My experience before getting this product: I've been worrying about my mother (87yo), especially when I'm away at work. She has already had several falls on her way to the bathroom at night, and I have noticed how she struggles to get up off the bed, and then getting back in. She is still pretty independent, but she definitely needs help standing up. I have asked on several occasions if she would like a bed side rail to assist her, but she keeps telling me she doesn't need one. Well, I finally saw this one on the Vine catalog, and decided there was no better time to get one. My experience after getting the product: It was pretty easy to put together based on the instruction card. The only thing I had a hard time figuring out was what to do with the included strap. I had to look up a video online from a nurse putting together a product similar to this one. Spoiler Alert: the Strap secures the bed cane to the frame of the bed so it doesn't slip from under the mattress. After just one night, the cane has made a really big difference. My mother no longer has to reach under the bed to reach her cane, nor does she have to scoop over to grab the arm of the couch to help her up, nor does she have to hang off the bathroom door (next to her bed, almost pulling it out of the hinges). These methods from the past exhausted her and took her strength before getting up. Now, she gets up real easy from bed, and it also helps her turn in bed to adjust her position. I asked her how she likes it, and she said it has been very helpful. The only very minor thing I wish was different: A choice in direction for hanging the pouch. The bag is made so the netting of the pouch faces the outside. In our circumstance, it would be nice if it would face the inside of the bed so she can see what she is fishing for. (She keeps tissue, phone, and an inhaler with her, and she is often in bed during the day to stay warm. So having the pocket reverse would be helpful.) This product is a real game changer. She gets up like nothing, and keeps her strength to move around her apartment. (And she no longer stuffs a bunch of tissue under her pillow.) I no longer have to worry as much about her when I'm away. Thank you!

NOTE: This review was written for what looks like about the same product, but it was listed as less than half the price of the non-bag version and included a bag. You can see the difference from what is listed in the photo I'm attaching to this review. I suggest you keep that in mind when shopping for something like this. The rail that we got was easy to assemble, and took me just a few minutes to put together. Once complete, it was easy to lift the edge of the mattress and place where we wanted it. It's been stable and comfortable, not interfering with sleep, and cannot be felt through our mattress. It gives a stable, easy spot to grip to aid someone with injuries or limited mobility in and out of bed. Seems great to me! That said, it is definitely strange to me that the price has more than doubled and that there are now two different versions. This works well for our needs as it is, but it does seem like we got something different than they are selling now.

First off, I'm not elderly, but some mornings I feel like it. I'm overweight, middle-aged, and sleep with a toddler. I often sleep in pretzel formation and can barely move when I wake up. This really helps me get into an sitting position on those mornings! It also kinda helps catch me if I'm about to fall out of the bed. Easy to assemble, and I got it under the mattress okay. It only slips out some when a pillow gets jammed down in between the mattress and the rail during the night. Now, judging from the product pictures being shown as I'm writing this review, the seller has either upgraded or changed this product to a different safety bar, because the one I got does not have the horizontal bar with the light on it. I bet that would be a better setup than what they had when I ordered. Since mine doesn't have that bar, the mesh pocket just has these little slide-in clips to hold it up, and they just don't stay clipped on. The pocket is always slipping off on the top connections (bottom are velcro straps that go around the bar and stay fine. So the pocket is not terribly useful. Overall, it mostly does the job with only some minor inconveniences.

So this comes with multiple tubes that fit into one another and there is a button that should snap into the hole on the tube that it's being attached to so it locks in securely. The thing is, when I put it together locking the buttons into place where the holes have been placed, the pieces do not go together in the right direction. So I just put the tubes together the way they need to be so they are functional but I didn't lock them together. I then attached the pocket to the device as it is supposed to attach, which I think helps reinforce everything. I then put this on the bed as directed. I had my dad use it and he said that it made it much easier to get up out of bed with his back issues. So in the end, mission accomplished.

I got this for my elderly father. He said it is sturdy and is appreciated to prevent falling out of bed. It’s also helpful for getting in and out of bed because it provides something stable to hold on to. My parents are in the process of moving/downsizing, and my dad said they would be taking this with them, so I was pleased to hear that it worked well enough for it to make the cut. My mother has a different bed rail on her side of the bed, and it’s much longer, which makes it difficult to get in and out of bed. This one seems like the perfect size because it provides enough coverage to prevent falling out of the bed, but it doesn’t make it difficult to get in and out of bed like the longer style. The longer style forces my mom to exit/enter the bed from the foot of the bed instead of the side of the bed, and is very inconvenient for getting up in the middle of the night to use the restroom. This one seems like the perfect blend of safety and convenience.
