Finding the right dash camera with all the selection out there today can be daunting so I'll tell you our experience and why we chose the SC 201 from Cobra. I also added some unboxing images bc that's important to me. Shape/Size, video quality, forward facing and in cab facing, and brand recognition were key factors when making our decision. There are all sorts of shapes and sizes out there now. A small sleek profile that doesn't block visibility was step one. Next we wanted HD/clear video quality 1080P bc what's the use if you can't make anything out clearly if and when we ever wanted to share for fun or when we actually needed it. We have young kids and if you do, you know the best things that ever come out of their mouths are in the car.. When else are we all in one place together without electronic distraction and have time for conversation... Lastly, we couldn't pronounce half the brands out there let alone trust the ones we could and have never heard of. My husband has had Cobra CB's in his trucks over the years and has their marine radios on our boat. Never had issues so we started and ultimately ended here because they have been around for ever and no reason why they wont be for a ling time. Also we found they have every applicable type or use case dash cam you could want. Product itself came with everything we needed including the SD card. We are happy with the size (I'll update with the mounting location in our truck later) and the mounting bracket provides flexibility and is small when you don't have the camera mounted. First couple trips around town and really pleased (actually surprised) on the quality of the video. Has already provided mediation in a dispute, which I won, and for the record after reviewing the tape HE was supposed to defrost the fish for dinner that night.. :)

I was hesitant about purchasing this dash cam due to it's lower price compared to others however I have been pleasantly surprised!! At 1080p this dash cam takes some very nice video clips. It's not quite as clear when driving into the sun, but I have a feeling most dash cams would have that issue. I purchased a 256g micro sd card to go in it even though it came with a 16g card. To be clear, you have to set it for loop recording in 1, 2, or 3 minute intervals. All that means is that is how long the clips will be. It will fill up your card prior to overwriting any clips. We went on a 4 hour drive yesterday and it put roughly 83 3 minute clips on my card. The instructions also state that 1 minute clips would be much easier to transfer to your computer than 3 minute clips, due to size, however all of my 83 clips transferred quickly with no problems. The dash cam stores all forward camera clips in a folder called Normal_Front and all In Cab Camera photos in a folder called Normal_Rear on your micro sd card. So far I am very pleased with it. In the future I might get a more expensive higher definition dash cam but for now, I am very pleased with this one.

There’s a few things that bug me but because I have nothing to compare it too and most my gripes are with the app and not the actualI cam, I won’t rate it lower than 4. the app is extremely slow, requires a constant connection to the camera to be used in any relevant way, connection is immediately lost upon your phone sleeping or closing app, your phone will connect to the cams wifi automatically but you will still have to open the app and manually connect to the cam, the app can’t always find the cam despite your phone being connected to the cams wifi. That being said these are only things you have to deal with if you insist on using the app which you don’t need to do. The only gripe I have with the actual cam is that you can’t fully turn off the display. You can however put it on a dark mode where the screen is black and displays only your speed and time of day. Update: I’ve had an issue where when the cam is full it will start to record either only the front or rear view. So you have to be on top of manually clearing space for the cam so that you aren’t met with nothing but cabin footage when you need to pull a clip of a wreck. This is essentially a deal breaker for the cam

I literally installed this the day before a scammer tried to say I rear-ended them! I pointed to the camera and said "beat it!". A week later, someone also hit me and caused an accident. This thing gives me comfort and the knowledge I will win in court should something go down! I will say its a little heavy, so I almost gave it 4 stars. However, its worth its weight in gold so 5 stars.

Like other reviewers I have issues with it shutting down on its own. I bought it for my RV and wanted it mainly as a parking security camera and it's supposed to run 24/7 but it just will randomly shut down so I don't find it dependable
