My mom introduced me to this and I'm so glad she did. I've been using just whatever is on sale at the market. Since I mainly need to touch up some gray roots, these products are always close to my scalp. Some of those previous dyes dried out my hair or burned my scalp and I just accepted it as 'that's what dyes do'. Umm wrong... Since using this, my hair is healthy and no longer breaks easily AND I have not at all had to suffer burning scalp syndrome! I love that the cooking time is only like 10-15 minutes and the gray is covered. I use this about once a month but I don't use much, I measure small equal amounts of each into a small mixing bowl, then mix brush only on the roots showing grey. So one box lasts me a long time. I do like to stock up on 2 or 3 boxes at a time though because once in awhile it does run out of stock here on Amazon, and I always want to be prepared. ... show more

My hair is naturally blonde with light brown roots. It's pretty long, medium-thin. The box says you might need two boxes if your hair is longer than your shoulder, but for me, one box was plenty. I bought light caramel brown. I knew to expect it would come out darker than the box shows at first. The color is exactly what I wanted. This hair dye is not harsh on the hair. I like that it dyes the hair with a lasting look. The directions are simple and it's easy to apply. The scent is hard to describe, not unpleasant just different. However it doesn't last long, typically just a day and the scent goes away. I have grays on top and all around my head, most are hidden but there are a lot of white, and gray and I have medium length hair. Make sure you have at least 2.5 hours of time to read and complete this hair coloring on your own. I decided to use a brush to apply the product to my hair after squeezing it on my hair line per the paper instructions. Do the front of both sides first after you section your hair into 4 quadrants and tie it up or clip each section. Start at the root and do your best to rub it in so it saturates all strands. Start the timer after you have done the 2 front ( left and right) sections. Be prepared to leave the product on for at least 30 minutes. It doesn’t drip as much as some reviews suggested, but it does stain skin, clothes, and surfaces. I covered my neck down with a big plastic bag and rub Vaseline petroleum jelly around and behind my ears, on back of my neck, on forehead, top of nose across and above my eyebrows and on both sides of my face near my ears. Wear 2 pairs of gloves so it’s easier to switch once you have to rinse the product off with just warm water in the shower. A little dollop of the conditioner goes a long way even though my hair is a few inches past my shoulders. I find that rinsing is a bit time-consuming because I don’t think I was able to rinse all the product off. Found this out after I thought the water looked clear, but after I rinsed the conditioner off after applying it and leaving it on hair for 2 minutes, there was still some gray tint in the water as I was rinsing the conditioner off. I’d do the first rinse without using gloves so I can scrub the color off with my nails more. By the way, make sure your hair is dirty when you color it so the natural hair oil will protect your scalp from the harshness of the hair dye chemicals!! Today is the 10th day and I’ve used the conditioner only a total of 1 time. My hair is still blue black from the coloring (my natural hair is black with white and gray), but it doesn’t look blue in person. I did not see any grays or white hair, and my hair looks smooth & healthy naturally. No bald spots at all! P.S.: photos are my hair a few hours after I colored it. You can see some blue around the hair line, but I used facial wipes to easily remove it. ... show more

While I like this brand, I was actually surprised that my final color did not look anything like dark blonde. Didn't see blonde in it. Actually came out as a medium to dark brown.
