  • Pretty nice product
Overall it is great. The issues we had with it is that the airlock hole on the lid needed deburred. It was so sharp it cut my finger when I was cleaning it! We bought a cheap 8$ deburring tool from the hardware store for that. Also, the ball valve needed to be tightened extra tight to prevent leakage (always test for leaks before you start brewing!!). Other than that, this product is awesome. Stainless steel is so much better than glass or plastic imo. & the price was decent for the quality (although the steel was a bit thin)!! Would recommend (just beware of sharp lids & leaks!). Good luck brewing 🍻 cheers all y'all ~ ... show more

  • Great Looking Stainless Steel Fermenter At A Great Price
This is my initial impressions after just receiving this fermenter yesterday. I haven't used it yet and haven't even filled it with water to confirm it won't leak, but I'm fairly confident thus far. First thoughts are that it looks too small to be 7 gallons. But I'm going to assume it's the shape. It fits nicely inside my temperature control freezer, with room for a 5 gallon glass carboy as well, very nice!. The stainless looks good. Everything was smooth and polished. I took the ball valve apart and it looks solid. Comes with extra rubber gaskets for the port and the lid's hole for the airlock. I am thinking I'll drill out the top to allow for a regular drilled stopper. That will allow me to use my auto siphon for bigger brews that have lots of yeast and will likely settle above the port. All in all, I really like the look of this and can't wait to brew and fill it with its first batch. I'll be sure to update once I've done that and had a full fermentation completed and racked to secondary. *************************************************** UPDATE: 5/20/16 I've used this for my first batch - a Double IPA. I had no issues with the fermenter. Sealed well and after a week I racked to secondary with an Auto-Siphon to see if the port was buried in yeast/trub. Yep, it was completely covered, so the port wouldn't have worked on that batch - maybe a more simple brew with less surgar/hops. I kept the original bung for the airlock. Worked fine, but I'm still leaning toward drilling it out to use a standard drilled bung and to allow for my auto-siphon to fit without having to take off the lid. I've pre-ordered a 7 Gallon Chapman Brewing fermenter without the port - they are back ordered at this time - I'll use this as secondary for all but my most basic brews. It works well, but the port is just too low for most of my needs. Otherwise, a well made product that is pretty darn nice. I'd say 4 starts is fair due to the port being a little low and the gallon markings being a bit off. ... show more

  • Well-made, easy to clean, and relatively inexpensive stainless fermenter
I purchased this fermenter a little while ago. It's one of two stainless fermenters I have. The other is from SS Brewing Technologies, and is their Brewmaster Bucket. This product is roughly half the price of the SS Brewing Technologies fermenter. The fermenter is made of stainless steel with a silicone gasket under the lid, handles mounted securely to the sides, and latches to hold the lid down. A small hole in the center of the lid provides a gasketed hole into which a standard plastic airlock will fit. The valve included with the unit is heavy duty and would work well in many brewing systems. In my case, I didn't need it and it would be more of a hindrance than a help, so I swapped it out for a plastic valve purchased here on Amazon that allows me to bottle from the bucket or easily gravity transfer the contents to another fermenter (or bottling bucket). Being stainless steel, it's easy to clean and doesn't retain odors between batches. This helps make for better beer. The bucket-shaped design is good for most brewing applications, though for many a conical bottom would be better as it would more easily accumulate the yeast. The inside is marked with stamped volume markings that are large and easy to read. However, my testing with a one-gallon (good brand name) pitcher says that the markings read a little low. With five gallons in the fermenter, it shows about 5.4 on its markings. You should test this yourself if you purchase one, just so that you know whether to trust the markings or not - as you might use them to calculate carbonation sugar. I've used it for two batches now. I've had no problems with fermentation, cleanup, or leakage. It "just works" and delivers the basic features I needed from it at a reasonable price. ... show more

  • The last fermentor I'm going to buy.
PORTED VERSION First off, be aware: This item does not ship direct from Chapman. My first item was shipped hastily and the 2-peice ball lock in a McDonald's wrapper. I promptly returned it. After reaching out to Chapman I was told that they were not going to work with that vendor again. OK, now to the review. When the proper item was shipped it was packaged well. The bucket had no burrs on it from drilling. The inner markings for volume (in gallons) was a welcomed addition as well. The handles are study and make moving this in and out of my fermentation chamber easy. Packaging couldn't be easier now. I simply attach some tubing on my cam-locks and open the valve. The height of the port has been spot on as it leaves the trub behind as well. The design makes is very easy to take apart and clean. I was always afraid of applying too much pressure with my plastic buckets while cleaning. I didn't want to scratch the sides and make space for a bug to cause infection. When that happened...I had to toss the fermentor out. Now I can use a scouring pad without worrying about damage. I've had a few fellow homebrewers pick up this after me talking it up at meeting and they're happy as well. One went so far as to drill more holes in it for his purposes. This will be the last 7-gallon fermentor I will by. ... show more
