I had dark brown hair before it went gray. I tried several brands including having it colored in a salon and nothing stayed until I tried Age Defy. My hair is fairly long and I only color roots and occasionally put it in all my hair about every six months.

This is the best economical hair dye to cover stubborn gray hair. It’s easy to use and comes with pretreatment and deep conditioner. It’s the only hair product I’ve found that truly remains covering my “old lady hair” which has grown in more course and wiry than my normal hair. If you are trying to cover gray and have course hair or resistant to dye or it washes out I would highly recommend this one. ... show more

I used the 4 dark brown color. I followed the directions exactly and it came out way darker than it was on the box, but I also haven't washed it yet. About my hair: naturally curly, medium brown with a small amount of noticeable grays, and it's been 5 months since I last colored my hair. I only colored it a couple of days ago and haven't washed it yet, so I can't comment on the staying power. Usually when I color my hair at home, when I rinse it out, I have a larger-than-shampooing amount of hair loss.
