So when I opened this I was like…. How? There’s no way this will work. But I popped it on the door handle and IT ACTUALLY WORKS. We have a new puppy and an old resident cat, we wanted the cat to be able to access the mud room where his litter boxes are but wanted to keep the puppy out. Did not want to put a hole in the door. This has been the perfect solution. Not sure how well it’ll work when the puppy gets bigger and stronger and smarter since she’d only need to nudge it the right way for it to come off. First set didn't last but ordered replacement. I love this as it allows my cat to go in and out and keeps my sister's dog from eating all my cat's food. Before these, I used shoes to keep the door open enough for the cat and one behind the door to keep it from being pushed in. Boy was it a piano in the a@@ for us to get in and out. Now these has been a game changer! So easy to get and out and just enough room for the cat and no dumb dog. Unfortunately, took only once for it to break thanks to dog. The screw in part is too short to wedge enough in door and the part the you screw in to pulls out of the plastic under any pressure. I am using them flipped the opposite way as it seems how the holes were filled with rivet part can pull out the other way easier. I plan to use E6000 or something similar to adhere them better in place so they can't pull out. I guess if they do, I'll either but a new set or make my own at that point. Would gladly pay more for a better quality product similar to this one. ... show more

I've purchased something like this in the past that adheres to the door frame and door, and then a fabric strap connects the two. That design has always fallen off for me, especially when my dog forcefully pushes at the door. This design requires no adhering and just simply slips over the knob and connects into the door latch hole. To date, my dog has not been able to push through it. ... show more

I currently have this on the widest setting, and it's perfect for all the cats to come and go while keeping the dogs out. It's quite sturdy. However, one cat is a slightly larger breed, she's a tiny bit chunky, and the widest option is JUST big enough for her to run in and out. If you have a large cat breed/a very chunky cat, this may not open wide enough for them. ... show more

I would give this 5 stars however I just wish it was a little stronger! It does what it’s supposed to. My cats can come and go as they please and my dog can’t go through. However if my dogs hits it hard enough, it will open the door. Overall a great product and works how it’s supposed to!!

These work for me when I have the stopper set on the last hole. Any smaller and not even my tiny cat would go through. They do keep my dog out, but if you had a very determined or very destructive dog I don't think they would keep them at bay. I rent an apartment though so I like them better than the door buddy ones that you have to stick onto the door frame with non-removable adhesive. ... show more

I've been searching for months for a solution for my situation, and I finally found one that works! I have two cats and a while back my partner's cat moved in with us. Unfortunately their cat is an old lady who just wants to be left alone and my two youngsters want so badly to play with her. So they absolutely do not leave her alone. I live in a tiny house and the only practical room with a door on it to keep her in for her to have some personal space is my bedroom, but my bedroom doesn't get any AC or heat when the door is closed. I've been trying for a long time to find a reliable way to prop the door open just an inch or two to get some airflow in the bedroom for her without letting the other cats in. Most of these door latch products are designed to let cats through but not dogs, so none of them were working for my purposes since the cats could still get through. This is the only one I've been able to find that is adjustable down to the size I need it to be (see pictures for demonstrations from my most cooperative cat). I used to have to set a dumbbell behind the door and stuff a t-shirt in front of it to keep it from closing. But this is soooo much better. It's amazing how easy it is to use from either side of the door and how sturdy it is despite requiring no installation! I love that I didn't have to drill any holes into my wall or the door or use any strong adhesives that might rip paint off! You seriously just hang it on the doorknob and then lift the other end up to stick in door latch and the door is going nowhere - maybe a centimeter or two of wiggle range, but the door doesn't open up or close shut and the strap doesn't fall out of the latch hole even with some door jostling from my kitties. And since it came with two of them, I use the other one on my bathroom door for essentially the same purpose - keep the cats out but let the air through. My bathroom doesn't get the best ventilation, so I've started using this to prop the door open a little while I shower. It keeps the kitties out, maintains my privacy, and helps keep the bathroom from steaming up! Amazing! It's also great for kicking the cats out of my bedroom at night if they're keeping me from getting any sleep while still getting airflow from my AC/heat unit in the next room over. We bought these to keep the dog out of the master bedroom and the laundry room, where the cat's litter box is. They work really well, allowing the cat to come and go, but keeping the dog out. The latch slips over the door knob on one end, and a headed metal bolt fits into the recess in the striker plate. Unfortunately, our robot vacuum will bump it and cause it to unlatch as it makes it's pass around the perimeter of the room.
