I have been a long time user of Clairol root touch-up colorblend permanent root touch-up which does pretty well on covering my gray roots but it irritates / burns my scalp a bit. Clairol Natural Instincts ammonia free covered my grays even better and did not have any irritation whatsoever. Now this is the first time using it so the real test will be how long the dye lasts and how often I have to dye my hair (I use this in between professional hair appointments) but after a first try, I think this will be my new product I use in place of the root touch-up product. I also like that it has coconut oil and aloe. My hair felt very healthy afterward. And no strong smells when dying hair, that was an added bonus!

Oh my goodness I LLLOOOVVEEEEE this color! And it doesn’t seem to be damaging and didn’t smell super intense/ it smelled but not like bleach or anything. Warning with the dark dose gold blonde when it’s on your hair it will be dark purple dye after awhile… which freaked me out so I washed it out after 15-20 minutes instead of 30 in case it was turning brown. It wasn’t and it’s like a perfect combo of golden copper light brownish in the shade. But glistening gold in the sun and red in weird light. I just think it’s fascinating. My hair is dirty blonde underneath so that’s what I dyed it over.

My natural hair color is dark auburn. At 50+ much of it is sprinkled with gray now (hence the need for color). In an effort to save money as well as protect my hair from becoming too damaged I thought I would try using box color in between salon visits. This is a very nice, gentle hair color. It covers my grays well although they do turn out a bit lighter than the rest of my hair. I follow the directions and color the grays and roots first then comb thru to the ends for the last few minutes. Be careful not to leave on your ends too long as they will turn out much darker than the rest of your hair. The scent isn't overwhelming and chemically like other coloring products. The coverage usually lasts about 2-3 weeks before I start seeing fading and new growth of gray hairs popping out. This color is a nice warm, medium auburn on top of my natural dark auburn and gray hair. Not brassy or red - red. Overall I am very happy with it. It's easy to apply and the price is good too.

I’m not one for writing reviews but always rely on the reviews of others when I’m doing research on a product or service 😂 This time I just had to review this product! Background on me, I am an African American female in her 40’s and have natural hair that’s about half way down my back. I use heat no more than once a year and only use a wide tooth comb on bith mine and my daughter’s hair. So, I am very particular about my hair 😊 I was so afraid to color my hair on my own, but did research and decided to try this in black. I had previously had my hair colored about 5 months ago with permanent color and the individual was so super rough with my hair that I didn’t want to even let her touch up my color. Let me tell you, this product covered EVERY SINGLE GREY HAIR! And, I heard the temple area is the hardest to color. My hair was so soft and I have lots of hair and only used one box, but I would still order two just in case. I only touched up my edges in the front temple area and along where I wear my part. I’m so serious and I’m not paid at all for this review. Please give this a try. I did follow the directions verbatim except I shampooed my hair the same day. I rinsed the color out with slightly cool water in the shower and once the water ran clear, I commenced to shampoo with Shea Moisture for kids carrot and mango shampoo, which I’ve used for several years now on mine and my daughter’s hair and we both love it. I used the conditioner that came with the color also to deep condition my hair and used my normal TGIN Green Tea leave in as my styler along with Shea Moisture curl foam and flaxseed Eco styler gel. I also had no allergic reactions and I have very sensitive skin. I did not do a allergy test prior to using the color, though I would recommend doing that. Basically, this color is amazing, it didn’t blend the greys, they are completely gone.

I love this Natural Instincts especially this color which is very hard to find! It is Medium Brown “Brass Free” which my hairdresser even said she had never seen! I have gray on the top of my head and underneath my medium length brown hair but this covers it well! Plus it does not leave it looking “brassy”!

The directions are pretty straightforward-add to dry hair, let it sit for an amount of time and rinse out. I was impressed by the longevity too. I dyed my hair over two months ago and it’s just barely beginning to fade. The applicators were precise enough that it didn’t spatter all over the place and I didn’t wind up with dye stains on my forehead. Great product!

It went in well and stayed through the number of shampoos stated on the box, but I would not call it "Dark Blond" It was more of what they used to call a "mousey brown". I was trying to make the gray hairs light while leaving the still-black hairs dark and the whole thing went to brown. It's washing out now and I will use a different shade next time.

I just dyed my roots with the color 5A. I wanted to dye my full hair to get rid of some brass color, but my hair is too long, wavy, and full. I couldn't cover the whole hair but the amount is more than enough to dye the roots and maybe a length of shoulders. I achieved this coverage by leaving around 45 minutes on my roots. I will purchase it again.
