This jar is a perfect starter jar. I make two hundred grams of starter. That fills the bottom nicely, you might think... jeez this jar is far to big for a 200 gram starter. But, when the starter 'rises' it fills the jar nearly to the top! I use the red rubber cap. It pops off the edge of the jar perfectly to expel excess gas. The spatula fits the jar perfectly. Could you manage without this? Of course, my starter was in a canning jar before I got this. Worked well. But this is far easier to scrape down, far easier to load. I am very pleased with the KneadAce Pro. I kept a sourdough starter going for around 30 years. Family health issues required a lot of my time and I stopped baking. This year I wanted to start again and notice the KneadAce Pro at Amazon. My first thought was, I don't need this. I can do what I did before and use a bowl and cheesecloth. But, the product looked very interesting and I decided to give it a try. Wow, I am so glad I did. Having a product specifically designed for making a sourdough starter was so easy. I love having the temperature gauge, which I didn't have when I was making sourdough before. There is a spatula provided that is a perfect fit for the KneadAce Pro. The band with days listed on it is perfect and removes the need for magic markers. I was shocked when my starter doubled in size by the end of the second day. I never had that happen before. I thought it was a glitch, so I gave it another try and the same thing happened a second time. I still went through the week to build the starter, and that was so easy too. Previously, I used a mason jar for my starter. This has so many advantages over that! First, a wider mouth. Second, measurements on the side so you know if you have enough starter for a given recipe. Thirdly, thermometer on the outside so you can tell if it is too cold or warm in your house. Fourth, two lids. I use the fabric one when I’m regularly feeding it on the counter and a tight-fitting one when it is the refrigerator. Lastly, the marker so I can tell if it doubling or not. BONUS is the little spatula. It has a straight side, but then a curved side that really gets in the sides/corners. ... show more

The jar is ~600 grams in weight and holds a lot of volume! It's easy to clean, sturdy, and both the cloth and silicone covers seem to be good quality. The spatula included is a very nice touch, making it a very good value. My only issue is that the thermometer sticker seems to not work. I've tried all different temperatures of water in the range, but nothing. Overall, it's a very minor issue, but it's the only reason it's not 5 stars. ... show more

This larger KneadAce Pro Jar is perfect for adding my rye frige starter to, add water & a little more rye, then letting it overnight rise, then bake with next morning. It's sturdy, has quality/useful accessories, is easy to mix in, has room for this starter rise, & easy to clean with the straight jar neck design (no hip on jar like my old Mason jar). I bake 6 loaves at a time monthly & freeze most of it for later use. This Pro Jar certainly makes the task easier to prepare enough starter for baking & comes with everything needed. I purchased these starter jars a while ago at this point and I'm pretty dang impressed the temperature stickers have lasted this long. The jars are thick and large enough to make some larger loaves with the starter. On top of that, I managed to lose one of the temperature stickers before putting it on when I first got the jars.
