Had always disliked how my lights looked against the siding of house. These things are a great fix as it cleans up the look by not seeing the mounting hardware between the gaps of the siding. The products came quickly and were easy to install. Just an JYI these are made for newer siding...our older siding has wider slats. These worked for our new front lights and I would but them again. Only negative is the price. Unfortunately we couldn't find this size & color any cheaper so we went with it. All in all a good purchase.

For some reason these things are not readily available in stores anywhere, its weird... not even HomeDepot or Menards. That being said, they were EXACTLY what i needed when installing exterior carriage lights on a newly constructed building already sided. Maybe because the building was built by the Amish, but the wood siding reveal was of pretty odd dimensions... so i needed an electrical box with a base that could be modified. I used by Milwaukee rotary too (a Man-Dremel) to notch out the base to match the reveals. The weight and feel of this product FAR exceeded my expectations. It appears to be extremely durable!

I would buy a different one if I could do it over. I put it on an 80 year old house with a metal small light box from the 60s. The design to the pre-set screw holes are a bit tight and not threaded. Also there should me more (holes) and they should be braced with metal to make them stronger. It be designed with modern light boxes in mind only. I had to drill a hole in it so a provided screw can hit a stud. The quality isn't that great for the price, it feels a bit thin and not high quality. It really feels like something worth $7. It does fit on my 6" (wide) siding, even though there is an upper gap. I now have a more sturdy, natural looking and straight set up and it will sit up there for a long time. It is UL branded, so that means it can be a primary box right? Perhaps I need to put a modern light box or take out the existing metal at some point.
