abunda_amazon_reviews First smoker that I've ever owned; but had smoking buddies for years. Most have some automatic puck-dispensing or egg things that cost $500+ and they are limited to their supplies based on the manufacturer. At 1/3 of the price, my wife bought me this one that allows me to use any type of chips that I want. Provided at this lesser cost, the performance isn't as good in terms of the smoking capability & flavoring (although I do not have the innards completely 'seasoned' yet; but I've got this thing dialed in on the controller to whatever I want & it is pretty consistent on temp. I like the industrial look of the box, handles & latches- makes think that I could turn it into a vault, if I ever needed to. Make sure you get a cover for it to keep the elements & critters out. I am pleased with this purchase & would recommend it to anyone that is an occasional smoker & not a snob about it...;;Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2018;;4.0 out of 5 stars;;Great Ability & Control @ Inexpensive Price;;JJ S;;;Loving this smoker so far. Dinging it one star on value since there's space for 4 cooking racks and they only include 3. If you want the 4th rack, you're looking at ~$19 shipped from the manufacturer. Performance wise, I love it. Smoke box is a little small and I only get about an hour out of a load of chips, but that's to be expected on an electric smoker like this. The analog gauge was spot on when compared to my Maverick digital thermometer. Also, the probes for the Maverick fit right through the vents. If they would've included 4 racks, it'd be an easy 5 star. That's 72 poppers in the pictures. 3 dozen jalapenos halved, 72 slices of bacon, pounds of cheese, two hours, and tons of yumminess.;;Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2018;;4.0 out of 5 stars;;Great smoker for the money;;sporadic;;;I bought this to replace 2 Masterbuilt smokers, which failed due to burned out heating elements. On one, the element was not replaceable, and on the second, I bought a new element and replaced it myself., What a long hard effort! This element also burned out after 6 months or so. I will never buy another Masterbuilt smoker again! As for this Char-Broil unit, I am impressed with its heavy duty construction, and most of all, the heating element which is easily replaceable if it should fail. I smoked a turkey breast yesterday, and it came out wonderful! The heat control is analog, which takes a little getting used to when setting the temperature (the Masterbuilt digital control has an edge here). Also you can add more smoke chips without opening the door on the Masterbuilt, but you have to open the door on the Char-Broil to do so. The Char-Broil is also better insulated, and has 2 heavy duty door latches, compared with the Masterbuilt. Even if the price were the same I would definitely buy the Charbroil over the Masterbuilt, but the Charbroil is also much less expensive. Well packed and easy (only 16 screws) to put together. I called service center and the lady was very knowledgeable and easy to speak with. I've done ribs and a brisket, with great results. I used my own recipe dry rub and mesquite chips. I thought that it would take a long time to do but the brisket was done in about 6.5 hours and the ribs were done in about 7. Temperature was well maintained, but it is summer. We'll have to wait for winter to see if the cold weather affects it or not. I think part of the problem might be that I am trying to smoke two large racks of ribs. I smoked about 8 boneless chicken thighs and those seemed to cook much easier. I am also going to try and experiment by closing off one of the side vents - seems like they let out a lot heat. UPDATE: Char Broil customer was super nice and sent me a new themostat/burner assembly. I tried making ribs again and the temp was a little hotter.
