  • Great Cast Iron Grill Pan
Color: Square, Black Size: 13''
I read through the reviews before making this purchase and, as a life long cast iron cookware user, could tell right away that the negative reviews were left by people who did not know how to take care of or cook on cast iron. I am very happy with this one and love the larger size of it. The first thing I did upon receiving my new grill pan was to wash it in very hot water (don't use soap on cast iron!) and season it again. You should always season cast iron before using it - even if it is advertised as being pre-seasoned. The better seasoned cast iron is, the better it will be to cook on. Just rub a bit of oil into it with a cloth, both inside and out, wipe off any excess oil so it doesn't become gummy, and throw it in a 300ºF oven and forget about it for a few hours. Do this after each use for the first few times you use it to get it really well seasoned, then you won't have to anymore. Also, always make sure your pan is good and hot before putting food in it when cooking with cast iron. The very first thing I made in this pan was chicken breasts in a chimichurri marinade. The chicken breasts were covered in marinade when I put them in my hot grill pan and when I went to turn them with tongs, they were not sticking at all. Wash it with very hot water and a very soft brush after it cools. No big deal. You don't want to scrape the seasoning off. If you should have something badly stuck, just put some water in the pan and bring it to a boil on the stove while scraping with a rubber spatula or something else flexible - just like deglazing a pan for making gravy or a sauce. Easy peasy. I couldn't believe that one review I read on a cast iron pan (can't remember if it was this specific one or another I looked at before choosing this one) the buyer said that everything stuck, the pan rusted after washing it (don't use soap!) and they threw it away. LOL. That pan would have lasted for generations if they knew how to cook in and take care of it properly. ... show more

  • Slightly different dimensions, otherwise as advertised
The inside from bottom edge to edge is 15" with the top of the flared out sides coming to 16". Not a big deal, but worth knowing. It also says it comes pre-seasoned, this was not the case for me but also not a big deal, I like to re-season any cast iron I get regardless. A thin layer of vegetable oil over the whole surface into a 350 degree oven for a couple hours a couple times and its good to go. I feel as though a lot of the negative reviews are from people that don't understand how to properly care for cast iron. This is a very heavy duty pan and works great for frying/roasting large quantities ( I roasted a whole carved turkey in this thing). Taken care of this will last decades. The only slightly bothersome thing is finding a place to store it, its HUGE and quite heavy so storage might be a problem but if your looking to buy something like this that shouldn't dissuade you. Would give 5 stars but the unclear measurements and lack of pre-seasoning (which it advertised) knocks it down to a 4. Overall still very happy with this and plan on using a very long time. ... show more

  • Inside vs. Outside Measurements
Color: Square, Black Size: 13''
Nice grill pan but it did not fit my space because with the handles and pour spout the outside measurements are over 13". Please add the outside measurements to the description.

  • Nice handled skillet
Color: Round, Black Size: 16'' ,Deep 2''
I needed a cast iron pan with higher sides than my existing Griswold and Wagner griddles for making pan and deep dish pizzas. This looked like it will fit the bill. I wanted to try the 16" size which measures 13.250" across the bottom. I might purchase a 20" skillet later as I still need a larger base diameter for pizzas. Bottom is slightly rough comparded to the older pans. I will try the original finish first. If that is problematic, i will polish out the bottom and reseason. Update: well after using this pan right out of box I'm impressed with the non stick properties of this pan so far and the ability of this pan to make a great pan pizza crust. I did reseason the pan before the first use, and because I use this pan only for making deep dish pizza so I always oil the pan before throwing the crust in. I like the handles due to the size and weight of this pan removing it from the oven or turning is alot easier than a regular skillet. Also a ATK hack I use sometimes if the topping are finished before the crust, is removing the pan from the oven and browning the crust using the stove top burner. ... show more

  • Product description is somewhat misleading
Color: Square, Black Size: 10''
I don't know why the seller claims in the description that it is "pre-seasoned" and "ready-to-use." It is not. The instructions that come with the item say you have to pre-season it yourself before you use it. The instructions tell you to clean the pan with warm soapy water, dry it, season it with veg oil or butter, etc. all over it including the outside of the pan. Then the instructions say to bake it pan at 350 degrees in an oven for an hour. I haven't tried using it yet to actually cook anything, but hope it is as good as claimed. ... show more
