  • Read before buying!
The pump on my pool failed and so I ordered this replacement before I had closely inspected the whole of the pump. The motor is perfect but when I came to install it I found out that I had to replace not only the motor, but also the seals. Then I found the mounting seal plate was cracked so that needed to be replaced too. Then when I came to fit the seal into the impeller that needed to be replaced as well. In short everything except the diffuser needed to be replaced. I would have done better to buy a "power end" unit which includes all of the parts needed and ready assembled. It would have saved a lot of my time and not cost any more. It would have also been quicker than waiting for all of the parts to arrive only to have to order something else. Having said that there are plenty of good videos on YouTube showing how to replace the motor and other parts so there is no need to spend double on getting a pool company to do it. If you don't already have one, I suggest also buying a motor cover (I didn't previously have one) to reduce the corrosion if your pool pump is outdoors. ... show more

  • Gaskets not included
The motor seems to work fine. It was difficult to install and did not come with gaskets. Only time will tell how dependable it is.

  • Despite Mr. Gruber's reviews, works great so far.
Motor has only been in service a few days, but it mounted nicely on my Challenger pool pump. However, the shaft on this motor is not threaded to accept the stainless locking bolt used on the factory motor. However, this shouldn't matter, as the impeller - as in all pumps - threads in reverse, so the impeller is tightened as the motor operates. Also, a very minor issue, the motor housing is approx 3/4" smaller in diameter than the factory original. It is best practice to have the motor mounted level, so I compensated the difference with some "field fabricated" high density foam, which is strong enough to resist collapse from the motor's weight. I also like that this came wired at 230V from the factory, didn't have to mess with any wiring changes, easy-peesy. I bought the 4-year warranty, BTW, something I normally never do. ... show more

  • Failed after 8 months 👎
Very dissatisfied with this Century motor and the fact that I have to buy a new one and install it after only 8 months. This time I’m spending double the price and going with the Pentair motor designed for the WhisperFlo WF-26. In hindsight, I should’ve had this motor under a pool pump cover. It was in direct Florida sunlight all day and with it being black, this thing got scorching hot. Judging by other reviews, the plastic inside most likely melted. In the trash it goes. ... show more

Works good my third pool pump motor in twenty years

  • Motor works great but check out the shaft...
My original motor had a tapped hole at the end of the drive shaft (the shaft you see in the picture) where an "impeller retaining screw" screws on to secure the impeller to the shaft. This replacement motor did not. I did my best to match pumps specs but I may have missed something. So if you are using this motor in conjunction with a pool pump, Pentair specially, take a look at the impeller to see if you need a drive shaft with a threaded hole at the end. Although I must say the pump/motor is working flawlessly without the screw. The threads on the impeller alone seems to be enough to secure it to the shaft and the retaining screw may have been proven unnecessary. But just thought I'd put it out there. ... show more

  • Good motor, quiet, direct replacement on my Stay Rite pump.
Seems like a good motot, but was not actually an AO Smith. Everything was an exact fit except bolts which hold the motor to the pump housing. Those had to be replaced with new ones which are a quarter inch longer. Runs quietly and functions just as the old one did, but does seem to run a bit hotter than the one it replaced. Anticipate somewhat shorter service life based on the extra heat. Old one ran daily for 8 years. Minor issue: The motor electrical terminal connections are very close to the cable entry hole, and it took significant effort to get them properly connected. ... show more
