We got this grill specifically for the side burner. If our power ever goes out we can at least heat water for coffee or tea. Or heat up a can of soup. Just be careful your pan doesn’t slide off…speaking from experience. The main grill has three burners in it. I’m still figuring out the zones, but I recently tried turning off the middle one and leaving the side ones on to cook burgers and it seems to work well with fewer flare-ups. We did install a thermometer in the lid since our electric grill had it and I got used to using it that way. It does seem a little flimsy when we pull it out to use it, but if you can set it up in a permanent spot, then there is no issue. All in all I would order this again if we ever need to and would recommend this as a starter grill ... show more

    • Inexpensive, bare-bones grill that works well

I grill a lot (multiple times a week, year round). The last grill I had was a 3-burner Char-Griller (NOT Char-Broil) that paid for itself multiple times over. It lasted a few years and the only thing I ever had to replace were the flavorizer shields over the burners. Everything else was factory original. By the time I wheeled the old Char-Griller to the curb, it was well past its expiration date. It left a trail of rust flakes all the way out of the yard. It still worked well enough, but the sheetmetal body was starting to get eaten away with rust holes, and the grates on top were starting to rust. I would've bought another one, but the prices have more than doubled on the Char-Griller. I originally paid $179 for it. The last time I saw a 3-burner propane Char-Griller available on Amazon, it was going for almost $400. No thanks. I spotted this Char-Broil 3-burner grill for about $200. Covid has more or less destroyed supply chains the world over. Even steel has been difficult to get, and things like appliances and gas grills are sometimes hard to come by. But, I needed a grill, and $200 is a not-completely-unreasonable price for a 3-burner model in our Covid world. Assembly is straightforward. I got it done in a little over an hour, but I made sure to lay everything out and read the directions carefully. Sometimes I shoot from the hip, and even though this thing is not difficult to put together, there are a lot of fasteners and small parts that have to go in the correct location. It goes together with simple hand tools, but I cheated and used a cordless impact driver. BE CAREFUL or you'll twist the head right off some of the screws. I snugged them down with the driver then checked them with a manual screwdriver and experienced no trouble. My old grill had a cast aluminum lid, an electric igniter, and a built-in thermostat. This one is made entirely of steel stampings, uses a piezo igniter, and if you want a thermostat you'd better bring one with you. To be honest, it doesn't feel as solid as my old Char-Griller, but I don't care. I've used it a couple of dozen times already and it does everything I need it to do. I don't miss any of the other stuff the Char-Griller had-- this one works fine. A big plus for this one is access to the tank valve. I shut the propane tank off after every use so that I don't come back to an empty propane tank if the hose or regulator fail. Doing this on the old Char-Griller required the dexterity of a contortionist because the tank was stuck way under the top of the grill. On this grill the tank is fairly far out, which makes opening and closing the valve a breeze. I didn't realize what a chore it was to do this on my old grill until I didn't have to do it any more. Tank changes should be easier as well, though I haven't had to do that yet. In short, I'm glad I bought this grill. It works well, is easy to put together, and wasn't too expensive. I'll follow up with a subsequent review but have to say, It's been a pleasure to grill on something much smaller. I'm in the midst of downsize and simplify so gave my 10 year old Charbroil 4 burner w/side burner to my son. And that too has been well cared for. Upside, it's a better fit for me, I do plan to add a thermometer just because I can. Downside - not really as I'm a mechanic and this came without assembly instructions so I downloaded from their website. Also the parts are not numbered so it's a bit of read the directions and understand square peg in the square hole nothing more than basic arithmetic. Otherwise, find someone who can My only recommendation grabbing some Lock-tite so the screws don't back out over time. I noted Char-Broil already applied this on some preinstalled screws, would have been nice if they included a small tube but it's a minor expense. Took me about two hours to fully assemble, then again, working from home, I took my time even read the directions...I know, bad guy thing. In the end, a few extra hardware and some part not identified so all is good. ... show more

This is a great compact grill. It gets the job done and you really don't need to spend any 3xtra $, unless you want something grand and fancier than this! The grill looks good and works really well. We spent around 45 mins to set this up!

It took me and the wife about 3.5 hours to assemble. I frequently needed a third hand to hold things in place as I assembled the grill. There are extra fasteners . So must also supply other gills. It would of helped if the fasteners had been label according to the diagram provided. I tried it out after assembly and it did a good job grilling a couple of steaks. The temperature gauge came from my old Char-Broil grill. I transferred it. This one does not have one. ... show more
