The printer is easy to set up and use. The print quality is excellent, and it can quickly print hundreds of cards. The only issue we ran into was after printing a few thousand cards the printer required a cleaning and would not print until cleaned. There may be some kind of workaround, but we got a cleaning kit and cleaned the printer. After the cleaning the printer worked perfectly. Not a huge issue, but it was unexpected. The printer currently only supports Windows or older version of macOS. There are drivers and instructions to get it to work on an updated Mac, but it requires editing the system from Recovery Mode and is not a feasible solution in our environment. ... show more

    • Great Quality Printer
This is the 2nd time we have purchased this printer to make new security badges at our office and it works wonderfully! Prints really great images and have very little issues with the quality. Occasionally there will be a smudge or discoloration, but we typically find that if the card itself was not cleaned properly. The only other issue we have run into is being able to keep the printer connected to the computer (via wifi). We will find that we have to uninstall and then reinstall the printer software in order to make it work with the card printing software every so often. Not sure if this is a printer issue, or a software issue, but a bit of an inconvenience either way. Only reason it does not have 5 stars is because of the occasional smudge/discoloration and connectivity issues. ... show more

Great printer. Easy to maintain, fast and reliable. I was looking for a printer to get people through the lines quickly, this Fargo did the job. Card Imaging has been amazing.

    • Poor Business strategy
So this product is a product from HID Global. I purchased this very expensive card printer to be able to print ID cards for our building. Im also a Mac user. We are living in a time where Windows and Mac users are everywhere. And Macs are being used in the business area and not just for Graphics... I attempted to install the software on my Mac and it installed just fine. The printing software supports Macintosh. But when I went to install the Printer... Thats where I ran into problems. HID stopped supporting Mac OS after 2015. So I emailed them and ask about drivers and how to install them. Their reply to me was "There is no MAC OS 10.15 Catalina driver available for this printer model and there are no future plans to develop one for it. Options are to roll back to a previous MAC OS or move to a windows platform." How can you not develop for a MAJOR operating system? Also on top of that to tell your customer to go to Windows? Im not going to get into my thoughts on if Macs are better than PCs but a Mac is my primary computer. You don't tell someone to go get a new computer after spending this much on a card printer. HID is just DUMB for saying what they did. I will not support them by buying their products if I don't have to. ... show more

    • Get another brand... HID has awful service and the printer will not last.
THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT THE PRODUCT VENDOR AND NOT THE SELLER ON AMAZON HID Global is an awful company that is a pain to deal with... We own TWO of these printers, BOTH have had issues within the same month (one being older than the other)... One lasted all of 3 years and 2 weeks outside the Warranty date and the printhead had an issue. To replace this cost us nearly $600... HID Quoted me $900... No exception made for the two week frame or the fact we just bought one recently. Sure. I get that. But that cost for a printhead is absurd. The main issue is the new printer had a problem soon after eating the ribbons and causing all types of issues. They gave two options. Sit on chat or phone trying to fix it by changes to the firmware having to repair the torn ribbon each time it fails. I declined because I already tried this. We are then told theyll send us a box. 2 days later I'm told, no box will be sent, we must probide the box, packing and shipping AND pay for the return shipping after / if they fix it... I've NEVER seen or heard of this from any company much less one that charges thousands for a printer... Dealing with them back and forth is just a frustrating endeavor and waste of time and a lot of money. Save time and headaches by going with another brand... I could add more but there is no point. It does print well most time but has its issues as seen above... A lot of odd issues with backs of cards and quality or printing badge barcodes... odd issues with deep glossy blacks or specific colors cause strange glitches. Software for it is an entire different headache as is the printing defaults needing to be set in four areas.... ... show more

    • Great Value on a solid card printer
I purchased this to replace an existing dual card printer that I had in use for about 10 years. I was concerned that the setup would be challenging since I had hoped to use it with our existing Fargo ID software...could not have been any easier. The output is much better than the old machine and allows more options in terms of printing detailed bar codes etc. Would highly recommend. ... show more
