After buying a few different models that were either defective or not up to my standards, I finally got an air fryer that is equal to my Tidylife 6.3 quart air fryer. The Chefman works every bit as well as the Tidylife. Maybe even a little better. It cooks evenly and you don't have to turn over foods like steak, chicken nuggets or fries. I always recommend turning over chicken, but that's just my preference. After my brother and I wondered if side slots on the pan would be as effective as the vertical slots on the Tidylife, I was shown right away by the Chefman that yes, the side slots are every bit as effective. I like how the "basket" comes out and is easy to clean. The basket is only a round metal piece that attaches to the bottom of the drawer. I like that. It's less to clean and easy to clean. At 1700 watts, it takes up far less energy than a regular oven, and it doesn't heat up your whole house. For people that say air frying isn't deep frying, well, you're correct. The whole purpose of an air fryer is to save energy, cook faster, and cook with little to no oil. If you want your stuff to drip of oil, use a regular fryer. If you're not in to the oil thing, use this air fryer and it won't let you down. You HAVE TO use the basket, or the very definition of air circulation and air frying is down the tubes. The whole pan and basket need the holes for the air to circulate with, and if you're not using the basket, you're only going to see one side cooked, and it won't be an even cook because the other side didn't get the advantage of the holes in the basket below it. My only complaint is that it didn't come with any accessories. A pan with holes in it, a wire rack or tongs would have been a nice addition. As for the air fryer itself, I wish I needed more, because I'd buy this thing again in a heartbeat. I 100% recommend this air fryer. 11-6-18 UPDATE - Ok so I still love this air fryer, BUT a flaw has been found. Because the drawer has such low slots for the air to pass through, there's not a lot of grease that can build up without it leaking out of the machine, whether the drawer is in the machine or whether you take it out to move your food around or to shake it up. Grease will go everywhere. This is a big, dangerous flaw because the grease can drop on the ground or on your foot. I'll be using the Chefman for dry items like fries and chicken nuggets. I did drop it down to 4 stars now though, because it can't hold a lot of grease due to the low slots. Update 5-25-19 - So after 6 months, the teflon on the "basket" started to peel off. I contacted Chefman and the unit is still under warranty (1 year), so the "basket" is on back order, but they say it'll be here within a month. If this is your first air fryer, it’s important to know that “air frying” is a misleading marketing term. Even if you brush the food with oil, it will not come out like you actually fried it in oil. An “air fryer” is actually a small, super-efficient convection oven. If you evaluate it on the basis, this product does well. It’s a good machine, much more practical size-wise than the higher-capacity models, both for counter space while using and for storing. It heats up quickly and runs quietly. It is quicker, more efficient and less hassle than an oven for many things. (Roasted Brussels sprouts, home fries, etc.) We are happy to have it…and will also get a deep fryer for actual frying. ... show more
