I read the directions (shocker there!) and headed up I to the attic. I purchased GripRite brand nails, 3 1/4” and 2 1/2” lengths. I loaded the gun with 3 1/4” and started happily firing away...until after the first shot. Yep - I was the victim of the dreaded incomplete drive and jam. Fired about 10 more, all with the same result despite adjusting the depth of drive to maximum. Was just about to chuck it across the attic, when the nail selector switch at the base of the handle caught my eye, and then it hit me. Short nails use setting #1, and longer nails use setting #2. Setting 1 doesn’t use as much power so it doesn’t overdrive the nails. Setting 2 uses full power, and is NOTICEABLY more powerful. Soooo, I switched over to setting 2 and adjusted the depth of drive, and voila - perfectly driven nails...and then I explained to my son the importance of reading the directions, aaaannnnddd then actually following them. I’ve had one jam since, and that was likely due to the way I was holding it. Otherwise, every nail has been driven perfectly. Most of the negative reviews seem to mirror my initial experience, so i could be wrong, but, I suspect they had the selector switch in the wrong position for the nail they were driving. Position 1 is how the unit was shipped, and I suspect most people are using longer framing nails. So it is a really easy mistake to make, but thankfully, just as easy to correct. The selector switch is tucked neatly out of view (behind/under your fingers) when you are hold the gun, though it is not hidden in any way. All in all, this is a very solid unit, and more than capable of DIY use, and I suspect it would be good for construction also. I’ve got the 6 AH battery loaded and haven’t recharged it yet, and am about 2 weeks into using it. It is MUCH more convenient than having to lug the compressor up stairs and deal with the hose, and waiting for the compressor to recharge. It is a tad heavy when working over your head though. All in all, I find this to be a very solid unit, that is more than capable of delivering on its promises. At the risk of sounding like a DeWalt fanboy...I HIGHLY recommend this nail gun. I was NOT COMPENSATED for this review, I DID NOT receive the item at a discount, and this review accurately describes my experience with the DeWalt FlexVolt framing nail gun. ... show more

  • DEWALT or PASLODE
Style: Framing Nailer Only
So I spent a ton of time reading reviews for the various cordless framing nailers on the market and here are my first impressions. Before purchasing this gun I rented a Paslode 325 Li-Ion framing nailer and used it for the weekend. After driving about 500 nails I decided to purchase this gun because I was experiencing several misfires/fail-to-fires from the Paslode. With that said, I got this gun and immediately put a 3.0 aH battery in it and started using it. On speed 1 this gun doesn't even come close to the power and driving depth of the Paslode. If you hold this gun tightly against the studs it will drive a 2 3/8" nail flush or slightly countersunk. I ran into several occurrences where I was driving 2 3/8" nails into yellow pine 2x10 floor joists and would have to finish the nails with a hammer. I also experienced this when toe-nailing on speed 1 with 2 3/8" nails. There is an audible difference in the motor speed between the speed settings and on speed 1 there is little to no vibrations. This gun is also considerably quieter than the Paslode and a bit lighter. On speed 2 this gun comes close (but still not quite) to the power of the Paslode. It will sink a 2 3/8" nail in a standard stud. Now keep in mind that this setting is for 3"+ nails. The motor is quite a bit lighter and there is a small amount of noticeable vibration. Overall, my first impressions of this gun would be 3-4 stars. This gun has a lot of cheaply made plastic parts and doesn't come anywhere close to the construction quality of the Paslode 325 gun. It just looks and feels cheap in comparison (right down to the belt/pouch hook which is plastic on this gun and solid metal on the Paslode). With that said, I do like the fact that I don't have to purchase gas after 1000 nails. I'm going to put this gun through it's paces this weekend and drive a lot of nails so I'll certainly report back on my second impressions. ... show more

  • Beats dragging around a hose and listing to a compressor all day
Style: Framing Nailer Only
This tool did awesome on its first job, nailed a 60 foot lvl 5 nails in a row every 2 foot like it was a seasoned worker. These nails were 3 inch ring shank , and there were les than 10 we had to hammer in . It does not have the speed of a pneumatic ,and getting use to how it works is different , but very doable. I have both the 16 & 18 gauge nail guns from dewalt and hope this one holds up as well as they have because the convenience of not having a hose or the noise is well worth it at times. ... show more

  • Better than using air compressor
Style: Framing Nailer Only
This is such an effective tool. All the power and none of the restrictions of a hose connected to the other end. I just framed a room 11' x 17' on one charge and never had an issue with nails not driving flush. Worth the investment.
