  • Good Features for Price
Style: Grill
This replaced an installed natural gas grill that I had been using for more than 10 years but decided I wanted a moveable propane grill which are more reasonably priced. I have been grilling with gas for more than 20 years; prior to that with charcoal in a 30 year old cast aluminum grill. Here is what is good about this grill: - A lot of features for the price. This grill was much cheaper than an in-ground replacement with similar features. - Stainless steel exterior should hold up well. My previous grills have been cast aluminum which are essentially indestructible and hold heat well (see note below). What wears out are the cast iron grates, metal heat distributors, and gas burners. - Large cooking area with four burners that can be adjusted to achieve zones of different heating (See note, below). My previous grills with two burners sometimes limited the amount of cooking that could be done at one time. - The large side tables are useful and almost essential for grilling. Noted below, they do not fold down. - The drip collector and removable grease pan work well and are easy to clean. This is the best arrangement I have seen. - The side burner is a helpful feature but I mostly use it as a table instead of a burner. - Wheels allow for easy placement of the grill anywhere on my deck and for moving it to the side for storage. It has locking front wheels but I usually do not lock them unless people are moving around near the grill. - Temperature gauge in the top is almost essential for some grilling. Very useful, but I have had to add this feature to my previous grills. - A lot of parts to assemble, but it doesn't take much skill and the instructions and labeling are very good. These were well packaged and it is unlikely that there will be any damage upon delivery even if the shipping box is mishandled. What could be better: - Although the description says the top warming rack swings away when the top is open, the rack is actually fixed in place as shown in the picture. This makes placing meat under the rack more difficult. My previous grill had a swing away upper rack when the top was open, and I miss this feature. I use the rack for cooking vegetables, otherwise I would remove it to get it out of the way of grilling. - Although the stainless steel exterior may be long lasting, the thin metal does not retain heat as well as my previous cast aluminum grills. The interior does not get as hot given the amount of BTUs and I probably burn more gas for my grilling. - Each burner is long and narrow with a thin heat distributing metal plate over it that is very close to the grate. This arrangement does not distribute heat as evenly as my past grills that had burners lower in the grill with a larger and wider heat distributor that was several inches from the grate. The closer burners and heat distributors produce somewhat uneven heating across the grate, and I find that I have to flip and move the meat often for even cooking. This arrangement does allow better control of heating zones across the grate, but these zones are narrow. - The side tables do not fold down. My previous grills had this feature and it is useful to minimize the size of the grill when not in use and stored out of the way. - The back is open. Ventilation is important for safety with propane gas, but this allows mice and other wildlife access to look for food even if you cover the grill. I will probably have to put a screen across the back to keep out critters since I store the grill on my deck. - The illuminated control knobs is a useless gimmick. This is just a lighted ring around the knob and in the dark the light does not reveal the actual position of the knob. It looks cool, but I haven't found the light useful and will probably not replace the four batteries when they die out. The separate, single battery for the ignition is the only necessary electronic for the grill. Note, the ignition is powered by a separate battery located on the other side of the grill. Additional information that may be helpful: - The regulator has a safety feature to limit gas flow if there is a leak. This is buried in the manual. If this becomes engaged, the grill will not heat up above 250F or so, and the regulator will need to be detached and reattached. This has not happened for me but may have for other users. I turn on all the burners to max prior to use to make sure the grill will get up to 450+ before I grill. - I attached a gauge between the regulator and the tank so I know when the tank is nearing empty: DOZYANT Propane Tank Gauge Level Indicator LP Gas Pressure Meter Color Coded Universal for Cylinder, https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B086HJC4J8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - I got this cover which fits very well, comes to about 1 inch above the deck, and looks like it will last a long time: Classic Accessories Veranda Water-Resistant 52 Inch BBQ Grill Cover, https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R4J59R4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ... show more

  • Nice, but lacking in power
Style: Grill
1) Packaging: arrived quickly and undamaged, it was handy to pay extra to have them actually bring it inside the doorway. Since I couldn't guarantee being at my parents house to help them with receiving it the service was very helpful. 2) Assembly: it's a bit of a bear. I'd like to think I'm pretty handy and have built plenty of things. There's ALOT of loose screws and bolts that need to be fitted and it took me about 3 hours with a quick beer break. Luckily if you're not very comfortable with assembly there's alot of videos online and the instructions are fairly clear and straightforward. You can do it by yourself but if you have an extra set of hands it's always quicker. Getting to some screws under the sides and cabinet are tricky but manageable. On a difficulty scale of 1-10 I'd put this at an 8. 3) Performance: the burners are a bit weaker than I was hoping for. There's 4 burners but the outside 2 really don't heat up as well as the center 2. I just used the middle 2 burners to cook some burgers and a steak and it worked great. The warm-up time to 350° took about 15 minutes which is pretty slow compared to my older Weber and Monument models. The propane hose is really thin for whatever reason and I feel like it's restricting full flow which is why I have such weak flame on the 1 and 4 burners. I'm waiting on a thicker replacement hose which will hopefully resolve this. 4) Grill: the grill overall is nice, it's got a nice sturdy hood with clean brushed metal. The cabinets are very handy and there's alot of room for grilling. The side burner has adjustable flame and really flames up which is nice compared to others that are basically on or off. RANT TIME: in the description it clearly states it comes with a ceramic coated grill for faster cooking and more even cooking etc etc.. It's a selling point on their listing!! But the grill is clearly just stainless steel and iron, there's absolutely no ceramic coating anywhere. I even emailed their customer service for clarification if their grills are supposed to be porcelain coated and they said YES. I'm in the process of trying to get the coated grill they have listed and I paid for but they're not making it easy. As of now tho I'm pretty perturbed with the entire situation and the run around customer service is just great "fun." 5) Verdict: I was stuck between this grill or getting the upgraded Monument 4 burner grill and now I really wish I bought the Monument. My older Monument was always great with the heat and even cooking, it was a beast until it got damaged in a storm. The similar Monument model is only $10 more with all the same build options, side burner, cabinet etc. But the Monument has higher 10k BTU burners and judging from the feedback and my own experience with the older model they cook much better than this Charbroil. ... show more

  • Arrived missing part number #58 Not happy but not going through the hassle of dealing with it.
Style: Grill
Arrived missing part #58. Every photo seemed to have a back cover....it does not..ugly backside. Feels flimsy side to side. Construction was "reasonable" Door fitment crooked but acceptable. Heated properly on all burners and starts easily. Lighted knobs work fine but ...!?!? necessary?

  • Love the stainless steel, but it's a little slow
Style: Grill
I agree with other reviews on this. It -was- non-trivial to assemble, but the instructions were very good after some serious study of them. Love the cast-iron cooking grates. Love the adjustment range on the side burner - you can really set it on "simmer". On previous grills I've owned, the side burner either ran "hot" or "hotter", but not this one - low and slow. The only complaint I have with this grill is that it's a little slow and not good for cold-weather grilling. What I mean by slow is that it doesn't really heat up very fast and if the temperature is below 40F and the wind is blowing, this baby just will not get hot. But "slow" in this case has a silver lining to the dark cloud - I don't tend to scorch things like I have on some of my other "blow-torch" grills. Oh, and I love the storage cabinet underneath the cooker - really versatile. The unit comes with four custom knobs that mount on the side of the outboard work surfaces. These are intended to provide outboard "hooks" for grill tools like spatulas, tongs, grill cleaners, etc. I wish they would have included more of these as I have used up all four with my copious grill tools and there is mounting space for more on the unit. ... show more
