I use this for sourdough. Big round boule. This pan holds the shape and keeps the steam in. I’ve used Dutch ovens before—this one’s better for bread. Just feels right. Things I like: Heavy, solid, holds heat Fits a 3 lb loaf easy Lid keeps the steam in for a good rise Bread doesn’t burn when I follow the preheat instructions Easy to lift with handles on both sides Here’s the recipe I use: 750g King Arthur bread flour 525g water 300g sourdough starter (bubbly and ready) 15g sea salt (add after autolyse) 15g olive oil (optional) I mix flour, water, starter. Let it sit for 45 mins. Then I add the salt and oil, knead a few minutes, do stretch and folds every 30 mins for 2 hours. Let it rise until doubled. Cold proof overnight in the fridge. Bake the next day. Baking method: Preheat the baker at 500°F for 60 minutes Bake at 450°F for 40 mins with the lid on Then 20-25 mins uncovered Check temp (205-210°F inside) Let it cool 1-2 hours before slicing Bread comes out with a good crust and solid crumb. Big rise. I score it with a design before baking. Looks nice. My wife approves. Would buy this again. No question.

I freaking LOVE everything about this kit. I've been experimenting with sourdough for the last few months, and decided to splurge on a cast iron and tools to up my bread game. This set did not disappoint! The recipe book included was a huge bonus...there is a cinnamon raisin bread recipe that I substituted chocolate chips for the raisins, and now I make it every week it is SO freaking GOOD. Like other cast iron products, you need to clean it properly - no washing it in the sink with soap, or putting it in the dishwasher. I've used it for a few months now, and as long as you take care of it properly, it is holding up just fine with no rust or other issues. All in all, a great set for beginners, or for people who just want to expand their bread making arsenal.

This is a quality set at a reasonable price, there's no way around that! There is no bread sling despite many mentions of it on the box, in the booklet and in this item description. Small quibble that the recipe book does not have weights as well as volume measurements like it really should.

Absolutely obsessed with this! I just started learning out to make sourdough bread, this cast iron sourdough kit is phenomenal. Definitely worth the price (which is a good number), has everything you need to start! I’ve already made 3 loaves in it and none have stuck so far. The dough sling, the blade to score the dough and the bread whisk are my favorite items in the kit. I could t be happier. My items ever fail I’d reorder this kit.

This Dutch oven baking set is absolutely a must have! The size and durability of it is incredible. All the utensils it comes with are super easy to use and clean. I also love how it comes with a little cook book. I use this Dutch oven for most of my bread cooking needs. I even use the other tools it comes with when we do pizza night too. I also love that you can use the lid and the pot for other things since it is cast iron. Overall I would recommend this to all my friends and family.

This is a great startup kit—everything you need to make fantastic sourdough with a thick, chewy crust. The Dutch oven is well-made, dense, and heavy, made of cast iron, and nothing sticks. It's easy to clean when the baking is done because of the nonstick. Just wipe it with a clean, dry towel. My bread tastes incredible. Bake the sourdough covered for the first 20 minutes, then remove the cover and continue baking for an additional 30 to 40 minutes.
