  • Works Pretty Good
Size: 16'' X 12'' X 3/8'', 6 Pcs Color: Matte Black
I wouldn't rely on this to be your main source of sound isolation. If you are needing a small amount of extra diffusion or have a small area these would work well.

  • Size matters, right?
Size: 16'' X 12'' X 3/8'', 6 Pcs Color: Matte Black
The media could not be loaded. It seems that the description on the size - stating a cutting tolerance of 2% - has been added since I made my purchase (or I’m blind and didn’t see it), but basically what that translates into is that these are not exactly 16” x 12” x 3/8”. The thickness is close enough, but the length and width are off by about 1/4” (see my short video clip). That said, I was a bit disappointed because I needed to sizing to be correct as I planned on mounting some foam absorbers on top of them to create an extension of sorts to my studio room clouds. The foam absorbers were 12”x12”. Lucky for me the foam panels were super stinky, so I decided to give them a bath and throw them into the dryer for a few rounds - this ultimately made them shrink down tad, down to 11.75” x 11.75”. This ended up working out in my favor as now I would only need to make one cut on each of the BXI pads in order for everything to align properly. I know what you’re thinking - “why didn’t this guy just buy the 12”x12” pads to begin with?!” … Honestly, I don’t know. This was one of those late night amazon purchases, with a “buy it in 35 seconds so you can have it by Friday” kinda things. I had a few cocktails in me, so I just went with it without thinking.

In any case, the panels are sturdy and dense. I wish they offered a thicker option (like double thickness, not their other panels which are 0.1” thicker), as I would have gladly purchased a set of those. Instead, what I did for my situation was cut/glue a stack of two BXI panels and topped it with one of those generic foam sound absorbers. Cutting was fairly easy. I tried both a box cutter and an electric knife, and I can’t say one method was more efficient than the other. They both took a bit of time and patience in order to get the cuts straight and (relatively) clean. They did the job, however, and nobody will see the imperfections where I’ve placed them, which is on the ceiling. To glue the panels together (both BXI to BXI and BXI to foam), I used 3M Super 77 adhesive spray. I mounted them to the ceiling using 6 square cut Gorilla brand mounting tape.

How well do they work? Well, they do the job at the reflection point at which I’ve placed them. I need them to absorb some of the sound bouncing off my mixing desk, and they do just that. They probably don’t work as well as my 3” thick clouds that I have adjacent to the BXI panels, but they do help with overall absorption for the room. While I haven’t taken any measurements to see the real effect they have, they work well enough for now. How well will they work for you? Honestly that really depends on what you’re using them for, where you place them, and what you expect out of them. In my opinion, these are great for light duty use. They work better if you stack them. So, in a nutshell, I recommend them for light to medium duty use. If you need serious sound absorption for a music room or home theater, buy or make professional grade panels. For the price, they are worth it. If BXI were to make thicker panels, I’d definitely consider buying more to fill in some of the gaps in my room.

  • Really good option
Size: 16'' X 12'' X 3/8'', 6 Pcs Color: Shallow Camel
I researched product and possible panel layout before installing the panels on the wall. I decided to buy these panels because the reviews were good and some mentioned sound deadening and blocking and of course they dit my budget. Unfortunately i moved from one noisy apartment to another. Walls are like paper in a NY apt. There is no such thing as quiet in NY apartments. These sound absorbing tiles will quiet your room from noise inside and coming from next door but they will not completely block all sound however, i am very happy with the outcome. Not only is my space quieter but the panels added texture and asthetic to the wall. I suggest that you use an online free tile calculator to figure out how many you need to order. There are also tile layout patterns you may want to use to add a little extra detail to the wall. I used the subway pattern and a 30% tile staggering. It Looks great! The tiles i purchased were the camel color 16x12, 6 pack. The tiles look more grey in photo but in prtson thry are a light camel color. As others have mentioned the tiles arent exactly 16x12 just a little less. The wall i was installing the tiles on is not even and my skill is novice so there were some gaps but the finished product looks great. I used scotch double sided tape in four corners and the center and so far its sticking great. Certain tiles i used more tape ex. if the wall was curved or i thiught the tile wouldnt hold overtime do to location of the tile. ... show more

  • Save your $$; skip any (cheap) panels like this.
Size: 16'' X 12'' X 3/8'', 6 Pcs Color: Shallow Camel
Good noise reduce is either mid-high $100s or professionally done. The only plus this has over the Dekiru is that this is shaped rationally/appropriately. Both barely do anything. This, BXI and others in this relative price range barely do anything. I live in a neat condo that was built early 2010s. Walls and floors are garbage at blocking noise. A roommate and I got the landlord to agree to reimburse on covering both our sides 6ft by 8 ft so we at least we would be less audible to each other. I got this one and he got Dekiru They...do alright AT THREE LAYERS thick. Single is useless. Double is useless. 4 layers might be better but at that point you're really invoking the sunk cost fallacy. The labor alone to put up THREE LAYERS is already god awful. If your walls are already decent, 2 layers might be just what you need and you may have a 4 or even possibly 5 out 5 experience in terms of noise levels but be prepared for labor. ADHESIVE SPRAY is better IMO since you can just coat as much surface as you want instead of cutting then removing the film). The only reason I don't give 1 star is because someone else might have better luck at 2 layers since their walls are better. I seriously doubt a single layer does anything noticeable. ... show more
