FUNCTIONALITY: easy installation, the combination of: layout of handles, large basin, 10inch wheels was an undeniable differentiation over std plastic wheel and small basin spreaders. Admittedly I’m going to need time to get used to location of settings adjustment. Easy Cleanout as well. PRICE: comparative to the current marketplace INITIAL QUALITY: IT SEEMS SOLID AND I WILL KNOW MORE AFTER A FULL SEASON OF USE INITIAL VALUE FOR MONEY: not fighting the spreader tipping over from uneven terrain, only having to refill half as many times as a 40lb, commercial quality, strength and functionality - PRODUCT LISTING OVERVIEW - ~Chapin Garden Spreader: Designed for all your residential lawn and garden seed, pest control and fertilizer spreader need, this 80 lb broadcast spreader is weather-resistant, has a green poly hopper and a Zinc-plated agitator to break up clumps from clogging the gate opening while spreading ~How to Use and Convenience: The Pull-Bar Lever allows you to change the gate opening based on your particulates. • This seeder is a big time saver This seeder is a big time saver
This seeder needs assembly so be prepared for it. The instructions aren’t much help…there are pictures but some screws can fit into different places. Most of it was easy to figure out, however. Once it was assembled and stood up, I was surprised how short it was. If you are a tall person you may have to stoop when using it. It’s pretty sturdy and the plastic will make it very durable and it should hold up well when it comes to wear and tear and the weather. Let’s put it this way; if you forget and leave it in the yard or garden and it’s exposed to the elements, you won’t have to worry about it. The wheels work good and have no problems rolling over mounds of dirt. The bucket is large and won’t need refilling often. As long as your dirt is worked up, you are ready to go spread your seeds. It’s perfect for fertilizer. It spreads easy and most importantly this spreader keeps the fertilizer off you. I recommend it for anyone who wants the job done fast and efficient and cleanly. ... show more

  • Not for tall people
Not for tall people. Purchased this to replace my RB-60 and was excited to see how well it compared. Assembly was slightly challenging because the instructions were not clear,.but being mechanically inclined, I was able to figure it out. Did have to tighten all the nuts and bolts because what was previously assembled before shipping, was just thrown together. Also the agitator came off when I was using it so I had to put it back on a little tighter than before. It threw a nice pattern but I did find it difficult to reduce the amount of fertilizer it was spreading. Seemed like it had to be heavy or none but no in between. Overall it was good and easy to push but I am 6-1 and the handle is made for short people. I'm already looking for options to extend the current handle about 6 inches. ... show more

  • Spreads 'Em!
I really like this spreader. It's hefty, well-made plastic. It's a decent size, so no hunching over, or awkward handling. It has a ton of throw settings, and rugged wheels, so you can rest assured that it will broadcast fairly evenly. And the hopper is pretty large. You can cover a massive area at top fill. I only need one fill for my small yard, so this is more than enough. I think it could be cheaper though. It's kind of pricey for a fully manual unit. Otherwise, a good get. ... show more

  • Heavy Duty Upgrade Heavy Duty Upgrade
This is a really nice, well-made seed spreader that is a significant step up from the handheld crank style we’ve used in the past. It’s pretty heavy-duty and large in size so it holds more than enough seeds to thoroughly cover an entire front or back lawn (within reason). It's nice and stable and feels like it’s built to last for many years to come. It spreads seeds effortlessly and thoroughly, which is exactly what you need when you're aiming for that lush, fully covered lawn. A few notes on setup: The item arrived almost entirely assembled, save for the handle and a few blades. Fair warning: Do not even bother with the paper instructions since they are poorly written and very difficult to follow. Instead, save yourself the headache and look up the assembly video online—it made the rest of the process a breeze. We’ve decided to focus on our curb appeal this year and seeding is a much more economical route than buying sod. This spreader arrived right on time and is sturdy enough to be a staple in our garage for yearly maintenance and filling in empty patches. Aside from the manual, it’s an excellent, high-quality tool with versatility making it an excellent value for the money. ... show more

  • Easy to assemble and use
I saw someone mention that they received theirs with a missing part but I think it was because they choose the refurbished option. The spreader comes pretty much assembled, you just need to attach the handle assembly and the agitator. All the screws are inside a single blister pack and the handle assembly is also attached to the spreader so if you get a new one I don't think you should worry about missing parts. The spreader is super simple to use, I've never used one before and figuring out how to use it was super easy. I was already planning on spreading some grass seeds so the spreader came in very handy. The seed bag and dirt i got from the store came with spreading instructions which tell you how much to open the dispenser and how much area it can cover. The spreader rolls easily and has large wheels to push over grass. Overall there's not much to using or assembling the spreader, it worked perfectly fine for me. ... show more

  • Probably the best spreader I've used. Probably the best spreader I've used.
Probably the best spreader I've used, with a few nit-picks based on the price. First, the large size hopper holds a lot of fertilizer or seed, so unless you're doing acres of spreading, this should work well. I have another spreader from a name brand that I've been using for a while, but it has plastic wheels and I get a lot of rolling resistance when its hopper is full. I've been wanting to get one with pneumatic tires for a while, but most options are ridiculously expensive or made for professional lawn services. Let me tell you, air filled tires vs plastic wheels makes a ton of difference! I was able to power through my spreading without much hassle. Most spreaders are going to have plastic hoppers, so durability should be on par with other options and should serve you well for years. Now for the nit-picks: - For the price, it should include a cover for the hopper - especially if you get sprinkles when applying fertilizer or seed. - The instructions were ok, if you could call them instructions. Luckily it comes 80% assembled, but there are spare parts that according to the instructions "may not be used for your model". The pictures showed parts that you won't use and leave out pictures of parts you will use. Overall, pretty intuitive but still a gripe. - My other spreader has the spreader gauge up on the handle (.5 - 5.5, etc) and the adjustments for this one are under the hopper and are adjusted by "clicks" on a metered scale. This is ok, but up top is way better. ... show more
