  • Heavy Duty Upgrade
This is a really nice, well-made seed spreader that is a significant step up from the handheld crank style we’ve used in the past. It’s pretty heavy-duty and large in size so it holds more than enough seeds to thoroughly cover an entire front or back lawn (within reason). It's nice and stable and feels like it’s built to last for many years to come. It spreads seeds effortlessly and thoroughly, which is exactly what you need when you're aiming for that lush, fully covered lawn. A few notes on setup: The item arrived almost entirely assembled, save for the handle and a few blades. Fair warning: Do not even bother with the paper instructions since they are poorly written and very difficult to follow. Instead, save yourself the headache and look up the assembly video online—it made the rest of the process a breeze. We’ve decided to focus on our curb appeal this year and seeding is a much more economical route than buying sod. This spreader arrived right on time and is sturdy enough to be a staple in our garage for yearly maintenance and filling in empty patches. Aside from the manual, it’s an excellent, high-quality tool with versatility making it an excellent value for the money. ... show more

  • Heavy duty spreader
Nice heavy duty large sized spreader. I got to try it out a few days ago as it had really warmed up this week and we’ve had had a nice morning spring rain. Really it’s almost overkill for my quarter acre lawn, but it made really quick work of spreading the weed and feed that I decided to apply the spring. Darn dandelions were getting out of control. As far as different functions, you can easily adjust the max width of the spread and the trigger handle can adjust the flow. Quite stbile, does feel like it is going to tip thanks to the large air filled tires. This is definitely a more expensive spreader than any that I’ve used in the past, but I expect that this will last for a long long time. ... show more

  • Large Capacity Spreader That Covers Ground Efficiently
The 80lb capacity saves time on larger lawns, and the spread pattern is consistent when properly calibrated. The wheels handle uneven terrain better than expected. Build quality feels durable, and the gate settings give good control over application rates. Provides great versatility in that you can use different forms of fertilizer, and you can even do snow melt if your heart desires. Weight is perfect, and installation was a breeze. ... show more

  • Probably the best spreader I've used.
Probably the best spreader I've used, with a few nit-picks based on the price. First, the large size hopper holds a lot of fertilizer or seed, so unless you're doing acres of spreading, this should work well. I have another spreader from a name brand that I've been using for a while, but it has plastic wheels and I get a lot of rolling resistance when its hopper is full. I've been wanting to get one with pneumatic tires for a while, but most options are ridiculously expensive or made for professional lawn services. Let me tell you, air filled tires vs plastic wheels makes a ton of difference! I was able to power through my spreading without much hassle. Most spreaders are going to have plastic hoppers, so durability should be on par with other options and should serve you well for years. Now for the nit-picks: - For the price, it should include a cover for the hopper - especially if you get sprinkles when applying fertilizer or seed. - The instructions were ok, if you could call them instructions. Luckily it comes 80% assembled, but there are spare parts that according to the instructions "may not be used for your model". The pictures showed parts that you won't use and leave out pictures of parts you will use. Overall, pretty intuitive but still a gripe. - My other spreader has the spreader gauge up on the handle (.5 - 5.5, etc) and the adjustments for this one are under the hopper and are adjusted by "clicks" on a metered scale. This is ok, but up top is way better. ... show more

  • Chapin lawns, brother that makes quick work of applying fertilizers and seeds with.
This Chapin lawn spreader can be used for household or commercial purposes. This lawn spreader has a lot of nice features and is overbuilt to last. It has large wide wheels suitable for rough terrain and soggy lawns. You can control the spread volume by adjusting the front lever.. the fertilizer or seeds release from the hopper by pulling on the metal handle. This lawn spreader is rated for 80 pounds which is more than enough capacity for most people’s uses. Most fertilizer bags are about 25 pounds to 50 pounds. Overall, very pleased with this Lauren’s brother making working in the yard quicker and more enjoyable. ... show more

  • Best spreader I’ve used
The media could not be loaded. I grew up on a farm and have used several spreaders, I must say this is the easiest to push I have ever used. The wheels make a big difference. Most spreaders have those cheap plastic wheels, not this one. These are actually air inflated rubber tires! I was surprised when I saw they have a valve steam! The spreader comes with 2 auger, one for seeds or loose material, a star shaped one for clumps, fertilizer usually has clumps that bounce around, but this spreader actually breaks the clump up. Even full this spreader is easier to push than any I’ve used. It’s well made, easy to set spread rate, even has a baffle if you need to guard against spreading into or onto an area as you pass. I’m am really impressed with this spreader. ... show more

  • great quality
The Chapin 89000A 80 lb TurfPro spreader is sturdy and easy to push, with good capacity for medium to large yards. It spreads fertilizer and seed fairly evenly once calibrated, though settings take some trial and error. Durable frame and pneumatic tires handle uneven lawns well.
