I have streaks of gray. I colored my hair with this for a special occasion/trip where I didn't feel like having silver streaks. More than two months later, my grays have grown out an inch, and the dye has faded, but definitely not gone. It colored well, looked good for weeks. I'm not sure how long it
's going to take to be completely gone (if ever), but it blends okay and is less harsh of a line than if I would have colored with permanent dye. You do have to be careful in the first few days if your hair is damp, it will transfer to towels, shirts and pillowcases.

Quick update...and raising from 4 to 5 stars. I used this 6 weeks ago and only now is the color beginning to fade around the temples and a bit at the roots, but it is so nice and gradual. No harsh lines. I love semi-permanent. I wash 3-4x a week. I have to say I am impressed, and I will do this again
in a few weeks. It's lasting way long than advertised. I thought it looked red at first but after a week that faded a bit I guess? And suddenly this older now single lady has far more love interests than only 2 months ago...I wanna see where this goes... Still advise doing test strands! Original review: Back when I was 30% gray, 6A was my go-to semipermanent color. I loved it and used it for years, but during COVID I let my hair totally wash out, and then later just grow out. But 6A was a perfect match for light ashy brown. I'm about 60%gray now. I decided to try it again... I tried 6A (darker vertical, right image) and also something kinda fun maybe... 7A to hopefully add some blonde highlights to the gray (left image) Swatches are 25 minutes of 7A, and 6A, from the gray-est hairs, showing some representative strands of my natural gray and natural mousey ash brown. Both are red..6A is a little better in the image but really in just about all other lighting it's "red". Not the 6A I remembered! Want to remind people to do a test every time you color.

If you have resistant gray...
Color: 7A Dark Cool Blonde

...you can leave this on longer so it will cover gray better. This is less damaging than permanent color. I use the dark ash blond for my light brown and blond and grey hair. I like the gentler smell of this color. I am sensitive to scents and this is very tolerable. It will appear a bit dark at firs
t, but to get better coverage I have to leave on for 45 minutes. If you don't want that, go with permanent color like perfect 10. Their dark blond is warmer, but I like that formula and can tolerate the scent. I recommend natural instincts if you have never colored your hair before. Go a shade lighter or a shade very close to your hair color and follow the directions. If this works for you, great. But to cover my very white gray I have to leave it on longer. The color is very good for me. Do not be afraid to try it. Don't go too dark, err on the side of being too light, you can go darker next time if you wish. The color is very natural and so pretty. Limit the use of heat tools for longer lasting color. Shampoo less often if you can. Otherwise plan to use often to cover those roots. You do not want yellow or orange roots. A color is too warm if this happens. And we all know what white roots look like! With a hair color like this, you can get that youthful hair color back. I only use only at front hairline and the crown of my head to blend in with previously colored hair. I use a wide-toothed comb to ensure color is getting down to the root. Use as much as you and, don't skimp where you are applying it to saturate each strand. I also make sure my hair is free of hairspray, mousse, gel, etc. for best results. You don't have to, but it is best. Please do not stop making this. I also have sensitive skin and make sure to rinse it well. Do not color when you are in a hurry. I also use a microfiber towel on my hair. Save your best white towels for your body or your guests. I cannot emphasize how easy it is to use this color. When you color your hair regularly, you will get very good at it. Wipe up spilled hair color immediately. Don't get it on clothing, walls, bath rugs, etc. I sit in bathroom and play games on my phone to pass the time. I have no stress about it, it is just part of my routine. Good luck.

Used this brand for many years to help hide gray roots. Easy to use and liked the way my hair felt after use. This product did not seem to cause any damage for the many years I used it. I now have more grays and have switched to Clairol Nice and Easy as I am finding I need more longer lasting gray co
verage now. I would recommend the Natural Instincts if you don’t have too many grays as the ingredients are more gentle for your hair health and it gives you great color and blends the grays if you need that.

Have been using this product for at least 8 years. It is so easy to mix and use. No ammonia to strip hair and subtle color change to cover gray. Wash, rinse and go. The box says 24 washes but I can get away with 6 weeks or more and I wash my hair daily.

This color does a good job of covering gray

I've been using Clairol Natural Instincts since they've been in business. The color 6g seems to color the best and cover gray hair. It's easy to apply and if I use shampoo for color treated hair, it doesn't fade out as fast.

What happened to Natural Instincts?!

About 10 years ago, I almost exclusively used Natural Instincts to color my hair. What I remembered most about it is that it smelled fantastic, the colors were great, and the conditioner was top notch. Over time, I started using Revlon Colorsilk (to lighten my hair) then I would follow it up with Ado
re hair dye. (I still recommend that as a method for getting great color) As for Natural Instincts, this is not the product I remember! First of all, it didn't used to be a cream. Back in the day, it was quite runny... which is arguably an improvement, but I feel like I got better coverage back then. I have shoulder length hair right now and one box barely covered it. Secondly... it REALLY stinks now. It smells like an unholy combination of burst plastic and medicine. It used to genuinely smell delightful. I think that's the biggest disappointment. The conditioner smells great and the color was fine. Hence, the 3 stars. Sadly, though, it is no longer a 5-star product, which is what I would have given it a decade ago.

I have used this color for a long time...but I think that they have changed the color,...it used to be more of a wheat color and now its kind of brownish. It covers very nicely and I've always loved it. I don't know why the color changed.
